Grand Finale: Tribe Rules
Jide and Elena followed the High Priest into the deepest shadows of the cave. The air was heavy and still. The only sound was the soft tapping of the Priest’s wooden staff on the floor. They reached a small, quiet corner of the hall where a large object stood. It was covered with a piece of dark, dusty cloth. The High Priest reached out with a trembling hand and pulled the cloth away. Underneath was a giant mirror. It was not a normal mirror made of glass. The frame was made of twisted black metal, and the surface did not show their faces. Instead, the surface of the mirror was swirling with a thick gray mist.
Look into the glass, the High Priest said. His voice was like the rustle of dry grass. It will show you the path you have chosen.
Jide and Elena stepped closer. They held hands so tightly that their knuckles turned white. As they looked, the gray mist inside the mirror began to clear. They saw a house. It was their big, beautiful house in the valley. It was the house Jide had built with his own hands using the strongest wood and the finest stones. But in the mirror, the house looked different. It was standing tall and proud, but it was covered in thick, dry vines. The vines looked like long, hungry fingers wrapping around the walls. There were no flowers in the garden anymore. The bright lilies and the red roses were gone. The green grass had turned into brown dust.
Then, the mirror showed the inside of the house. They saw the great hall where they usually ate their dinner. They saw two people sitting on the golden chairs. It was Jide and Elena, but they were very old. Jide’s hair was as white as the clouds on the mountain. Elena’s face was full of deep lines. They were wearing their finest silk clothes and their heavy gold jewelry. But they were not laughing. They were not even talking. They were just sitting there in the big, silent room. The five bedrooms were still empty. The wooden toys Jide had carved were still sitting on the shelves, covered in thick layers of dust. They were still alone. There were no children to run through the halls. There were no grandchildren to sit on their laps. The house was a palace of gold, but it was also a palace of silence.
Elena let out a soft cry and leaned her head against Jide’s shoulder. She could not bear to look at the lonely old woman in the mirror. Jide felt a cold knot in his stomach. He realized that this was not just a dream. This was the future they had bought with their choices.
The High Priest spoke one last time. His words were slow and heavy, like stones falling into a deep well. You cannot change what was done by the ancestors, and you cannot build a future by ignoring the past. You thought you could run away from the history of your people. You thought that if you moved far away enough, the rules would not matter. You chose your own way, Jide. You followed your heart, and you have your Golden Harvest of wealth. You have your gold, your silver, and your big white house. But the harvest of the heart requires more than just love. It requires the blessing of the roots. Without the blessing of your father and mother, your tree can never grow fruit. You have all the riches of the world, but the one thing you want most is the one thing you can never have.
Jide looked at the High Priest. Is there truly no way to fix the blood? he asked. His voice was a whisper.
The High Priest shook his head slowly. The curse was made of hate that lasted for hundreds of years. You cannot wash away centuries of blood with a few years of love. You can live in peace together, but your story ends with you. The line is broken.
Jide and Elena stood in the silence for a long time. The thousands of candles in the hall began to flicker and grow dim. The red light faded away, replaced by the soft glow of the blue water in the clay bowl. They knew there was nothing more to say. They had found the truth, even if the truth was a heavy burden to carry. They turned away from the mirror and the High Priest. They walked back through the giant stone door and out into the cold purple air of the mountain.
They walked down the mountain in silence. The path was still steep and the rocks were still sharp, but they did not seem to mind as much anymore. They did not fight about the news they had heard. They did not blame each other for the empty rooms. They knew that they had both made the choice to leave their homes together. They knew that their love was real, even if it could not break the ancient curse. Jide helped Elena over the big logs, and Elena wiped the dust from Jide’s face. They were a team, and they were all they had.
When they finally reached their big white house in the valley, the sun was coming up. The light of the morning made the house look very beautiful. Jide looked at the fields of empty corn and the wheat that turned to dust. He did not feel angry anymore. He felt a strange kind of peace. He realized that he could not change the past, but he could choose how to live his life now.
Jide and Elena lived out the rest of their days in the Golden Harvest. They stayed in their big house, and they continued to work hard. Jide became even more successful as a trader. He brought new things to the valley from far away lands. But they did not keep all the money for themselves. They became very kind to the people in the nearby villages. Whenever a family was hungry, Jide would send them bags of grain. Whenever a person was sick, Elena would bring them medicine and blankets.
They were especially kind to the village children. Even though they had no children of their own, their house was often filled with the sound of little voices. The children would come to the big white house to hear stories. Jide would sit on the porch and tell them about the Sun Tribe and the great wooden gates. Elena would show them how to plant flowers that did not turn black. They used their wealth to build a school and a small park for the children to play in. The people in the village loved them and called them the Uncle and Aunt of the valley.
They learned to be content with what they had. They stopped praying for a baby every night. Instead, they prayed for the strength to be good people. They found joy in the small things. They found joy in the taste of cool water, the warmth of the sun, and the sight of the birds flying over the hills. They still loved each other very much. Even when they were old and gray, like the people in the mirror, they would still hold hands while they watched the sunset. But they never forgot the lesson they had learned too late. Sometimes, when the house was very quiet at night, Jide would think about his father and mother. He hoped that they were happy, and he hoped that one day, the two tribes would find a way to be one people again.
The moral of the story is that we must always respect the history and the rules of those who came before us. Our parents and elders often see the dangers that we are too proud to notice. They have lived through the storms and they know where the rocks are hidden in the water. Jide thought he knew better than his father and mother. He thought that love was the only thing that mattered and that rules were just old stories. But he found out that some laws are stronger than human will. He found out that we are not just individuals living for today. We are part of a long line of people who came before us.
Golden Harvest teaches us that true wisdom is knowing that we are part of a much bigger story. To move forward in a good way, we must first understand where we came from. We must honor our roots so that our branches can grow strong and reach the sky. If we cut ourselves off from our family and our history, we might find success, but we might also find ourselves alone in a big, quiet house. Jide and Elena’s house stayed quiet until the very end. When they passed away, there was no one to take over the farm. The big white house eventually fell down, and the golden fields were taken back by the forest.
But their story did not die. The people in the villages told the story of the Prince and the Lady to their children. They told it to their grandchildren. The story traveled far and wide, crossing rivers and mountains. It reached the Sun Tribe and the Rain Tribe. It reminded every young person that the choices we make today have consequences that last for a long time. It taught them that the seeds we plant today are the fruits our children, and our history, must live with forever.
Jide and Elena’s story became a legend. It became a golden warning to all who think they can outrun the past. People would look at the ruins of the big house in the valley and remember the man who had everything but the one thing he needed. They would remember the woman who followed her heart but found a heavy chain. They would remember that while love is a beautiful thing, it must be built on a foundation of truth and respect for the world around us. And so, the rules of the tribes remained, written in the stars and in the blood of the people, a reminder that we are all connected to the earth and to each other.
Jide and Elena became very kind and helped the village children. Do you think this was their way of finding a new kind of "harvest of the heart"?
The High Priest said that "history is the ground you walk on." Do you think it is possible to respect your past while still making your own choices for the future?
If Jide and Elena had known about the curse at the very beginning, do you think they would have still run away together, or would they have stayed in their tribes?
What is the most important lesson you learned from this story about the relationship between parents and children?
The story ends by saying it became a "golden warning." Do you think the two tribes will ever learn to forgive each other because of what happened to Jide and Elena?
The story of "Tribe Rules" has come to a legendary end! Jide and Elena’s journey reminds us all that our roots matter and that the wisdom of our elders is a treasure we should never ignore. We hope this story touched your heart and gave you something to think about.
