LATER IN THE NIGHT 🌃

Damon la-id on his be-d, staring into space. He couldn’t st©p thinking of the fact that Francis was dwelling in Stefan. He was darkness and couldn’t survive being close to light.

Damon got up from his be-d and walked to the window. Instead of thinking about Stefan, he decided to find Deanna. He turned into a gust of wind and the breeze blew him away.

Deanna was gradually nodding to sleep as she sat on a chair. It was almost midnight and the entire family had gone to be-d except Deanna, who had to finish knitting a pair of mitten and she was still on the first one. Damon appeared at the window in form of wind and gradually turned into human. He gazed at Deanna as she nodded to sleep.

“Lazy bones” he huffed and went in throu-gh the window in form of wind. Damon walked to Deanna in his human form then squ-atted before her.

“She’s a nerd” he sighed “I Jane nerds.. So disgusting that I’ll have to k!ssher”

Damon placed her head on the table carefully so she doesn’t wake. He gazed at the wool and turned them into two pairs of mittens.

Damon walked about in the room till Deanna suddenly stirred in her sleep. He paused and glanced at her as she stretched her muscles and yawned. Damon quic-kly turned to a gust of wind and let the breeze b!ow him out throu-gh the window. Deanna opened her eyes sluggishly. She took in a de-ep breath as she scratched her hair and froze. The air was h0t and sickly sweet with the odor of rotting garbage.

Deanna hurriedly shut the shutters. She returned to the table and was shocked to see two pairs of mittens on the table. She could recall that she was still on one when she dozed off.

How did she manage to knit in her sleep? Deanna wondered
“Don’t tell me I’ve got super powers now”

She packed up the mittens in a basket and went to be-d. No matter where the mittens c@m£ from, she was plea-sed that her burden had been lightened. She could now get a good night sleep.

THE NEXT MORNING ⛅

“Mom am off” Damon shouted running down the stairs with his satchel

“You have to wait for Stefan so you both can go together” Suzanne said

Damon rolled his eyes. That was the reason he was skipping breakfast. So he wouldn’t have to drive with Stefan. “Mom I’ve got something important to do as school this morning. The driver can bring Tracey and Stefan”
“Alright then” Suzanne reluctantly agreed then remembered “you haven’t had breakfast yet”

“Am skipping that today”
“Why? The food is delicious.. I prepared it myself”

“Then save it for lunch. But for now…” he paused and pe-cked Suzanne on his cheeks “am out” then he headed for the door

“May the good LORD protect you” Suzanne prayed too herself but Damon heard her and st©pped on his track. His eyes were dark and Cipher was taking control.

“Don’t ever say that again” He warned Suzanne and his voice rumbled like thun-der.

“Damon?!”

Damon changed to normal and faked a smile “I was just practice my role in the school drama for the last time. We’ll be going on stage together and I wanted to be sure am okay” Damon lied

Suzanne placed her hand on her beating che-st “what role are you pla-ying?”

Damon opened his mouth to talk but saw Stefan walking up to them then he said “am out” and he hurried out. He didn’t want to his mother to insist that he went with Stefan.

“What happened to your cousin?” Suzanne asked Stefan, whirling around to face him
“That’s his role in the school drama.. He’s such a great actor” Stefan replied

“Then what about his eyes? They were dark”

“he’s acting auntie, you don’t have to worry”

“If you say so” Suzanne shrugged then added “You uniform just arrived.. Go get dressed”

Stefan nodded then walked out with the uniform.

The car c@m£ to a halt before the hvge gate of Sparkles High. Stefan sat nervously at the backseat. He stared at the school building. It was 100 times bigger the one she attended in San Antonio and Sparkles was magnificent. The door to the backseat was held open for Stefan to come down. He countered three and got down from the car, summoning all the courage he had. The security bowed slightly then slammed the door shut. He got into the pas-s£nger seat and the driver drove off.

Stefan wore his backpack as he walked in throu-gh the gate. A ‘wow’ escapes herl-ips when she stepped into the school premises.

“This is paradise”
“Ohhh myyyyyyyy gosshhhhhh!!! Ohhh myyyyyyyy gosshhhhhh!!!” three girls standing at a corner squealed on seeing Stefan
“he’s insanely h0t” one of them said “I’ll make the first move” and towards Stefan
“Hi” she waves on getting to him

“Hi!” Stefan sounded less concerned

“Good morning.. am Amiee”
“Stefan”

“Such a cute name” Aimee complimented and her friends gave her a thumbs up from behind. Aimee giggled and said “you must be new here.. I’ll show you to the principal’s office” Aimee volunteered
“I.. uh.. can manage”

“let me do the favor.. pretty plea-se” she flvstered her lashes

Stefan chuckled “alright”
Aimee win-ked at her friends and waved at them as she Stefan to the principal’s office.

They got to the principal’s office and Stefan knocked on the door.

“I’ll see you later when you’re done with the principal” Aimee said “and don’t forget my name is Aimee” she added and walked out

A voice from inside the office asked Stefan in and he walked into the office.

“Good morning” Stefan greeted politely

“you must be Stefan Bennett— the transfer student” the principal said looking up from his desk
“yes sir”

“there are two transfer students so you’ll have to wait for the second person to arrive before I’ll call a teacher to introduce you to your clas-s” the principal said the pointed to a chair across the office “sit”
Stefan walked to the chair and sat down. Few minutes later, there was a knock on the door and the principal asked whoever it was in.

“Courtney Styles right?” the principal asked the girl who walked in

“yes” Courtney replied

The principal signalled Stefan to come forward then Stefan got up and walked to his table.

The principal placed a short call to a teacher then brou-ght out some printed papers.

“Here’s a copy of the school rules and regulations” the principal gave them a copy each “make sure you adhere to l the rules.. they are strictly followed”

He took two copies and gave them one each “a map round the school”

he gave them another printed paper each “your timetable. You’re both in s£nior year so I hope we don’t regret accepting you as transfer students” the principal stated

There was a knock on the door and a female teacher walked in almost immediately.

“Miss Betsy?!” The principal called. He introduced her to the students and vice versa. Then he instructed her to show them to their clas-s.

Miss Betsy led Stefan and Courtney to the homeroom of the grade 12 students. The clas-s was noisy and the students were throwing things at each other when they walked in. The students didn’t even acknowledge the pres£nce of Miss Betsy. They acted like they didn’t see her and continued with the noise till she called them to other.
“Quite?!!!” she bellowed and the noise died out “Good morning clas-s”

“Good morning Ms Betsy!”
“we’ve got two new students” Miss Betsy announced then turned to Stefan and Courtney “introduce yourself”
“am Courtney Styles” Courtney began

“Stefan Bennett”

“you ought to be really nice to them” Miss Betsy said and as-signed them to two empty seats at the back

“Stefan?!” Aimee called when he walked past her seat

“Hi Aimee”

“There’s a vacant seat beside me” Aimee said and looked at Damon who was seating beside her “this seat is supposed to be vacant”

“I guess it isn’t” Damon said and put his headphones on
“there’s a vacant seat at the back.. I’ll be okay there” Stefan said to Aimee and walked to the back

Courtney walked to Damon’s table where he was sitting with Aimee.

“stand up” Courtney ordered Aimee

“what? But I was here before you” Aimee protested
“just find a seat at the back and get your as-s off that one” Courtney spat out

“what’s wrong with you?” Damon yelled at Courtney
“Courtney Styles?!” Miss Betsy called “move to the seat at the back”

Courtney glared at Aimee “I’ll come back for you” and walked out

“Thanks for standing up for me” Aimee said to Damon

Damon scoffed “don’t thank me.. am not nice person”
“Damon?!” Miss Betsy called and Damon looked up “you’re in clas-s.. take off the headphones”

Damon huffed loudly and took off the n£¢klace to the surprise of everyone. He was the most rebellious student in the whole of Sparkles High and no teacher every tells number what to do.

“Alright clas-s” miss Betsy breathed out “Roll call will be at 8am.. see you guys then” and she walked out. The students shouted and resumed their shouts and pla-y.

“am nervous” Deanna said as Hilda, a cleaner in the school took her to the office of the school janitor.

“I was also nervous on my first day at work” Hilda said “but you don’t have to worry.. you’ve got me”

They got to the janitor’s office and walked out shortly after Deanna had been addressed and fully employed.

“your work starts now” Hilda said when they were outside the Janitor’s office
“I guess so” Deanna shrugged
“let’s go clean the pool house” Hilda said

“Hey?! Deanna!” Stefan called running up to them
“Stefan?!” Deanna called excitedly

“How did it go?”
“I got employed”
“am happy you did” Stefan smiled broadly

“So how’s your first day in school?” Deanna asked
“There’s a lot but I wouldn’t want to keep you waiting so we’ll talk later” Stefan replied
“we’ll be going now”

“see you later” Stefan waved and watched them walk out. Deanna couldn’t help but glance at Stefan as she walked out with Hilda. Stefan stood watching them till they were out of sight then he headed for his next clas-s.

“am super.. super.. happy right now” Aimee squealed and her two besties, Gina and Meryl screamed

“am seating next to the cutie, h0ttie, dude, who’s the president’s son and now I just made friends with the insanely h0t new guy” Aimee giggled
Gina and Meryl screamed “let’s celebr@te tonight”

“cool.. I’ll take you girls out” Aimee volunteered

“am so gonna love it” Gina and Meryl screamed

Courtney who was standing at a corner unnoticed scoffed “let’s so who gets happy at the end” she bit her lower l!p”it’s p@rty to your grave
