Baby Mama

Episode Ten

Awusi walked into the hotel lobby with careful steps. She went straight to the receptionist and asked, “Please, is there anyone by the name Ama staying here?” The young lady at the counter shook her head and said politely, “No madam, no such person here.” Awusi looked straight into her eyes and smiled faintly. “Are you sure?” The receptionist insisted, “Nobody by that name.” Awusi opened her bag, dipped her hand inside, and brought out some money. She pressed it gently into the receptionist’s hand without another word.

Immediately, the receptionist’s expression changed. She leaned closer and whispered, “Room 206, second floor.” Awusi nodded quietly. “Thank you, my dear,” she said, adjusting her bag. She climbed the stairs slowly, her mind replaying everything she had read in the chats. At the top of the stairs, she paused and opened her phone camera. She made sure it was set to record before walking down the corridor. When she reached Room 206, she stood still, listening. She could hear faint voices inside. She took a deep breath, knocked twice, and said in a calm voice, “Room service.”

The door opened slowly, and to Awusi’s shock, Ama was the one who stood there. Ama was shocked. Before she could speak, Awusi lifted her phone and recorded her face clearly. Ama stammered, “What are you doing here?” But Awusi did not answer. Instead, she pushed the door open and entered the room. Her camera immediately captured the young man sitting carelessly on the bed with no shirt. Awusi pointed her phone at him and said loudly, “Good. I have caught you both today. This is the truth I came to see.” Ama froze, speechless and trembling.

Ama finally found her voice and shouted, “Awusi, why are you here? This is not what you think.” But Awusi laughed bitterly. “Not what I think? Should I remind you of the hotel name you wrote in your messages? Should I remind you of the 500,000 cedis you promised him? Ama, God has disgraced you.” The young man on the bed stood up and tried to cover himself with a blanket. “Madam please, I don’t want trouble,” he said nervously. But Awusi ignored him. She raised her phone high and said, “This video will speak louder than you.”

Awusi immediately dialed Kofi’s number. “Kofi, come to the hotel near the big church, Room 206. Come quickly,” she said before ending the call. Ama panicked. “No, please! Don’t call him. I can explain!” she begged, holding Awusi’s arm. But Awusi shook her off and continued recording. “You don’t need to explain to me. You will explain to my husband,” she said coldly. Within minutes, footsteps rushed down the corridor. Kofi entered the room and stood at the door, staring in shock. “Ama? What is this?” he asked, his voice breaking. The room was filled with heavy silence.

Ama fell on her knees immediately. “Kofi, please, forgive me. I will tell you everything,” she cried. Kofi’s face frowned. “Tell me now!” he shouted. Ama’s voice shook as she spoke. “The baby is not yours. I am sorry. After the first night you slept with me, I secretly took your liquid to the hospital for testing. They told me you cannot get a woman pregnant. I didn’t want to fail in my promise, so I found this man to make me pregnant. I planned to give you the child as yours.” Kofi staggered backward in disbelief.

Kofi covered his face with his hands. “So all this time, you were deceiving me? You brought this shame into my house?” he said with a shaky voice. Awusi stood quietly in one corner, recording everything, her face stern. Ama continued crying, “I only wanted to secure my future. I am sorry.” But Kofi shouted, “Leave! Get out of this room! I don’t want to see you again.” Ama stood up slowly, wiped her tears, and picked her bag. She looked at Awusi, then at Kofi, and walked out quietly with her head bowed. Her arrogance had finally ended.

When Ama left, the room was filled with silence. Kofi turned to Awusi, his eyes full of pain. “Forgive me, Awusi. I insulted you. I doubted you. I almost lost you because of this wicked girl,” he said with tears flowing freely. Awusi lowered her phone and walked closer. “Kofi, the truth has come out. That child is not yours. You must go to the hospital and treat yourself. Stop deceiving yourself. God will give us our own child.” Kofi held her hands and nodded slowly. “Yes, I will. Thank you for not giving up on me,” he whispered.

True to his word, Kofi went to the hospital days later. After several tests and treatment, the doctors assured him that his condition could be managed. He followed every instruction and took his medications faithfully. Three months passed quietly in the house. Ama’s memory faded gradually, and peace returned. One afternoon, Awusi entered the bathroom and stayed longer than usual. When she came out, her eyes were shining with tears. She held a small test strip in her hand. “Kofi!” she called out. He rushed into the room, and she showed it to him. “I am pregnant.”

Kofi froze, staring at her. “Pregnant? Truly?” he asked in disbelief. Awusi nodded, her tears rolling freely down her cheeks. “Yes, Kofi. God has done it for us. This one is yours.” Kofi dropped to his knees and lifted his hands, shouting, “Thank you, Lord! Thank you!” He stood up quickly, held Awusi tightly, and ki.ssed her forehead. “You are my joy, Awusi. You stood by me through everything. Now God has rewarded us.” Awusi smiled through her tears. The shame Ama brought had ended. The story of their sorrow was closed. A new chapter of joy had begun.

The End.
