Sharon - Season 2 - Episode 9

I so much as hell didn’t want that, and I prayed she wouldn’t accept but even if she did, I wouldn’t let her. Trek with the Outlawz? That’s not the safest company for a girl to trek home with not to talk of my girl. Even ugochi rarely goes home with us because Kelvin knew it wasn’t safe. Moreover I didn’t want her getting influenced by my friends, yes I was young then but, as child from a Christian home I knew what was right and what wasn’t.

“That’d be nice, I’d love to but not yet. Soon I will”. She assured and Kelvin nodded then patted my back.
” We’d be outside “. He said then left with Kingsley and the others.

” soon you will?”. I asked her and she nodded.

“You’d like that, won’t you?”. She said as she stood up and started packing her books. It was just me, her and chidimma in class now. Trust chidimma in minding her business. She knows when and where to jump in.

” like? I wouldn’t want that”. I said and she stopped packing for a moment and gave me a surprised look.

“Why? You don’t want me knowing your house?”. She asked me looking confused and I giggled.

” is this all about knowing my house?”. I asked and she looked more confused, then she continued packing again.
“What is it about then?”. She asked.
“It’s not safe”. She laughed a little when I said this then stopped and looked at me.
” What’s funny? “. I asked confusedly.
“You are. You don’t want me going home with your gang because it’s not safe, then you’re still going with them. What does that mean?”. She spoke with seriousness. Then I knew I shouldn’t have protested her wanting to trek with us in time to come.
” Does that mean you don’t like being safe?”. She continued her questions and I in turn gave her no answer rather I was staring at chidimma who’s turned towards us since we brought up this topic. She was smiling at me, but that wasn’t just a smile that was an “I told you so” smile.

“Well I guess I shouldn’t have said that, am….”. I tried to make Sharon drop the topic, but she cut in.

“Well it’s good you did. If it wasn’t for that gang of yours Kingsley wouldn’t be limping. and you? You wouldn’t need this headband”. She Explained and I shook my head smiling.

“No, if it wasn’t them. I won’t have gotten this cute gift from you. And talking about Kingsley, he’s still limping out there with them”. Chidimma laughed out a little then suppressed it once Sharon looked at her.
” So, you’re okay with what happened anyway “. Sharon asked with her arms folded.

” No, but Rev. Mike always say. Whatever happens was always bound to happen”. I said and she sighed. Reverend Mike was our C.R.S teacher, I don’t know if he was a real reverend but that’s how he was introduced to us and so we addressed him so.

Sharon was still going to continue with her argument then someone walked in to save me. It was Jenny, once I saw it was her I gave a sigh of relief. She’d only be here for one thing, Sharon. She came in with that irritated look on her face, she stared at Chidimma first, then me for a while before she turned towards Sharon.

“Haven’t you had enough of him for the day?”. She asked and Sharon smiled at her.
“There’s never enough with him”. She replied her sister smiling at me.

” The Bus is about to leave, coming or what?”. Jenny asked her calmly.
“Now that was polite”. I said in a low tone but Sharon heard it and she smiled. She was done packing her books, I on the other hand was just starting so, she stood their waiting for me and also kept her sister standing.
” Sharon! ” Jenny yelled infuriated.

I turned to Sharon who wasn’t even moved and I urged her to go on, she hesitated for a while staring at me then she sighed. She came and hugged me from behind, then whispered in my ear.

” forgot to tell you, Inter house sports heats Starts next Wednesday. I’ll miss you”. She informed me and I nodded. She went on to hug chidimma and waved us goodbye. She started leaving but, Jenny still stood there shooting me a dead look. Guess she was waiting for Sharon to leave so, she could have an unfriendly pep talk with me or more likely a Pep warning. Sharon had reached the door when I called her and She turned immediately.
“I’ll miss you too, cherry”. I said and she smiled then waved at me and ran out, well thanks to Jenny I could say what I had in mind to my girlfriend just so I’d piss her off. Jenny faked a smile and came closer, I was through packing my books then, my desk locked and my bag strapped to my back.

” What’s up jay”. I greeted smiling at her too.

“You’re already calling her pet names and that’s her headband with you?”. She asked and I shrugged.
” sweet one, right?”. I said then sat down on a desk crossed my legs and hung them on the top part like a boss in his office.

“Heard you’re now the boyfriend?” She sighed.

“Yeah, latest boyfriend in town”. I joked almost laughing.
” seriously? How old are you?”. I sighed out loud this time then sat up properly. ” here we go again “. I said inwardly.
” uhm, not old enough I guess “. I said in a fake weak voice as I staggered up.
” Float your age!!”. She barked and when I didn’t react indifferently she continued.
“My sister is still a child, forget her looks. Forget that she talks like an adult, she’s just eleven. She’s not ready for a relationship or a boyfriend! Not yet and not with a rascal like you”. She said aggressively and I laughed. She made a whole lot of sense, infact she was right but the fact she had to add me into it made it personal. She didn’t just want her sister being with me.

“That’s quite a Nick, what’s the meaning anyway?”. I asked her laughing, she just smiled and said nothing so, I continued.
” okay, fine we’re going stop seeing each other. is that Okay?”. I lied and she was smart enough not to buy it either.

“We both know you’d never do that”. She said smiling wickedly and I shrugged then made to leave before she continued.

” But, don’t worry. I know she’d get bored of you soon. Maybe not now but I know She’ll get to know you just for what you are soon. And I’d be back here to look at your shamed face when she dumps you and I’d laugh you to more shame”. She smiled wickedly. Her words were just a mere prediction but it did Scare me to the bone, I can’t tell why but I became speechless. The smile on my face was the worst fake you’d ever see.

“Have a nice day”. she left with that wicked look on her face. I still stood their watching the door, imagining how it’d look if Sharon was to dump me. For the first time I was scared of our relationship.

” Don’t tell me you believed that”. Chidimma said as she pinched me.
“Well she sounded serious, like she was so sure it’d happen”. I shrugged.
” she’s not a soothsayer okay? She was just trying to mess with you and you were okay till she said that”. She said patting my shoulder but I said nothing.

“I was never worried that Sharon would dump you because am sure she’d never do that, instead I was always scared that you would. But from what I just saw I don’t think you both are ever going to leave each other”. Those words comforted me and I smiled at her.

” She’s right though, we’re still too young to…”

“So? Are you going to break up for that?”. She cut in, she looked Concerned.

“Easy for you. You don’t have a boyfriend”. I teased her and she shrugged.
” that’s because I haven’t seen someone I like the way you both like each other “. She shrugged.

” Even me?”. I joked and she smacked me with her novel and we both laughed.
“Indeed”. She started heading back to her seat. Chidimma was quite a girl with this unique attitude of hers, she always used every spare minute she had in reading things, yet she wasn’t quite nerdy like you’d expect such a bookworm to be. I wasn’t really upset she took first position in our first term and I took third. But I swore I was going to dethrone her this term and I was working towards that not by writing my notes but, by paying attention until Sharon showed up.
