The Breadwinner Episode Five

The time was 3:30pm and John was just coming back from his children's school. He had gone there to pick them up. His wife was not yet back from work when he left the house to the school. But when he walked into the building with his children, he was hearing Miriam's voice as she talked loudly with a man who John didn't know. Miriam and the man were in in the bedroom. When John and the children entered the living room, her voice became louder.

John then stylishly took the children to their room, served them food and instructed them to remain there until he comes to pick them up. He wanted to make sure they will not see the man who was with with their mother. He also didn't want them to hear all that their mother was saying, because she was saying terrible things. John walked back to the living room and went closer to the bedroom door and started eavesdropping.

"I told you that I don't have any other man in my life except you. I'm a single mother. My husband died six months ago and since then, I have been suffering with my children. Thank God that you came into my life to rescue us.

You are the love of my life and the best thing that has ever happened to me. Please, relax on my chest and enjoy yourself this afternoon. I want to cool your body and calm you down with my 'balloons." Miriam said to the man.

John was taken aback by the things his wife was vomiting. He wanted to kick the door open and attack the man but he decided not to.

"There's no need. My wife has left me a long time ago. I was the innocent one who was thinking I still had a wife. I think there's no need attacking her lover." John said to himself as he controlled his anger and continued eavesdropping.

"You are telling me there's no other man in your life, but I saw a large picture of you and your husband when I was entering the living room. I also saw the man with your children in another enlarged picture. I know I love you but I don't want you to decieve me and play with my heart. I really want to enjoy life with you but I want to know who that man is." The man asked Miriam with a not-so-serious voice. His voice was already getting weak because he was already looking at Miriam's enchanting assets.

"That man in the picture is not my husband. He is my elder brother. He came to live with us after the death of my husband, so the children got used to him since they were missing their dad so much. That was why we all agreed to take those pictures. But wait, don't you believe me? How are you thinking that I would keep my late husband's photos? My heart was broken when he passed away and till date, I still can't look at his pictures, not to talk of hanging them on the wall. I'm a single mother and I'm not decieving you my love." Miriam continued her lies.

John was no longer himself. Even though he was trying to control his emotional reaction and avoid any form of confrontation with the man enjoying his wife in the bedroom, he was finding it hand to stay calm. He has the spare key of the bedroom and he wanted to gently open the door and and speak to the man face to face.

"How can my wife declare me dead when I'm still alive? That is the height of it. That means she no longer has any regards for me. The man is busy enjoying my wife right inside my house. What has the world turned into? People no longer have regards for morals or the concequences of their actions. I will teach this man a lesson." John said as he left the doorstep and went to the kitchen.

When John got to the kitchen, he brought out a lot of fresh pepper. He poured the pepper into the mortar and pounded it very well. He then poured the pepper into a cup and mixed it with water.

"After today, this man will never touch another man's wife again. This is the last time he would be doing it. His eyes and all parts of his body will be testing this pepper. When I pour it on him, he will remember his birthday." John said to himself as he prepared to open the bedroom door. He had the cup of blended pepper in one hand and he was using his right hand to open the door. He heard interesting sounds coming from the bedroom and he quickly knew that the man in there had started browsing his wife's website. John was so sad and broken.

"This is terrible. My wife has no shame. How can she be doing this in our matrimonial bed? Is it still because I lost my job or it has always being in her plan to cheat? Well, this is the perfect time for me to strike. Today, I will show the two of you pepper." John said angrily.

He was almost opening the door when someone at knocked the main door leading to their living room. John left the bedroom door and went straight to the main door to know who was knocking. When he opened the door, John saw that it was his landlord.

"Mr John, don't even talk. Just enter back into the room, pack your property and your family and leave my house. I warned you and gave you enough time to pay the rent but you have failed. I give you 30 minutes to vacate the building." The landlord said.
