A Bet - S01 E02

Aubrey’s POV

I know you guys must be wondering why I didn’t defend myself earlier in school today.

The thing is I’m very weak to get into a fight with anyone not to talk of four girls and besides I don’t want to attra-ct attention to myself.

I’m learning Judo and Taekwondo so that I can start defending myself but I just started recently and I’m nowhere close to perfect.

There’s a secret about me that no one except my family and of course my best friend Sam knows about and I want it to remain a secret until I finish college.

I calmed down few minutes after Samantha said soothing words to console me.

I don’t know what I did to deserve a friend like her, she un-derstands me more than I can ever un-derstand myself

“Thanks Sam. You’re the best and I don’t know what I’d have done without you”

“Oh come on, what are friends for? I’m always here for you so don’t worry and just relax okay?”

“Alright I’ll be back”

I freshened up and changed my clothes before I went to my study with Samantha.

Usually when I come back from school, I’ll freshen up and take a nap for about an hour in order to regain my lost strength before I do my homework.

But it’s different now, there’s no time to rest anymore because I now have to do five people’s work including my own and the a-ssignment we were given today is about 3.

If my calculations are right, it means I’ll have to do 15 a-ssignments in total and I can’t right the same answer for everything.

Thinking about that alone is giving me headache.

“Why aren’t you taking a nap as usual?” Sam asked

“Well have you forgotten I’m now a school maid? I have to do their a-ssignments too so there’s no time for a nap”

“Really? You’re going to break down at this rate. You and I know you have a lot of things to do at night and you’re going to be really stressed in the morning.

Okay let’s do it like this. You’ll take a nap for 30 minutes or an hour while I help you to do some of the work”

“No no, it’s not happening. You’ve done a lot for me already, besides I don’t know when I’m going to wake up if I sleep now”

“Don’t worry about that, I’ll wake you up”

“No, I don’t trust you when it comes to things like this. I’m sure you won’t wake me up”

“I promise to wake you up, please”, she said giving me her irresistible puppy face

“Okay but are you sure you’ll wake me up?”

“Cross my heart”

“Alright. Thanks bestest”

Samantha’s POV

I only promised to wake her up so that she can sleep, she really needs to rest.

Besides if I wake her up it means I’m the worst friend in the universe so I’ll just leave her to wake up on her own.

I started with Aubrey’s a-ssignment first because she’s the most important to me.

I know Khloe is the leader among those four girls and I’d have loved to do hers last but who knows what she’ll do to Aubrey tomorrow if we are unable to finish the work.

2 hours later

I’ve been busy with the a-ssignment for two hours straight without resting for even a nanosecond, I can’t believe this is what my poor Aubrey would have done.

I’m left with just one person’s a-ssignment and I think I’ll be throu-ghwithin 30 minutes but Aubrey is still sleeping.

I guess she must be really tired, she should take her time to rest.

Not long after I heard the sound of someone running towards the study and I knew instantly that it was Aubrey.

I quickly focused my gaze on the book and pretend to be engrossed in it.

“Samantha what do you think you’re doing?” I heard Aubrey ask but I pretended not to hear her.

“Samantha! Samantha!! Samantha!!!”

“Ohh Aubrey you’re awake and why were you screaming my name?”

“Well I’ve been calling your name for sometime now but you seem to be so carried away with what you’re doing”

“Huh sorry about that. So is it thirty minutes already?”

“That’s what I was about asking you. You promised to wake me up within thirty minutes but it’s over two hours now and you didn’t wake me. Why?”

“What are you saying? It’s not even up to thirty minutes so why are you saying two hours?” I said trying to feign ignorance but Aubrey being who she is saw throu-ghmy act already.

“Saaaaam” she drawed

“Fine fine, I just wanted you to rest. You seemed really stressed and I know you need more than enough rest. Don’t you feel better now?”

“Of course I feel better but it was at your expense. You shouldn’t have done that, I feel really guilty now for making you overwork yourself”

“You don’t have to feel bad. We’re best friends and if I don’t help you when you need my help, it means I’m not a true friend so just forget it”

“Okay thanks, I’ll take it from here”

“No no I’m almost done already, let me just finish it up”

“Wow so fast? Are you sure you did it perfectly without writing the same answers for us?”

“Don’t you trust your friend? Besides if it were you, you would have finished the work even though you use left so don’t act surprised”

Yeah Aubrey uses left and she’s pretty good with it

“Okay then, let me prepare something for us to eat” , she said standing up

“Yeah I’d really love that. I’ve missed your cooking” I winked at her making her blus-h. Aubrey is a great cook, she’s good at almost everything

“Be fast o, your boss is famished” I said jokingly and we both laughed

I’m lucky to have a really great friend.
