{ Dominion Life Church }
Isabel knelt in front of the statue of the Holy Mary, her hands folded tightly together ,dressed in her nun attire. She held her rosary and whispered prayers under her breath, her eyes closed shut as if she was trying to pray away her guilt.
The huge wooden door of the church made a long, creeping sound and Mother Ava entered, smiling widely. Isabel was done praying. She looked back and saw Mother Ava standing there.
“God, I know what I am doing with Shane is terrible, but I can’t think of letting go of him either,”Isabel thought to herself, her heart heavy. She quickly stood up and walked towards Mother Ava.
“Mother Ava, I want to discuss something very important with you,”Isabel said, her voice barely a whisper.
Mother Ava looked at her face and saw the worry in her eyes.
She nodded softly. “Follow me then.”
*******
Mother Ava and Isabel went to the orphanage home right next to the church, staring at the children playing around in the compound. Their laughter filled the air.
“These children are blessings to me,” Mother Ava said with a warm smile, then she turned and stared at Isabel. “What do you want to talk about, dear? You look troubled.”
Isabel sighed deeply, tears already gathering in her eyes. “I want to know why my mom left me, Mother Ava. Why was I abandoned like that? Doesn’t she love me? Aren’t I a blessing to her? Mother Ava, please, if you know her, tell me. I need to know.”
Mother Ava gently held Isabel’s hand, squeezing it tightly.
“Don’t say that dear.”Mother Ava said softly. “You are a special gift from heaven itself. Your mother dearly loves you a lot, trust me. Wherever she is, she will never forget you. Never.”
FLASHBACK
The rain was pouring heavily outside. It was night time, cold and windy. The sky was dark and thunder sounding loudly.
A lady ran as fast as she could towards the orphanage, breathing heavily, her clothes completely soaked, with a tiny baby wrapped in a blanket in her arms.
She knocked on the door multiple times while constantly looking back into the dark road, as if someone was chasing her.
The door cracked open. Mother Ava’s face was revealed. She stared at the soaked lady and the crying baby in shock.
“Please, help me take my baby. Kee_p her safe. Please,” The lady cried, her voice shaking as she handed the baby over to Mother Ava.
“I love you, my baby. Please name her Isabel,”She said, still looking backward in fear. Then she turned and ran away into the darkness.
“Wait! What is your name, miss?”Mother Ava screamed, but the lady was already gone, far into the dark night.
Then Mother Ava stared down at the child in her arms, who was now quiet.
PRESENT
Isabel cleaned the tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Your mother loved you a lot, Isabel,”Mother Ava explained gently. “She gave you that name herself, and from the looks of it, I think she was trying to protect you because she was really in a hurry that night. She was scared for you.”
”You told me my dad died and went bankrupt, that’s why my mom left me,” Isabel whispered, sniffing.
“At the orphanage, a child isn’t allowed in without any information, so I had to investigate,” Mother Ava said. “Why do you think I named you Isabel Hart? That was your father’s surname. His name was Aaron Hart. He was a servant to a Mafia boss until he was killed and everything was taken away from your mother. That’s all the information I could get. I didn’t get a picture of your parents, nor your mother’s name, Isabel, but what I do know is that she loves you very much.”
Tears stung Isabel’s eyes, but this time they were not just sad tears. “It’s fine,”She said with a small, painful smile. “I am happy she loves me. That’s enough for me.”
They both hugged each other tightly.
{ Ashford Mansion }
The doors slammed open, seraphina got in, her heels clinking sharply against the marble floor, echoing through the entire mansion. Her designer bag swung wildly at her side. Joan sat in the living room, being served tea by two maids.
Seraphina stormed straight to her, her fists balled so tight her knuckles turned white, her jaw clenched and her face fuming with rage. Her chest rose and fell heavily. She looked like she could explode at any second.
“That bastard didn’t die,” Seraphina spat, her voice filled with pure venom.
Joan slowly set her teacup down on the table, the soft clink sounding loud in the tense silence, and stood up.
“What?!”Joan said, her eyes narrowing. “What are you talking about?, I paid them ,they are my most loyal men.”
“I’m talking about when those men kidnapped that girl.” Seraphina paced in front of her, half yelling, half crying. “Guess what, Shane saved her! He actually saved her! Am I not good enough? Tell me, Mrs joan! What does she have that I don’t?”
She threw her hands in the air.
“What’s so good about her that he doesn’t see in me? I have class! I have status! I have a name that opens doors! My dad is a billionaire and she, she has nothing! Her name doesn’t carry a thing but dust! She is nobody! Why can’t he see that I am special? Why can’t he see that I am the one who deserves him?”
“Seraphina, lower your voice—” Joan started.
“What are you two talking about?”
A cold voice cut through the air from the grand stairs.
Both of them turned.
Shane stood at the top of the staircase, hands in his pockets, his face unreadable but his cat like eyes as cold as ice.
Seraphina’s eyes widened in panic. All the anger on her face was instantly replaced by shock.
“Sh-Shane… what are you doing here?”She stammered.
Shane walked down slowly, each step dangerous than the last.
“Should I ask for your permission before coming to my own house, huh?”Shane asked, his voice cold and flat. Then his gaze shifted to Joan. “Anyways, I don’t care what you two are gossiping about. Just know one thing ,I am not marrying you, Seraphina. Not now. Not ever. Not even in your dreams.”
Seraphina’s face fell.
“You’re going to marry her, Shan—”
”You can go to hell for all I care,”Shane cut her off, not even looking at her. ”If you want to marry her so badly, then do it yourself.”
With that, Shane brushed past them and headed straight for the door.
Seraphina snapped back to reality and ran after him, her heels clicking frantically.
”Shane! Shane, you can’t do this to me!”She screamed grabbing his arm as he reached the driveway. “We had a lot of things in common! Think about it! Our names both start with S! We are both rich, both famous, both powerful! We are meant to be together! Everyone says so!”
Shane stopped and turned to her. He let out a bitter chuckle that made her flinch.
“All of this is in your head, Seraphina,”He said, his voice cold and hoarse. “Just in your head. Hearing you say that makes me want to throw up. We have nothing in common.”
Seraphina’s fists clenched again, her long nails digging deep into her palms, leaving angry red marks.
“Then what’s so perfect about that bitch, Isabel?”She half yelled, her voice breaking. “Tell me! What does she have that I don’t?”
Shane looked her dead in the eyes, his expression finally showing a flicker of emotion not anger, but disgust.
“She’s everything you can never be.”
With that final blow, he got into his black car, slammed the door, and drove off, leaving Seraphina standing alone with her ruined pride.
She stood there trembling for a long second, then her face twisted into something dark and dangerous.
She whispered to herself, her voice low and laced with hatred.
“Oh, Isabel Hart,I won’t let this slide. You just took what is mine. You have no idea who you messed with. I’ll make sure you pay for this ,even if it’s the last thing I do.”
{ Girls Dorm }
Gwen sat on her bed, her legs crossed, thinking about what Knox did in his dorm earlier. Her entire face was red as she recalled it over and over again, playing it like a movie in her head.
“Does he actually like me?”Gwen thought, biting her lips and smiling like a fool.
The door burst open. Iris walked in and dropped her bag next to her bed with a loud thud.
Her phone buzzed. She pulled it out and checked her messages. She had already made new friends recently, then she saw Ice’s contact. She couldn’t believe she actually gave him her contact.
She pressed it and checked his message.
🗨 Sorry Iris, I can’t go out with you tonight. Change of plans. Let’s have our date at the pool party tonight.
“Pool party?” Iris muttered.
Gwen’s thoughts snapped the moment she heard the words pool party.
“Iris, when did you actually get in… Never mind, I also heard there’s a pool party tonight,”Gwen said, suddenly excited and swinging her hips.
”Pool party?” Iris repeated, looking up.
At that moment, Isabel walked in.
“Hey, Isabel, there’s a pool party tonight. Wanna come?”Gwen asked with a grin.
“What’s a pool party?”Isabel asked innocently.
“Gosh, you two are nerds that have great bodies,” Gwen said, rolling her eyes playfully. “Anyway, a pool party is a bunch of teenagers having fun, half naked, swimming and having loads of fun. Music, lights, drinks , everything.”
“Pool party? I have heard of a lot of things college kids do, but not that. I am in,” Iris said.
Isabel leaned closer to Iris and whispered, ”Iris, we are going to be half naked.”
Iris rolled her eyes. ”Isn’t that the point of a pool party? Don’t you want Shane going crazy over you in that bikin, right gwen.”
“Yeah,right.”
Isabel’s face flushed bright red. “Okay, enough! But I am still not going. I would rather study and focus on—”
“Pleeeaseee,” Gwen and Iris chorused together, making puppy eyes at her.
“I don’t want to be half naked,” Isabel whispered.
“Don’t worry, you don’t have to be,”Gwen winked. “You can wear something cute. Just come!”
{ Seraphina’s Dorm }
Freya was busy making a video call with her boyfriend, giggling loudly, while Jinx was busy checking photos of Knox on her phone. She dropped her phone and started fixing her hair in the mirror.
”Tonight, I want to look so beautiful for Knox. He won’t hesitate to dump that bitch, Gwen,”Jinx said, applying lip gloss.
Freya let out a chuckle. “Do you actually think those two are dating? The rumors say Knox is a virgin, never hooks up. Nobody knew he was actually dating her until the day you snatched her erotic novel, then poof they are dating.“
Jinx stared at Freya. “You’re right. There’s no way Knox would date that loser. That means I can still have him to myself—”
The door snapped open in a harsh way. Seraphina came in, her face fuming with so much rage that her makeup couldn’t hide it. Her bag was almost torn from how tight she was holding it.
“What’s wrong, Seraphina?”Jinx asked quickly. “Are you okay?”
“Does it look like I am okay, huh? That bitch has taken Shane away from me! No, I won’t let that happen! I won’t!” Seraphina yelled.
Freya ended her call immediately.
“Seraphina, calm down. Tonight there’s a pool party. That loser nun won’t be there, but Shane will be there for sure. You can have him to yourself,”Freya said, a sly smile forming. “I have an idea. It’s wild, but I don’t know if you are in for it.”
Seraphina looked up, her eyes burning.
“Anything,” She said through gritted teeth. “Anything to get what’s mine.”
