THE SECURITY GUARD

PROLOGUE
After a long day at work, Khaya is tired, exhausted and his whole body is aching. He’s been extremely busy trying to save his security company from being sold. But that is not all, he knows that if he sells he would start over somewhere. There is something else bothering him. He is getting old and has no wife.
When he was struggling it was fine but now that things are better and his business starts to pick up, it starts to bother him. He is now seeing things differently.
Picking up all the papers in his desk, he went outside, passing everyone like he doesn’t see them. Surprisingly, nobody speaks. They just look at their boss get in the car and disappear on the horizon.
He is supposed to be driving home, but there is no one there, he passes by the restaurant to get himself a takeaway and go home. He gets inside the house. He realises when he is inside that he forgot his takeaway in the car. He goes back to fetch it, cursing silently.
When he opens the door his heart almost stops, a beautiful woman is about to knock at his door. She looks like she wants to disappear when she sees him. That gives him an opportunity to check her up. She is wearing a mid leg pencil dress that compliments her figure. Her hair is neatly braided.
Holding a suitcase and a small bag, she looked like someone who is looking for a place to stay. Without even thinking he says, “you can come in.” He sees the way she looks at her. “I mean… You see that it’s late, get inside.” She got in not so sure about the idea. He tells her that he needs to fetch his food in the car, she follows him to make sure.
They go back in his sitting room. He wants to ask so many questions, but doesn’t know how to ask and not offend her.
“My name is Smangele, I’m looking for a room to rent. I was directed around this place but I think I didn’t hear ….”
He cut her off with a nervous laugh, “ I’m sure whoever directed you doesn’t know how to direct a person. But I have an empty room here, you can sleep for tonight then tomorrow you can go and look for a room,” he says avoiding to look at her. He hadn’t notice how beautiful she is. He looks at her, as she takes out her phone and told her family where she is and send them her location.
When she stops looking at her phone he quickly looks away. He directs her to the empty room and went to his bedroom , switches off the light.
A quiet knock disturbs him, “What’s up?” He asked sleepily, “I’ve noticed that you didn’t eat your food so I thought I should ask if I may… you know? It’s been a long day” He takes a deep breath before saying, “okay you may have it.” He hears “thanks”, before he closes his eyes.
Her voice is so sweet. It makes him think all the things he shouldn’t. He tells himself it’s just one night then it’s over, by this time tomorrow, she will be gone into her own place before things get out of hand.
