Sharon - Season 2 - Episode 19

I couldn’t go back to my class anymore till school over. I still waited for everybody to leave the class before I’d go in. I tiptoed to our class through the backdoor and saw Chidimma just leaving with Sharon, and I trailed them slowly hiding on intervals. Sharon seemed to still be crying as she buried her face into chidimma’s shoulder and Chidimma cuddled her nicely. That sight saddened me the more because that should’ve been me taking chidimma’s place but, instead I was the actual cause of her tears.

Sharon was right, I didn’t fight for her. The moment she begged me to let it go, I had forgotten about it. I only fought because that was what all my friends expected me to do, I didn’t want to be seen as a weakling. So, I fought to save my pride and now my pride was the only thing I had with me as everybody was now mad at me.
I couldn’t stand looking at them anymore so, I ran into our class quickly and started packing my books hastenly to avoid Chidimma meeting up with me. I didn’t want to see the disappointment on her face when she looks at me. She caught up with me before I could finish, her face had no expression as she looked at me but I could still tell she was mad at me. Who wouldn’t be mad at you for beating their best friend? She went to her seat and sat down without saying a word to me. I also rounded up and walked out without talking to her too. Nobody even wants to know what happened, they can all go to hell for I care; I said inaudibly as I started going home.
Getting outside the gate and the Outlawz weren’t anywhere to be found either. For the first time since we got into secondary school my cousin went home without waiting for me. I walked on head high avoiding the stares of my schoolmates on the road then a thought came to my mind immediately. “What if I should meet one of the people we’d beaten before or harassed in anyway, what’d be my fate?”. I asked myself as I read the faces of some jss3 guys that were walking on the other path of the road, non of them had been in our beating list before but they didn’t seem to like me neither. “Always be on guard”. I said to myself and started walking quickly, flagged down a bike, climbed immediately and rode home. One week later and I still wasn’t talking to anybody in our class except Kelvin. Sharon wasn’t talking to anyone either except ugochi and Chidimma. She had left her seat, and now shares ugochi’s desk with her. Me on the other hand left mine too to pair with Kelvin. Our desks were left vacant. During break I’d have no one to play with because Kelvin would be with the Outlaws, Sharon started skipping breaks too and stayed back in class with Chidimma, she stopped bringing her regular pancakes too. That was when I remembered Miriam, didn’t know if she was mad at me too because I haven’t met with her since I quarreled with Sharon but, for now she was the only friend I had. She was now in Jss1, her mum made her skip primary 6 as her class teacher had advised. But she still loved spending times with her former classmates at the merry go round. During break that Tuesday I went to find her at the Merry go round and of course she was there spinning around with her friends. They stopped when I got there. She looked at me and smiled, which gave me hope, the seat next to hers was empty so I sat with her then asked them to continue riding.
“Miriam! Top of the morning”. I teased her and she smirked.
“What’s that?”. She asked
