Mirabel was leaving the rest room after when she saw Nicholas waiting for her by the door way.

Rolling her eyes at him, she turn to leave not wanting to speak to him but he had other thought in mind.

“Mirabel ” he called and she stop to stare at him.

“Can we talk” he pleaded.

“Have got nothing to talk about with you and besides, am keeping my new found friends waiting” she said referring to Justin and his friends which she left at the cafeteria with Joanna.

“Those new found friends can wait, we’ve got to talk about us” he stated.

“There’s no us Nicholas, if you can’t trust me then there’s definitely no us ” she said turning to leave but he pulled her back and hoisted her over his shoulder

“Put me down! Put me down Nicholas” she yelled even as she kept pounding his back fervently.

That didn’t deter him and it wasn’t until he was in his tent that he let her down gently.

“Are you crazy!” She yelled at him.

“Am sorry but it’s the only way to talk to you” he said holding her still when she made to move.

“We’ve got to talk but before I start, I need you to know that no matter what, I love you. It’s only been you Mirabel, you took my heart the first day I saw you and it’s been yours and will forever be yours ” he said slowly which got her standing still.

“Why are you telling me this when you are with Jessica” she said.

“Jessica doesn’t mean a thing to me, she’s just lottering around me due to the secret she knows, a secret am going to tell you now” he said moving away from her.

“What’s this secret? Is it bad?” Mirabel asked and he nodded.

“It all happened years ago and that was when I was in high school” Nicholas began slowly.

“I killed someone Mirabel, am a murderer” Nicholas added which got her gasping loud in shock.

“I was drunk, I was drunk on the night of the accident and while driving home, I ran into an elderly lady whom my father told me died on that very day. At first I wanted to confess and tell the police about every thing but then my father stopped me and with his influence I wasn’t thrown in jail but have always kept it in mind that am nothing but a murderer” he said starring at Mirabel only to see her eyes filled with contempt.

This is why he didn’t want to tell her, he would have preferred her being angry at him for ending things between them than to see the contempt and hate in her eyes.

“Jessica knew about it cause she had been a witness that night but my dad had payed her off and when we met again, she approached me with that thought in her. When I tried to end things with her , she threatened me with telling everyone about it and that’s why I stayed away from you cause I didn’t want you finding out but things got out of hand and here we are” he finished while she stood in silent.

“Aren’t you going to say anything?” He asked when her silence became unbearable.

“You know have always believed that people should own up to their mistakes no matter how bad it is. You should have done the right thing by owning up to your mistake. That lady was someone’s mother, someone’s sister , someone’s family which you took away from them ” Mirabel said as tears crept down her cheeks.

“I know and that thought have never left me, it’s always been haunting me. Am a murderer Mirabel, a freaking murderer ” he said and she nodded slowly.

“Am glad you know you are a murderer, a freaking murderer as you’ve put it ” she said looking at him coldly and with that said she left his tent.

Nicholas couldn’t do a thing but to let her go. Though it hurts to watch her leave, he has no choice but to. No one will one to date a murderer like him.
