” Don’t argue with me ” Tega said pointing at me and I frowned .

” Fine I’ve heard you ” I said and she stood up .

” You know what ? I’m super busy with the planning for Mara’s wedding . Can you help cook something please…” She asked and my jaws literally dropped .

” Tegs really ? I asked laughing.

” C’mon now ,are you not a wife material again ? She asked teasingly.

” That’s just your ticket to turning me into your personal chef ” I said and she burst out laughing.

” You’re my best friend Imani ,I don’t even have a boyfriend . You and Avy Should learn how to give me baby girl treatment not this …” She trailed .

” You’re scared of commitments Tega ,you would’ve gotten a boyfriend by now if you’re not a heartless heartbreaker ” I said and she raised her eyebrows in my direction.

” Ouch ” she said and I laughed .

“I’m serious Tegs . You’re a nice girl ,When you care about someone you give it your all .why then are you letting your past define you ? I asked threading the waters slowly .

” Don’t bring that up Imani ” she said pushing her glasses up.

” Really ? I asked and she sighed .

” Yes . Don’t get me wrong I do believe true love exists out there . Like you and Leon …and many others out there …” She trailed .

” then ? I asked with concern.

” I’m not interested ”

” Tega ” I called .

” Imani ” she answered back .

When she noticed I was getting too quiet she raised her eyebrows in my direction.

” Imani why are we even having this conversation ,I don’t need a man . I don’t want children ,I don’t want to get married .”

” I’m not a bad person ,it’s just the guys that come around have refused to understand that I’m not the marriage type . ” .

” So s*x ..Fun ? That’s it ? Once feelings get involved you’re out . Tega stop being a player it doesn’t suit you ”

” You’re a wedding planner , Cant you believe in love at least for once ? ” I asked sadly .

” Omo is like you ate well this afternoon ? I’m very hungry .I don’t have strength to talk about man ” she said in her nigerian accent as she walked out of the sitting room.

I sighed softly then bit my lower lip .

We ate dinner together in silence after I finished cooking .

I made a mental note, not to ask her about the past anymore, knowing how much she hated it .

Tega hasn’t had it nice while growing up.

But that’s a story for another day .

I left for my apartment , my phone rang as I made my way into her place .

I smiled immediately my eyes saw the caller ID.

“Hey my Jewel ” I said and he chuckled.

” You sound exhausted ” he said and I laughed.

” I am Exhausted , I’ve been outside since this afternoon” I said as I opened my door and walked in .

” Have you eaten ? I asked smiling .

” Yeah ” he said calmly.

” Erduardo took me out for lunch ” he explained.

” Awwwwwwww, you guys are giving brother goals ” I teased and he laughed.

” Still getting to know each other ,but I feel we missed out on a lot ” he said calmly.

” How was work today ? I asked and rubbed my forehead .

I felt really weak and a bit dizzy .

We talked for while before he ended the call because of a conference meeting .

Immediately my back hit the bed ,I fell asleep.

I groaned frustratedly in the middle of the night as I felt the urge to throw up .

Shifting my position on the bed ,my eyes opened immediately as I rushed to the bathroom to empty my stomach .

I splashed water on my face and sighed weakly.

I wonder what I ate ?

Rinsing my mouth with clean water ,I went back to the room to sit down on my bed .

Scrolling through my phone ,I felt the urge to puke again .

Rushing towards the bathroom ,I ended up puking just outside my bathroom .

Walking back to bed after cleaning up ,I bit my lower lip .

Making a mental note to get some drugs in the morning .

Maybe I ate something bad .

Have you seen your periods ? My mind asked immediately and I shook my head .

I’m not late on my periods ,Right ?

When did I see my periods last ? I rushed towards my phone to check my calendar .

”
Leon has killed me ” I muttered under my breath softly as I checked the date .

” I’m three days late ”

” Jesus ”

Should I call him up ?

I’m not pregnant ,why am I freaking out ?

The disapointed look in the eyes of my parents came to my mind and I shook my head immediately .

” It’s just fear getting the better of me , yes ,yes ” I muttered under my breath.

Mom thinks I’m still a virgin .

” You’re not a child” my mind mocked.

” That doesn’t mean I should get pregnant outside wedlock”

I’ve felt the pressure of marriage for years before I met Leon .

But this is Africa ,am I ready to face society .

My mom will kill me .

I’m not even ready to be a mother .

Different thoughts ran through my mind .

One thing I was sure of was the fact that I wasn’t ready for this .

The next day ,I couldn’t even leave the bed .

I was burning up ,I went in and out of the bathroom because I kept throwing up .

I was still in my Nightwear from the previous night .

Tega had to go shopping with one of her clients and Avy was not in the country.

Zuri was out of the equation ,she will freak out if she hears this .

I ordered pregnancy test and waited for the delivery.

It arrived after some time . I got into the bathroom and my heart pounded against my chest as I waited for the results .

Waiting for the results was the hardest thing I’ve ever done .

I should have been more careful ,my eyes stung with tears as different thoughts filled my mind .

Staring at the two pink lines on stick ,I covered my mouth as I burst into tears .

My head ached badly and I could feel my temperature get ten times worse than it already was .

I tried to text Tega and lay straight on the bed .

My door bell rang and I groaned frustratedly.

I don’t have the strength to even walk downstairs .

Wearing my room slippers,I decided to check who was at the door .

Immediately I opened the door ,I stared at him in shock .

” Chad ” I said in suprise.

” Imani ” he said flashing me a boyish smile.

” What are you doing here ? I asked tieing my robe properly.

” Told you I’d come visiting” he said and I frowned .

” I invited you for dinner Chad , I didn’t even give you my address ” i said suspiciously.

” It’s not hard to get your address ,you’re still friends with my sister Lucy ” he said and I cursed under my breath.

Lucy and I are still in talking terms even after my break up .

I still didn’t like the fact that she gave him my address without asking for my permission.

What was she thinking ?

Did she think her brother still had a chance with me or what .

I should never have invited him in the first place.

Tega made me see reasons and I changed my mind .

” Are you gonna keep me standing ? He asked playfully.

I moved away from the door letting him in .

” You look sick ,are you okay Imani ? He asked softly.

” I’m fine Chad” I said as I felt the urge to puke again .

” Escuse me ” I said rushing towards my visitors toilet .

My body shook visibly as I splashed water on my face .

I should call up someone from home before …” I stopped my trail of thoughts as my vision blurred .

Holding the handle of the door.

” Chad…” I called softly.

” Are you sure you’re okay Imani ? I heard him call from the sitting room.

I heard footsteps then his eyes was the last thing I saw then darkness.

🌿 LEONARDO

” Lover guy , It’s not even up to a week and you’re going after her ” Scarlett teased the moment I told her I was in Capetown .

I lied about being in a conference meeting the last time I talked to Imani .

I’m planning on taking things to the next level between the both of us.

I love her ,she loves me .

I see no reason why we should waste each other’s time any longer.

This distance has taught me a lot of things.

I want to make her my wife and shopping for this ring myself , further made me respect my decision.

” Sir are you stopping by the office or straight to your place ? Jeff asked.

” I’ll stop by my place first Jeff ” I said to Jeff who gave a nod .

My driver drove towards my place and I could feel the rush of excitement in my veins .

I’m not planning anything extravagant , I’ve been saying this infront of the mirror but it’s not working .

I’m gonna relax and just say it when the moment is right .

After arriving at my place ,I took a quick bath and changed into something comfortable.

I stopped by the mall to get her favorite chocolate bars and other snacks .

I bought some icecream and popcorns too .

I’m gonna watch her favorite movie with her tonight .

I didn’t tell the guys I was proposing ,I’m not even ready for their teasings.

I drove towards her place and packed my car outside.

” Goodevning ma ‘ I greeted her neighbor who ignored me like I wasn’t talking to her in the first place.

I shrugged and walked towards her apartment.

I smiled immediately my mind went over to the look of suprise that’s gonna grace her face .

I rang the bell.

” Coming ” I heard a male voice and frowned .

Am I in the right apartment ? I wondered as I moved backwards and stared at the door again .

I’m in the right apartment , we’ve talked about this before and I’m certain I’m in the right place.

He opened the door and in place of my girlfriend,was a dark skinned guy ,who looked like an athlete.

” Goodevning ” he said smiling.

He had an apron around his waist which further irritated me .

” Where’s Imani ? I asked calmly.

” Who is it Chad ? She asked from inside .

Chad ? She had a guy in her apartment .

Who’s this Chad ? Why am I just hearing about him .

She left Costa Rica in anger ,and after we patched things up ,she’s in her apartment with Chad who looks like he’s cooking for her .

I noticed he was wearing a Shirt ,he was in his singlet, showing every bit of manliness he possessed .

She appeared behind him clad in a big sweat shirt and room slippers.

” Sweet ” she muttered under her breath in shock .

” Oh ” the Chad guy muttered under her breath.

” Leon ” she called coming out of the apartment .

I dropped the stuffs and tucked both hands in my pocket.

” Let me explain ” she said camly .

” Escuse us ” I said to the guy .

” I have to go Imani ,take care of yourself . You can call me if …” He trailed .

” I’m here to help her you don’t need to worry about that ” I said cutting his sentence halfway.

” Leonardo” she called.

” That’s rude ” she said frowning.

The guy walked and out with a shirt and left her apartment.

” You didn’t tell me you were coming ” she said and I chuckled bitterly.

” So I’m supposed to announce my arrival anytime I’m coming to see my girlfriend ? Who the fvck was that ? I asked .

” He’s chad ” she muttered under her breath.

” Chadwin , Chadwick I don’t care . what’s your relationship ? I asked trying my best to control my anger .

“He could be my cousin Leon , why are you so protective ? She asked voice shaking at the edge.

” I should get going” I said bringing out my car keys .

” Leon ” she held my hand.

” I came all the way from Costa Rica to surprise you . What did I get in return ? Being called and over protective boyfriend and asked my reasons for not informing you of my arrival” I said walking towards the door.

” Chad is my Ex” she muttered under her breath.

” Your Ex ? Imani ” I asked and she bit her lower lip nervously.

” Sweet it’s not …” She trailed.

” Goodnight” I said making my way out of her apartment.

“Leon ” she called after me but I didn’t stop .

I knew Imani ,I trust her enough to know she will never cheat on me .

But the fact that all of this had to happen tonight was pissing me off big time .

She fvcking asked me why I didn’t tell her I was coming over .

I’ll give her the space she’s looking for.
