Unbreakable Love - Season 1 - Episode 9

*To make a difference in someone’s life you don’t have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful or perfect you just have to care*

It’s early in the morning. The sun is not hot yet. Sweet vapor rise from the earth. Birds call to one another and bees are already at work. He entered the kitchen while fixing his tie.

“When you arise in the morning think of what a precious priviledge it is to be alive to breath, to think, to enjoy and to love,” He kissed her on the cheek. “Morning Auntie.”
“Morning. How are you sweetheart? I missed you very much. You just left without saying goodbye.”
“I am sorry Auntie,” he pulled a chair in the kitchen
“It’s okay I understand. I can see you all dressed up to go to work.”
“Yes, I am here to grab a cup of coffee then two slices of breath with polony, no eggs. Hmmm Auntie Gloria. Where is Adela?”

She faced down with a worried look on her face.
“Auntie! Did something bad happen to her?”
“No no no. It’s her grandmother. She had a heartattack last night and died.”
“Oh my goodness!” His hands on mouth
“Poor kid. She is left with no one. I feel for her. She is a very strong lady and hardworking. I wish to have been with her but can’t go,” said Gloria dropping a tear.

Gloria was the oldest maid in the house. She had been working for Stevie’s parents for about 17 years.

“You love her Auntie,” said Stevie wiping her tears.

“Yes, she is like a daughter to me. I care about her a lot. The things she used to tell me. What she went through at such a young age. She is very strong and a survivor,” she sniffed. “I am sorry I don’t know why I am so emotional. I get very emotional when it comes to her. I feel like I know her or we related.”
“It’s okay Auntie. I understand. I will go and see her after work rather before. To make sure that she is alright.”
“Really?”
“Yes!”
“Thank you so much son. God bless you.”
He later got out of the house and drove to Adela’s place. Someone who cares will ask you how how your day is. They want to know what you are doing, they want to know if something significant has happened in your life. You don’t have to talk to them all the time, but when you do see them, they will want to know how you are. Not out of some sort of obligation, but because they genuinely want to know.

Someone who cares will tell you things. They will tell you how ridiculous that parking ticket was. They will tell you a joke they found hilarious. Some people share more than others, but someone who cares will tell you things that matter to them, nomatter how small that thing is.
Someone who cares will listen. Now there are times when they won’t listen well. We all do that sometimes we are distracted or so excited we talk over each other. But a person who care will listen to you regularly, because your opinions matter to them. The things you say make some sort of impact on them. Your opinions make them think or make them laugh but in their way, whatever way is they will listen.

Stevie parked his car outside Adela’s house. He got off and headed towards the door. He knocked on the door but there was no response. He waited on the door and was about to walk to his car when she slowly opened it. She ran into his arms and cried hysterically.

“Let it all out my princess. Hush sweetheart,” he patted her back.
“She is gone sir. I don’t have anyone else to comfort me. She loved me very much. How am I going to survive without her?”
He wiped her tears,
“I am here for you. I am your family and I will never leave you. I know it hurts but I am here to make the pain go away. You loved your grandma and so did she. It was time for her to leave us. You going to be alright I promise,” he held her so so tightly in his arms.

Later on he made her a cup of coffee so she could calm down. They talked and laughed when the clock stroke 5pm. She started making dinner.
“Weren’t you supposed to go to work today?”
“I was but I needed to be with you here. Should I put the onions now?” His eyes on the pot.
“Hmmm wait just few minutes. Don’t burn yourself. Did you peel the carrots? You also need to add the green beans.”

“Yes, madam. How did you learn to do all of this?”

“Auntie Gloria taught me and grandma…”
“Why didn’t you leave with them?”
“She was not my real grandmother. It’s just that she treated me like I was related to her. Besides her children decided that the funeral will be taking place at Harare. I couldn’t go I hardly know them,” she said cutting some vegetables.
“I understand now. This is going to be delicious. I don’t love cooking but after this I might consider going to a culinary school. Be a chef.”
She laughed pinching him.
“You insane!”

He grabbed her waist and pulled her close to him. They stared at each other for a long moment. The only sound heard their breathing.
“Can you smell that?” She sniffed.
“D--n! It’s burning.” He ran to the stove and removed the pot. “Look what you made me do Adela, the maid.”
“But it is your fault,” she said laughingly and he started chasing her.
