“Kimberly gave me the herbal medicine bottle!!! It was Kimberly… Your damn sister!” He yelled.

Adeline’s heel stopped midair, and it’s like her leg went frozen cos she stopped moving too, and her eyes went so wide that they almost fell off their darn sockets.

“Wh…what did you just…spew?” Her voice was shaking as she asked the question, bringing her leg down finally.

Corey struggled to sit up on the ground, then he dragged himself to the wall with his butt.

He rested his back on the wall, his face unrecognizable as he smiled sadly, taking a glance at Adeline.

“Start talking, now!!! Kimberly did what? Are you trying to frame her now? Now that your game is up you wanna find a shortcut? I am not a damn fool Corey! I fell for your lies once but it won’t happen again!” She spat.

“I wouldn’t risk my life to call you out here just to lie to you. I’m wanted by the organization and if I’m caught right now, I’ll be killed on sight, so calm down, and listen to me” he replied, grunting as he spoke.

Adeline held her breaths as he shifted his posture on the wall, and then he started…

“You must have found out I was sent by The Pakhan to assassinate your family. For every mission I went, I was given a solid reason to kill, but for your parents, The Pakhan didn’t give me any reason, which was the beginning of the weirdness. He’s the only one who knows the reason, but I let it go and decided to get the job done anyways” he said.

Adeline sucked in a breath, her wig scattered all-over her face as a result of the beatings she did.

“I got the pictures of the whole family, including you and your sister. The plan was to enter you and make you fall for me, then kill your parents through you, but I swear to gawd, the plan changed the first day I set my eyes on you at the bungee tower. Ade you’re so f+çking beautiful, and that kiss…the kiss i shared with you was my first kiss…it…

“Straight to the point, or I’ll spill your blood again!” She snarled, pointing her gun at him.

“You fell for me so easily, and trust me I fell for you too. My feelings are real, which is why i begged The Pakhan to spare your parents, but he was so adamant about assassinating them. I couldn’t bring myself to kill the parents of the girl I love, so I planned to risk my life and tell you everything on your parents birthday.” He groaned, holding his tummy tighter.

“And then….” He said.

FLASHBACK, YEARS AGO IN COLORADO~COREY’S PLACE*

Unable to bring himself to tell them in person, Corey decided to write a letter.

He just finished wrapping the gift cake he was supposed to give Adeline’s parents, and he folded the letter, inserting it into the cake.

When they cut it, they’d see it and read it, and they’d escape from Colorado.

He was about to leave the house when his phone rang.

It’s Erik calling.

“Hello, boss” he picked hesitantly.

“You’re taking too long, and this is so unlike you, Corey. It’s been two months in Colorado! Two long months! Are the Wilson couple that hard to eliminate?” Erik’s voice came.

“I’m doing the job today, I promise” Corey said under his breath.

“Make it quick, and return to Russia tomorrow… unfailingly” Erik ordered.

“Yes, boss” Corey replied and hung up.

He has no plans to go back to Russia anyways. Once he delivers the cake, he’d escape to somewhere like India or Morocco to start a new life away from Erik.

He carried the cake and stepped out of the house, but he was surprised to meet Kimberly in front of the house, waiting with a wrapped bottle.

“Hey Kimmy! Is the party on already?” He cheerfully said.

“Kinda, but I can to give you this” Kimberly replied, handing him the bottle.

“What’s this?”

“Adeline actually loves people who care a lot about her parents. It’s herbal medicine, and watch as she brightens up when you give him this to gift to our parents” Kimberly smiled.

“For real? Thanks!” Corey hugged her happily.

“It’s my pleasure, and I’ll see you at the party. Need to go get confetti at the store” she waved, and Corey replied with a nod as she left.

BACK TO THE PRESENT*

“I handed you the bottle without confirming, and that was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done all my life” Corey muttered, and Adeline staggered.

“Kimberly did it because she saw your parents will. All their investments were willed to your name, and she couldn’t take it. Actually, she was…

“She was adopted. Kimberly is my…is my adopted sister” Adeline muttered, feeling breathless and running insane on a spot.

“You knew of the adoption?” Corey said shockingly, and when Adeline tried talking again, she felt her chest constricting.

She felt like throwing up, and she quickly rushed to the cemented rails, resting on it before attempting to vomit, but nothing came out.

She only retched, coughing slightly as tears came out of her eyes.

Now everything has started making sense.

The injections she took in Colorado to stop her menses… Kimberly was the reason it didn’t work…

Cos it’s fake.

Kimberly knowingly told her to come here disguised as a boy to get her killed.

That was her plan all along.

Her parents weren’t enough, but she had to attempt killing her too?

This is too bitter a pill to swallow.

Adeline held the rails so very tight, her fingers shaking on them as more tears escaped her hot eyes.

The dead bodies of her parents displayed in front of her again like a dread dream, and she took a trip to the past, to that gory birthday.

FLASHBACK*

Adeline appeared at the threshold with the cake and wrapped bottle in hand, and she broke into a smile when she saw the party is ongoing already.

Corey only dropped the gifts for her with the promise that he’d join her at the party soon.

He needed to go somewhere, so she just agreed to come ahead of him.

She retrieved her phone and texted him.

Adeline: You have just ten minutes to get here. Else, you won’t be getting any kiss today.

She smiled and pocketed her phone before going inside.

“Adele you’re finally here!” Her mother beamed.

“Yeah… Look what your son-in-law got you” she replied, setting the cake and bottle on the table before hugging her dad.

The mute man gave her a deep forehead kiss, then Mrs. Wilson took the bottle.

“What’s in it?” She shook it.

“Herbal medicine,for your backache. Isn’t he so caring?” Adeline sweetly said.

“I know I have the best son-in-law. Why isn’t he here yet?” Mr. Wilson signed.

“He’ll meet up soon, but enjoy the party for now” Adeline replied and quickly went to the kitchen to get cups.

She unwrapped the bottle and poured the brown liquid into two cups for the two.

They took their different cups and gulped the medicine at once.

“Feels refreshing” Mrs. Wilson belched.

“Give me more” Mr. Wilson signed, and Adeline poured more for the two.

“Where’s Kimberly?” She asked when she noticed she’s not in the small crowd.

“Probably in her room, wearing makeup” Mrs. Wilson shrugged.

“I’ll go get her before we cut the cake” Adeline said and rushed in.

She met Kimberly in front of her dressing mirror for real,.. she’s wearing makeup.

“Mum was right” Adeline grinned, entering the room.

“Thank gawd you’re here, help with my eye pencil” Kimberly said.

“You taught me how to wear makeup and now you’re telling me to help you?” Adeline laughed.

“Don’t be silly…you draw brows better than me” Kimberly chuckled, and Adeline took the pencil.

She was about to start sharpening it when they heard screams outside.

“Jesus!” Kimberly spranged up.

“Mr. Wilson!”

“Mrs. Wilson!!”

“Mr. Wilson!!!’

The screams made the two girls run out of the room, and the scene they met was beyond horrifying.

The couple are vomiting their own intestines!

The poison actually severed their intestines to pieces inside them, and they’ve almost vomited every organ except the heart.

Their bodies were already lying in the pool of their hit blood, surrounded by piles of their blended intestines.

The bottle of medicine was lying between them. They had drank it all.

“Mum! Dad!” Kimberly ran crazily to them.

Adeline fell on her knees, and her universe went dilapidated right in front of her, then it came crashing on her head.

“Dad!!!!!!!!! Mum!!!!!!!!!” She yelled till blood escaped her nose, and as the cops came in for her arrest, she couldn’t even fight it.

She was powerless and hopeless as she was taken away, and from there, ste ended in jail.

BACK TO THE PRESENT*

Adeline left the rails and sat on the ground, shaking as grief descended on her again.

Her head is in ruins right now.

She might just run mad!

“I haven’t even left Colorado before I heard the news, and I tried my best to get you out, but I had no connections in that country believe me. I found out about Kimberly’s plan, and immediately she took your parents investment of 36 million dollars from the bank, I stole it from her and came back to Russia. She didn’t come to Russia for revenge, Ade. She came in search of me, but unluckily for her, I was already out of the clan cos I got framed again. I could have killed her cos I had a lot of opportunities, but I wanted you to do it yourself” Corey explained.

Adeline couldn’t even say anything anymore. She continued sitting, crying slowly and feeling so damn devastated.

Corey pushed himself up to his feet, then he dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a card.

He squatted in front of her and took her right hand, dropping it inside.

“Your parents money is inside the account, and I’ll text you the pin. You deserve to live well, and leave the clan. You can’t leave without having your memories wiped, but if you need help to leave with your memories intact, I’ll help you” he said.

Adeline hiccupped, resting her head in the wall.

“Believe me, Ade. You need to leave the clan as soon as possible. The coming future war is not a joke, and blood will flow. Also, Madden is not someone you can fall for. He destroys everything he touches, and his secrets are too dark. Don’t fall for the devil” he finalized and stood.

He was staggering weakly as he started walking down the pavement.

“Why did you let me beat you then? Why didn’t you fight back?” Adeline spoke up.

“I deserved it” he replied, turning back.

“And you’re wanted by the organization, but you’re in Russia without getting caught? That only means someone powerful is protecting you” she said again.

“Maybe” he smiled.

“And why did The Pakhan order you to assassinate my parents in the first place?” She asked.

“Like I said,I don’t know. Only The Pakhan himself knows, but whatever the reason is, it’ll be huge” he replied.

Adeline turned her face away from him, and he rounded the corner, leaving completely.

Adeline sniffled, shutting her eyes and resting her head back on the wall.
