[Marisa’s Manor]

“Cheers!” Marisa raised her glass.

Jethro clinked his glass with hers, but Satan and Midnight remained seated.

They didn’t even take their glasses.

“I told you … Getting fake parents is the best way to lock her mind away from her family thoughts. Now, watch how every thought of ever escaping this city will leave her mind completely,” Marisa said.

“You might be a little deranged, but you’re useful.” Jethro grinned.

“I can say the same about you,” Marisa tipped her glass. “You promised to find out Arturo’s secret business, but you hadn’t done anything at all.”

“Are you impatient?” Jethro laughed shortly, sipping. “Don’t worry, after I complete my plans on getting my ApexPlus back, I’ll give you the answer about Arturo’s business.”

“My daughter is dead, and you both are clinking glasses?” Satan muttered slowly from her seat.

Marisa and Jethro looked at her.

“Just send her to Aftermoor to be awakened!”

“Only a soul that hadn’t gotten to the underworld can be awakened in Aftermoor! Roselle’s soul is already in the underworld…” Midnight said.

“That’s….sad.” Marisa sighed. “So…who killed her? El Crow?”

“That son of yours kept getting mysterious. I wonder what is it about him that unsettles me,” Jethro said with crooked brows.

Marisa and Satan exchanged secret glances.

“But then… I’ll unravel him and his father once I’m done getting my ApexPlus back,” Jethro added.

Satan stood.

Midnight did too.

“While I chase the truth about my children’s death, I’ll give the whole of New Orleans the bear second tournament ever!” Satan promised.

“I can’t wait!” Marisa laughed.

“Make it worth it,” Jethro added.

Midnight and Satan smiled cruelly at each other, then classes linked.

[Departmental Store]

No guarding staffs came with Bellatrix and Skylar to the store.

Bellatrix was swivelling on her heels as they came out of the car.

She happily led the way into the store, humming.

Skylar stayed behind, mind in shackles with thoughts.

It’s now she remembered that night that Roselle died.

Roselle had wounded her very badly before El Crow came. Yet, she woke up in Jethro’s house the next day with totally fine body with no wounds.

Did El Crow feed her his blood.
Cos ApexPlus can heal Apex.

That must be it.

She paused.

“Skylar!” Bellatrix came back to her. “Are you ok?”

Skylar just followed her inside without answering her.

“My husband brought me hangover soup this morning!” Bellatrix chirped. “He’s so intentional, right?”

“I guess…” Skylar said.

Bellatrix continued humming till they arrived at the main showroom.

The attendants bowed their heads immediately in respond.

Bellatrix and Skylar sat.

Wine was served them.

Two different boxes were brought out on a sparkling tray.

Bellatrix flipped it open, showcasing two new necklaces with petal pendants. Cute. Rare.

“What do you think?” Bellatrix showed them to Skylar. “I got I and my husband a couple set.”

Skylar held back from crashing out again. Why the fûck is Cinderella shoving things on her face?

She gave her no reply, so Bellatrix set the boxes down and stood.

“Oh my bladder! I’ll go use the restroom!” She rushed.

The attendants showed her the way, and as she disappeared down the lane, Skylar’s eyes returned to the couple necklaces.

She stared at it till they blurred in her sight like her habit.

Congratulations to the couple.
Congratulations to the couple.

She was chanting inwardly as she stared at the set.

But Bellatrix was taking too long, so Skylar stood and made her way to the bathroom too.

She came to a stop immediately she entered, cos by the door of the first row, a man in suit stood there, peeping inside the bathroom.

Judging by the running shower inside, Bellatrix is definitely inside.

And he’s… peeping at her?

Skylar took just three steps.
Three long, precise steps.

She leapt, twisted, and thrusted her boot into his mouth.

He crashed violently to the floor, and that was when Bellatrix came out.

She gasped, shocked by what she’s seeing, but it was just starting.

Skylar dragged the man by the hair into the bathroom and broke a hand bowl with her knee.

“Since you love peeping at pussies so much, then look at it!” She snarled and took one of the huge pieces and slammed it on his head.

The man fell with a sick crash, and his face entered the toilet.

Skylar threw the remaining huge piece of porcelain at his head, and his head broke completely into the toilet.

“Aggggggghhhhhh!!!!!!” Bellatrix screamed madly.

Skylar looked up, and Bellatrix shifted back.

“Why would you kill him!!!”

“He was peeping at you!” Skylar glared poisonously.

“You could have reported him to the cops!!” Bellatrix yelled in horror. “I keep trying to get close to you, but you keep showing me you’re worse than my father! How could you…”

She backed up again, shook her head and ran out of the bathroom.

The attendants rushed inside, and one of them fainted when she saw the horrid brain matter of the man inside the freaking toilet.

“Check the cameras. He was peeping at Jethro’s daughter,” Skylar said.

Then she walked out too.

Outside, Bellatrix was gone when Skylar arrived at the park.

Skylar simply began trekking down the road with no plans to return to Jethro’s house till daybreak.

[ 11:40 AM – A Private Pub ]

Skylar sat alone beside a long expensive table in a private room she had rented just for tonight.

She wore a white bathing robe and even tied the white towel on her head. She held a wine glass.

A really large black cake sat on the table with 24 burning on top.

Yearly, she celebrates like this.
Alone. Coldly. No paparazzi.

It’s as if she’s mourning her misery.

Grieving her own situation.

As she watched the burning candle, she also watched the time, awaiting for when 12PM will clock.

Those people can’t be her real parents. Her real parents won’t be ok with her getting married to a man old enough to father her.

They can’t be.

They can’t be.

At 11:59, she shut her eyes, and her mind made a wish.

FIND MY FAMILY.

A wish she makes yearly but it never comes to pass anyways.

No harm in persistence.

At 12PM, she blew out the candle, and the door instantly opened.

Thinking it’s room service, she just waved her hand, but her nose caught the scent of him, and she looked up.

There, by the door…

El Crow stood with Eden beside him.

That was what made sitka stand, an unplanned warmth in her cheek.

“Eden?”

“Sister.” The little girl smiled. “Brother said today was your birthday, so I said I wanted to come and give you a gift.”

She revealed a box, and Skylar walked slowly to her.

“Do I deserve a gift? I left you to die. I didn’t come visit you too…” She shrugged, folding her arms.

Eden detached herself from El Crow and pointed the box up at her.

Skylar took it, opened it, and saw a really gorgeous nose ring.

“I picked it myself…” Eden said.

Skylar smiled shortly, stroking her hair a little. “Thank you, little runaway,” she nodded.

“Can I eat some cake?” Eden blinked.

Skylar lifted her immediately, taking her to the huge table.

She sat her down and gave her a fork.

“It’s all yours.”

“Thanks, Sister.” Eden blew her a kiss and focused on the cake.

Skylar turned around, wanting to return into the bedroom.

El Crow moved fast, swiftly hooking her by the elbow. “Skylaar!”

“What!” She broke free roughly. Her head towel loosened. “You brought Eden, and yeah I’m grateful for it. Thank you for keeping her alive, but I don’t want to talk to someone who accuses me at any chance!”

“You both are always fighting,” Eden said from where she’s eating cake.

She didn’t even look back.

“It wasn’t me,it was my blood. I had a stupid illusion at the Departmental Store, and I thought I’d been found out cos the attendants acted strange. I was directed to you by the power, not exactly what I wanted!” El Crow said.

Skylar hissed and walked out eventually. He followed her.

“Come on, Skylaar!”

She went through another door, and he walked through it too.

“I don’t know why you’re following me!” She snapped.

“You even blocked me! Are you serious right now?” He said.

She looked back.

“What you said to me, you’d probably shoot me if I said it to you!”

Then she continued walking.

“Skylaar!” He caught her by that elbow again, holding her sleek against the wall.

“I acted like a fucker…and I admit it. I talked like a fucker too. I’m sorry…”

Skylar looked at him for a second, then she looked away and pushed him off. “The only thing between us right now is the knot and the plan happening later today. You should leave… El Crow.”

She tried to move, but he held her again by the shoulders.

His voice went lower…

“What do you want? Say anything…”

“Maybe if you write I’M SORRY on a full notebook…” She rolled eyes.

“Where is the notebook?” He asked, his hands sliding from her shoulders to her hands.

He held her hands and caressed her knuckles with his thumbs.

She blinked…

But before she could talk, he made a call to the room service for a notebook and a pen.

It was brought too fast.

He left the building completely and went out the backdoor.

Surprisingly, the Mississippi river stretched to this pub.

It ran across the backyard, and there are other patrons of the pub littering everywhere in their Winnebago and beach umbrellas and extravagance.

It looked like a beach, but Skylar’s side was unoccupied.

So he sat on the sand and placed the book on his lap, starting his writing.

Skylar came out to him, and she had to pause when she saw him writing for real like a dedicated student.

She stood behind him, making him the view. The way his hands moved fast across the lines, blessing the book pages with I’M SORRY.

Repeatedly. He wrote.

Unrelentingly. He wrote.

He didn’t look up once, and at a time, he began laughing dementedly while writing faster, fingers snapping, ink overflowing, eyes sick.

She snatched the book from him when he got to the middle.

He looked up.

“I’m not done, Cummie…”

She looked at the book, then at him, and dragged him up to stand by the collar of his jacket.

“You’re crazy,” she muttered.

“We are.” He chuckled.

She shut her eyes, nodding as the breeze carried her hair around her face, webbing her face.

“Don’t ever assume things from now on,” she said.

“I won’t.” He turned serious.

“Trust me, as much as I trust you…” She added, voice lower.

“I will.” His brows relaxed.

She was speechless afterwards. The breeze won’t stop blowing her hair, and his hair joined the blow too.

The water seemed to turn colder.

The breeze turned harder.
The lights around turned brighter.

Her hold on his collar was still there, and when she tried to let him go, he suddenly brought handcuffs out of his jacket, cuffing their right wrists together like in the music shop.

“You have sensitive wrists,” she said.

“And you have sensitive lips,” he responded, leaning in.

When his lips touched hers, she went still like it was their first.

But he pulled away almost immediately, looking at her eyes.

“Happy birthday,” he whispered, looking in her right eye, left eye, then back to the lips in a triangle.

“Skylaar.”

Her grip on his collar tightened till she became white-knuckled.

The sand beneath them felt warm as they leaned in at once.

“It’s the knot making us do this…” She whispered. “No strings attached.”

“I know, Falena,” He answered, his free hand slipping around her defined waist. “I know….”

Then, their mouths opened, and their lips sealed violently.
