Tony

“And the winner is…. Mrs
Kennedy.” I said.

The whole crowd screamed in
excitement. Mrs Kennedy was
short of words as happiness
was clearly written in her
eyes. The look on Paul’s face
was priceless.

“Paul, did everything he
could to get Mr Jefferson out
of the way, only for him to
lose to a woman.” A man from
the crowd says and the crowd
laughed.

Paul was dumbfounded
and short of words, Mrs
Kennedy stepped up to the
microphone to address the
audience, after receiving her
award.

“I want to say thank you
to everyone present here tonight, from the management, to the principal,
to the member of staff and every student of this school.

I say a very big thank you. But
most importantly, I say thank
you Mr Michael, for making me
realise the fact that it takes
more than just hard work to
achieve success. I have come
to realise that the road to
success is full of rocks, and
your attitude is what paves a
way for you through those
rocks. That’s why no matter
where you are, no matter
what you do, a good attitude
will always lead you through.

Your attitude to your coworkers, your attitude to
your boss, your attitude to your employees, your attitude to your students or to your customers and your attitude towards your friends.” She
paused for a while as if gauging the crowds reaction before she continued.

“What I mean is that, what
are people saying about you?
Do they even consider you as
a good person. An hardworking man with a bad
attitude is like an apple tree, filled with nothing but spoiled fruits, the tree keeps growing
bigger and bigger, yielding more and more fruits but no one’s plucking, why? Because they are all spoilt, so the tree is fruitful but rendered useless. We all know Mr
Jefferson should be standing
where I am right now, am I
right?”

“Yeah.” The whole crowd
chorused.

“But, he’s not and the
reason for that is because Mr
Michael here did everything he
could to kick him out of the
show, so I say a big thank you
to Mr Michael, even though
you are nothing but a cheat, I
say thank you for making
such a big fool out of yourself
and giving me the opportunity
to shine tonight.” Mrs Kennedy
says as she concluded her speech.

The look on Paul’s eyes
was terrifying, his eyes were
bloody red, he looked like a
tiger ready to pounce on Mrs
Kennedy. As he stepped
forward, probably hoping to
do just that. But the Principal
pulled him back.
“Don’t cause a scene Paul.”

The principal says.

“What do you mean by saying
that to me? Weren’t you here
when she was saying all those
things about me. She’s the
one who’s causing a scene by
lying against me like that.”

Paul says.
“We all know she wasn’t lying
Mr Mic.” The Principal says.

Paul was dumbfounded and greatly shocked by what the principal was saying.

“Do you really think we wouldn’t find out? every single atrocity that you have committed has been revealed to us by Mrs Willis, how you
had hired a notorious criminal to frame Mr Jefferson, how you had assaulted him several
times.” The Principal was saying.

“And you believed her?” Paul cuts in.

“No one in this school trusts you, everyone in this school is well aware of how dubious
you are. Plus she had some recorded evidence. Do you want me to play them for you
right now, do you?” The Principal says.
“Ehm… No.” Paul says unable
to raise his head anymore.

“Just like I thought. Just so you know a meeting was held a few days ago and every member of staff and management were invited,
except for you. During that
meeting, we had concluded
on, calling the police and
arresting you. But Mr Owens
decided that it will be better
to not only arrest you but to
crush your ego in the process
as well, so we were going to
let you win that award that
you’ve always been craving
for but you can never get the
big one and at the end of the
day you are still going to lose
everything, even though the
actual winner was not revealed during the meeting,

everyone had already known
it wasn’t going to be you. Mr
Michael the cops are on their
way as we speak.” The
principal had barely finished
his speech when Paul
dropped his award to the
ground and proceeded to
strangle the man.

“How dare you, how dare you
do this to me.” Paul was
screaming, with tears flowing
from his eyes.

It took the help of the security
operatives to break Paul’s
hold on the Principal’s neck.

The police soon arrived at the
venue and dragged a dejected
Paul away. Some of his
relatives who attended the
event were crying and
pleading on his behalf.

After all the commotion had
died down. The Chairman
stepped up to make an
announcement.

“As we all know that our dear
principal will be retiring from
office in a couple of months.”

The crowd gave the principal
a round of applause and a
standing ovation, as he waves
at the crowd.

“The management have
decided that there can only be
one man, who is capable enough to take up this
position. And I want to use this medium to announce to you all that that man is none
other than….” The Chairman pauses.

“Doveman! Doveman !!

Doveman!!!” The crowd chanted.

“Mr Anthony Jefferson.” The chairman declared as the whole crowd screamed and
rejoiced.

(Half an hour later.)

Tony was standing with Zach
as they were having a conversation.

Various people who were
walking past them were
congratulating Tony every
now and then.

“All is well that ends well, am I
right?.” Zach says.

Tony was staring at Isabella
who was chatting and laughing with Jade a couple of feet away.

“Good things started
happening to me ever since
she came into my life. She’s
like an angel that God had
sent to me.” Tony says.

“Yeah, and now we all live
happily ever after.” Zach says.

“You know what? Zach, I think
you’re right.” Tony says..

As he placed a hand on Zach’s
shoulder and the two friends hugged.
