TONY

My eyes were heavy and i am not
sure if it was due to the fact that
i didn’t get much sleep last night
or because i cried all through the
night.

Lord knows i loved that
woman,Lizzy.

My phone vibrated as a call came
in.

It was from Zach.
-Where are you?
-I’m at home
-Why aren’t you in school?
-I can’t come to school today i’m
too depressed.
-Want me to come over?
-No need for that i am okay,i just
need some rest.

-Alright dude,just don’t give it
too much taught,she ain’t worth
it.

(Conversation ended)
I tried cooking breakfast but i
couldn’t focus on anything.
I had to do something inorder to
vent my anger.I picked up a
baseball bat from the garage and
walked towards the huge tree in
my backyard i started attacking
the poor tree with the bat,taking
my anger out on the innocent
tree.

On a normal day i wouldn’t have
even broken a single twig on the
tree but at the highest peak of
frustration i had become a
monster breaking the tree
branches with the bat in my
hand.

I was still busy taking my
frustration out on the tree when.
“Good morning.”

I looked up to see Isabella
approaching,she looked worried.

“Are you alright?”She asked
I wanted to lie and act like
everything was fine but it wasn’t
my heart was broken.

I couldn’t hide it from her as i fell
to the grounds with tears
flowing from my eyes.

She walked closer to me and
placed her hand on my shoulder.
“I heard about what happened
from your friend Zach.I am sorry
but you need to know that your
case is not the worst.Guess
what?”She said.

“What?”
“My boyfriend broke up with
me,someone sent him the picture
of you and i kissing.”She said.

“I am sorry,i didn’t know.”I
began
“That’s not all,do you know why i
am able to stand here with you
without worrying about my
job,it’s because i no longer have
a job.”She dropped a bomb shell.
“What?.”I was dazed.

“It’s the truth.”She said
“What happened?”
“Whoever is doing this is really
playing their game well,someone
sent the picture to the school
managements and they weren’t
excited about it.Staff members
having a relationship was an
offence on its own not to
mention the fact that this staff
members happened to be the
Vice-Principal and The
Assistant.”She said.

“So i guess i am fired as well.”I
asked as my depression doubled.
“No you are not cause i took the
blame for you.”She said.
“You what?”I asked.

“Well i thought it won’t do me
any good if we were both fired
so i took the blame for you.”She
said smiling.

“How?”
“I told them that i forced myself
on you that since i was your boss
you had no other choice.”She
said.

“Ms Willis you shouldn’t have.I
really don’t know how to thank
you,or apologise to you you’re in
so much trouble because of
me.Now i feel even worse than i
felt earlier.”I stood up and
grabbed my bat and aimed for
the tree.

“If you are really frustrated then
why don’t you do something
about it.”She said.
“That’s what i am doing.”I
replied.

“By venting your anger on the
tree?I mean you should do
something manly.”She said
“Like what?”I asked.
“Like smashing something.”She
replied.

“Something like what?”I inquired.

“Come on”Bella said as she
dragged Tony towards his
neighbour’s yard.

“Oh no Ms Willis what if Mr
Turner comes back and finds us
on his lawn.”Tony said.

“Don’t worry we would be long
gone before he gets back.”Bella
said.

“Can you tell me what we are
doing here?”Tony asked
“You wanted me to show you
how a real man deals with anger
issues?This is how.”Isabella said.
“By sneaking into my
neighbour’s yard?”Tony asked.
“No.By smashing your
neighbour’s car.”Isabella said.
“What?Woman you crazy?”Tony
asked.

“Hand me the baseball bat.”She
said.

“{Giving her the baseball bat}
What do you intend to do
with…..”Tony barely finished his
statement when Isabella yelled.
“This is how to deal with
frustration.”As she slammed the
bat against Mr Turner’s Suv’s
bonnet denting it in the process.
“Your turn.”She said pointing the
bat at Tony.

“I can’t do this.”Tony said slightly
hitting the car with the bat the
slight hits soon turned into angry
thrusts,from the rear mirror to
the windscreen.

Two minutes later Mr Turner’s
car was a shadow of it’s former
self.

Tony looked in horror at what he
had done,but it worked he had
forgotten about all his
worries,infact the only thought
on his mind was how Mr Turner
was going to boil in rage after
seeing his car.

“Oh My God.I ruined the whole
car.”Tony said looking at Isabella.
“Yes you did.”She said looking
suprised,she probably didn’t
expect Tony to cause so much
wreckage.

“What do we do?”Tony asked.
“Right now?We run.”Isabella said
as both of them ran as fast as
they could.

Tony and Isabella were panting
excitedly as they la!d behind the
big tree in Tony’s backyard.

“That was fun.”Isabella said.
“You know what?It was
fun.”Tony said as both burst into
laughter.”Thank you for coming i
mean you made me feel
better.”Tony said.

“Actually you made me feel
better.”Bella said.
“Anyhow i just want to say
thanks Ms Willis.”Tony said.
“You can call me Bella and no
need to thank me.”Isabella said.
“Well Bella i am kind of worried
about one thing.”Tony said.
“And what’s that.”

“What do we do about my
neighbour’s car.”Tony asked.
“We act like we know nothing
about it.”Isabella said.
“That’s not fair.”Tony said.
“Tony life itself is not fair you
need to know that.”Bella said.
“But..”Tony started
“And i thought you said Mr
Turner was mean to you.”Bella
said.
“Yes he was very mean.But i
shouldn’t be mean to him.”Tony
said.

“Listen Tony,if you allow people
to ride over you all your life you
may never get up.”Isabella said.
Tony stared into her eyes and
said”You know we kissed once
and both our life has changed.I
wonder what will happen if we
do it again.”Tony Said as he
moved in and kissed Isabella fully
on the lips.

Tony arrived at school the next
morning for a suprise,the
receptionist with a frown on her
face had delivered a message to
his office.
”The principal wants you in his
office.”came the message.
Tony didn’t waste much time to
get on his feet and rushed to the
principal’s office.
‘Why would the principal send
for him this early in the
morning.’he thought.
He was just about to reach the
principal’s office when he saw
Paul approaching him with a
smirk on his face.
‘That filthy b-----d will surely have
something trashy to say.’Tony
thought as he struggles to keep
it together.

“Good morning Doveman.”Paul
greeted,in a mocking tone.
“You got her fired,are you happy
now?”Tony asked.
Paul shoved tony and pinned him
against the wall.”You think i
wanted this?I wanted to punish
you and you alone.Isabella is a
woman i love,yes i love her.It’s
because of you that she lost her
job you are the reason she got
fired and i am going to make you
pay for hurting her.”Paul was
saying.
“In cash or in kind.”A voice came
from the back,Paul needed no
one to tell him that it was Zach.
“Typical Paul always chasing after
what he can not get.At the end of
the day you end up getting hurt
both emotionally…”Zach crunched
his knuckles”and physically.”
Tony quickly rushed and held
Zach back before he turns Paul to
yesterday’s news.

“Let him go zach he’s not worth
it.”Tony pleaded as Paul managed
to escape.

“If only you’d let me go gangstar
on this dude a long time ago
none of this would have
happened.”Zach said.

“You are not a gangstar anymore
Zach,you are now a family
man.There’s no point in it if you
go to jail because of me.”Tony
added.

“What are you doing here
anyways.”

“The principal sent for me.”
“Hope it’s not cause of what i
think it is?”Zach asked.

“I hope so too.”Tony said as he
left for the principals office.

There was a silent knock at the
door.

“Who’s there come in.”The
principal said.
Tony came in.

“Oh Mr Jefferson please have
your seat.”The Principal said as
he switched his focus back to the
documents in his hand and
didn’t say a word to Tony for a
couple of minutes,fifteen minutes
to be precise.

“Now let’s get down to
business.” the principal said
finally looking up from the
documents.

“Mr Jefferson i hope you are
aware of the fact that the Vice-
Principal has been relieved of her
job here.”

“Yes i am aware.”Tony replied.
“Are you also aware of the
reason why she was?”The
principal further asked.
“Yes i am,with all due respect sir i
think i know what you’re getting
at.”

“Well in that case…”the principal
said placing a form in front of
him.”just sign here,here and
right here.”

“What’s this for?”Tony asked
fetching is pen from his pocket.
“By signing this contract you
hereby resign from your position
as the assistant VP.You are still a
staff of this school but your
position will be demoted
pending the time the school
management and board have
reached a conclusion on who will
fill in for the vacant post.”The
principal said.”Don’t feel too bad
about it though.The school
managemen has agreed to make
their next pick from the winners
of this year’s BTAS.The female
winner will become the new
Vice-Principal while the male will
be chosen as the assistant and
despite all the things that
happened you are still the best
candidate on the list.”
After Tony had finished signing
the form,he looked up with a
smile on his face.”Sir i do not
wish to contest for this year’s
BTAS competition.I am just okay
the way i am,just a regular
teacher nothing more.”Tony got
up and left the principal’s office.
The Principal watched as he
walked away,shaking his head
wondering what kind of human
Anthony Jefferson is.
