Pregnancy in Ward 10, Episode 13

"Officer, here is the man and woman I want you to arrest. The two of them had conspired to have me eliminated when I was hospitalized. I have evidence to back up the claim I just made. I have video recording to nail the two of them." Nikki said as soon as she and the policeman arrived in Duke's house.

"I'm glad I was able to come out alive courtesy of a cleaner who saw when he wanted to do it. If not for that cleaner, I would have died in the hospital in the hands of the person who called me his wife. He was the one who beat me until I landed in the hospital. He then lied to the hospital authorities that I was involved in a road mishap. I'm alive today thanks to this cleaner, Roland." Nikki said, pointing to Roland who was standing behind her. Duke, her former husband was standing with his new girlfriend who was ranting and telling Nikki that she was telling lies. Duke supported his girlfriend and made it known to the police officer that he was not at fault. He protested that he was the one who suffered injustice in the hands of Roland and Nikki and that he was going to seek redress in the law court.

"She is telling lies as my girlfriend here has said. She ran off with another man while she was still married to me. Imagine a wife getting pregnant for another man while still living under her husband's roof. Isn't that shameful? She ran off with this riff-raff standing here. I should have you locked up for violating my home and taking my wife from me." Duke said while wagging his finger at Roland threateningly.

"The mistake I made was not having the two of you arrested. What you committed was an abomination and our culture forbids it completely. I should start thinking of how to punish the two of you for what you did against me. Officer don't listen to this people. They are jokers. Instead of arresting me and my girlfriend, get them arrested." Duke said forcefully.

"Officer, I brought you here. I have every evidence needed to prosecute and send the two of them to jail. They planned to have me eliminated so that they can get married. I'm telling you that it was the hospital cleaner who saved me from death. I would not be standing here today if not for Roland. Yes, it is true that I got pregnant for him, but the material issue here is that I was in danger in the hands of the man I got married to. Get these two people arrested and make sure you lock them up properly because they constitute a danger to the society. "Nikki said, standing her grounds and insisting that the police officer should do the needful. All these while, Roland had kept calm. When everyone had finished talking, he put his hand in his pocket and whipped out his phone. He tapped it and played the video he recorded in the hospital where Duke was trying to eliminate Nikki when she was unconscious.

"Are you the one in this video or not? Because I did not just see you, I have a video evidence to prove that you did not want your wife to leave that hospital alive. This video also proves that she was not involved in any mishap. You put her in that condition. Yes, it is true that I got her pregnant, but I did it purposely to make sure she did not return to you as a wife because you never wanted her either. I'm glad she is out of your devilish grip and now, the law will put you where you belong. There is no way you will escape the heavy evidence against you. You are completely caged in this one and I'm glad the policeman is here to do his job." Roland said.

Duke was shocked to see the video in Roland's phone. He never knew he was recorded and that there was a heavy evidence against him and his new girlfriend. The policeman swung into action and arrested the two of them. Despite their protests, the two of them were whisked away and driven to the police station in a waiting police van. A week later, they were charged to court and they later sent to jail for three months.

"We won this battle. I can never believe I and you would be husband and wife one day. It is like a dream but it is true." Nikki said to Roland one evening a week after they finally got married. They waited for every storm to be over before they tied the knot in a court. They did not organize a big wedding. They just did something low-key but still meaningful.

"That is how life is. You don't know what would happen in the next minutes." Roland said. Nikki's pregnancy bump had grown very big and they were both cherishing it and imagining themselves as parents of twins.

"I suffered a great deal in the hands of my ex- husband. He did not love me and he did not want me to live a good life. I'm happy you came into my life Roland. Even if the circumstances were not normal, I'm glad I met someone like you. Thank you for standing by me and I know you will be a great father to our coming children." Nikki said as she hugged Roland tightly. They were in Roland's one room apartment as they had no money to pay for something bigger. They made up their minds to be happy in the one room until they can afford something bigger.

"I'm not rich. I'm surprised that a beautiful girl like you accepted to be with me. Each time I wake up, I look at you sleeping beside me, I'm always shocked that you belong to me. Thank you for accepting to do life with a poor boy like me." Roland said.

"Everything is not money. We will make money eventually. But now, allow me to enjoy the peace of mind I have. You are the best thing that has happened to me." Nikki said as they both fell asleep.
