The Darkest Hour - Season 2 - Episode 3

THE NEXT DAY
Sandra met David from behind in a lecture hall after a lecture. Students troop out while some sat back just as David was seating. He noticed Sandra’s hands engulfed his shoulder but concentrated on a book before him.
“I know you won’t notice me” Sandra turned around and sat beside him. “Maybe it’s because I’m not Udoka” she added with a frowned face.
“Don’t bring her into this” David spoke up as he kept writing on the book.
“Why do you reject me? Why do you hate me so much even when i have given up everything just to please you. Am i not beautiful enough? What must i do to win your heart? I have tripped so low
regarding my pride as a woman to let you know how much i love you which is African traditionally improper, yet, you can’t show me an atom of love. Well, i see, it’s because Udoka is rich, right?”
David stopped writing, he looked at Sandra without knowing the
appropriate words to answer all her questions. “I don’t reject you, i don’t hate you, you are beautiful. Udoka’s wealth has nothing to do with my love for her”
“But i can’t bear to see both of you together” Sandra placed a hand on his shoulder. After there was no response, she left the hall angrily..

The issue became hazardous after Sandra left David angrily. What next could she do? She had been quite importunate trying so hard to eliminate the life of abrasiveness to adapt edification but it seemed not to be working. Therefore, she planned to be
fully abrasive to both Udoka and David.
Sandra’s family had been through
hardships with only surviving father who is managing to pay her fees. That led her to a life called ‘Runs’ she never thought of which she had left for the past few months because of David. But
the situation at hand wasn’t favouring her rather made the issue worse.
Nevertheless, as Sandra hurried out of the lecture hall angrily, she bumped on the four girls; Adaku, Faith and the twins beside their car. All were looking classic chatting and laughing.
“Excuse me” Sandra interrupted the conversation. They all stared at her silently then Adaku frowned disdainfully. There was a gutter which separated them from her.
“Who is Udoka among you?” Sandra demanded.
“I am” Udoka replied.
“I want to have a word with you”
“Alright, go on”
“No, privately”
Udoka glanced at her sister and her friends, she wanted to cross the gutter but Adaku dragged her back forcefully.
“To where do you think you are going?”
“She wants to talk to me privately” Udoka replied.
“She should say whatever she wants to say here. You are not going anywhere” Adaku persisted.
“Hey, what’s your problem?!” Sandra interfered glaring at her.
“You are my problem!” Adaku retaliated.
“Hey, girls!” Faith shouted. “It’s no big deal, let Udoka see her privately”
“Please, allow her to see her” Monica added.
Udoka gently crossed the gutter while Sandra and Adaku disdained each other. Udoka followed her to a private place as the girls watched in anticipation of their
conversation.
“I will go straight to the point” Sandra began looking at Udoka. “I have been here before you, David have been mine before you came into the picture. He is all i care for in this school. So, the earlier you let him be the better for both of us. You’ve succeeded in charming him with your..”
“I didn’t charm anybody!” Udoka
interrupted boldly.
“Shut up and listen to me! You don’t know who you are dealing with. I know this school better than you. So better back off or you dance the tone of a drum without knowing the drummer. This is a strict warning” Sandra walked out angrily. Her words made Udoka weak to the extent she stared at her without having the strength to go back to her friends. But she found herself heading back to them sluggishly.
“What did that witch say?” Adaku rushed her but Udoka kept quiet.
“Udoka, what’s it?” Monica and Faith asked simultaneously, yet, there was no reply.
Udoka handed the car key to Monica and said, “Bring the car home when you are through.”
All watched her enter a tricycle that was heading to the school gate.

5:00pm

Udoka la!d on the bed all alone sadly. She wore a bumshort and a bra. The upper part of her breast made her appearance more groovy. As her eyes were closed,
her phone rang. She opened it, glanced at the caller then ignored it. The caller, David, had been calling without her picking until the very last one.
“Hey, good evening” David sounded on the phone.
“Good evening” Udoka replied
reluctantly.
“Why didn’t pick my calls?”
“I don’t want to talk about it, please”
Silence too over between both of them. David couldn’t get it, so he said, “Can i see you?”
“No” Udoka replied.
“Why?”
“I just said no!” Udoka cut the call and flung the phone back to the bed. Her heart became weak thereby stimulating her tears gland. She couldn’t help to feel sorry for how she just reacted. The
more she tried to avoid the feelings, the more she missed and loved David. So, she sluggishly stood up, dressed up and headed to his apartment.
