"She is the One, so she has the beacons," Makala called back.

"What are the beacons?" I asked, interrupting again.

"Nothing to worry about," Makala said.

"But are the beacons ready?" Bathory asked.

"We're getting to that..." Makala said with a sigh.

"And has the Two been made the Two?"

"We were still getting to that as well," Alura said.

"Then why are you here?" Bathory said. "Come back when they are ready."

"Things are different then they used to be, Makala said. "People are different. They're softer, kinder, more sophisticated. They want to know what they are getting in to rather than blindly following creatures who seem to have supernatural traits."

"Plus," Alura added, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "It's probably better they start getting used to you now, what with your delightful personality and kind disposition."

Suddenly the shadow up on the balcony above us jumped and - spread its wings? All of us leapt back against the wall as Bathory lit on the floor in the center of the chamber next to the statues.

Of course, she had the usual phallite shape wide bust, wide hips, narrow waist, big labia, and in her case, a huge cock instead of a clit. But the rest of her was anything but standard.

Her scaled skin was deep, deep red, and black veins criss-crossed

her entire body under her scales. Her hair was black and giant

black ram's horns not unlike like Makala's white ones sprouted

from her head. Her eyes glowed red. Her scales were interrupted

by three patches of soft black fur. One patch started just above her

cock and ran in a strip about two inches wide up past her naval, up

between her breasts, and then expanded into a large diamond

shape between her cleavage and her throat. She also had thick

strips of soft fur on her sides that ran from her armpits down to

her hips.

Her breasts, carrying the usual phallite shape, had black veins that pulsed and throbbed all around them. Her nipples were long and black and pulsed in time with the thick veins standing out against her scales all around her pendulous mammaries.

But most shocking of all were the leathery bat wings that sprouted from her shoulder blades and arced behind her.

"Whoa," I said.

"Yeah, whoa," Clementina said, standing next to me.

Bathory looked us over, then her eyes lit on me. She flexed her wings twice as her eyes took me in, strafing down my body, studying my face, my breasts, my cock which was still coated in pink slime from the stalk.

"Hmm," she said.

She turned and her eyes locked on Olympia, immediately looking straight at her cock.

"This is the Two?" Bathory asked.

"She is," said Makala.

"She is not ready, the One is not ready. We are not ready to raise the Citadel. You know better than this, Makala. You as well, Alura. You know the rules."

"Come off it," Alura interrupted. "We know the difference between the rules that were made by the gods, and the rules that were just made by a bunch of old horny guys who think they know the will of the gods. There are rules about what it takes to raise the Citadel, but there are no rules from the gods that say that Miss Bathory the high-and-mighty can't be awoken from her beauty sleep until all preparations are ready."

There was a long, uncomfortable silence. Us mere mortals were hovering back, trying to remain unobtrusive while the spirits sorted out their dogma. Then Bathory laughed.

"My apologies to you and to everyone for the offense." she made a sweeping gesture encompassing all of us, and then bowed low enough that her engorged, veiny tits almost brushed the floor. "I am Bathory, the Guardian of the Citadel."

Introductions were made all around, then Bathory turned to us mere mortals who were still trying to blend into the walls while the spirits had their debate. She was about to speak when Clementina suddenly went "Oh!" and a grinding sound came from a slightly- different-colored section of the chamber floor. That section slid

back, revealing stone stairs going down into a chamber below.

Alura glared at Clementina, then looked at the floor and shook her head. "Here we go..." she said softly.

"It was an accident," Clementina said, mollified, turning and looking at the stone button she had inadvertently bumped. "I was Just leaning against the wall...sorry..."

Alura and Makala were both looking at the floor, uncomfortably. I had a feeling we were about to get into another dogma argument among the spirits.

I was right.

Bathory, her eyes burning red, looked over at us humans. Her face went from bemusement, to surprise, then to annoyance. She turned to her two fellow spirits who suddenly seemed to be trying to look unobtrusive.

"They didn't know?" Bathory asked.

Neither Alura or Makala answered.

Bathory sneered. "Fucking hell, you two really are amazing. When were you going to tell them about the treasure room?"

"The pace of the world's decline has accelerated," Makala said. "We may not have time to wait another generation or two for another One. This entire existence is on the verge of collapse - us with it. This multiverse bubble is critical to many others. We must get it right this time. Too much depends on us."

"So you think the gods would approve of lying to the One and her cohorts?"

"We didn't lie, exactly," Alura said, still looking down. "We just sort of omitted an itty-bitty little point"

The sneer on Bathory's face got so intense I thought she was going to burst into flames. "Fucking hell, this whole fucking thing is about to come off the rails. Nice work, bitches."

Makala had had enough. She stepped forward angrily and planted her finger in the fur between Bathory's breasts, pushing hard enough that the red-scaled Guardian took a step backwards.

"Look bitch, while you've been up there having your nice little wet dreams, we've been down here trying to guide these skittish mortals through their paces. We've been outside, we've seen the state of the world. Humans have advanced tech like we haven't seen in this multiverse cluster before. They have discovered nuclear weapons. They have worked out instantaneous communications. They have made advanced electronics. People today are so overwhelmed by inputs they are easily distracted - and we don't need any more distractions."

"So you lied or, excuse me omitted key information," Bathory replied, unfazed by the outburst.

"Don't judge, bitch," Makala sneered back at her. "You've got a part to play, now fucking play it."

"Fine, but one of us needs to tell these 'skittish mortals-your words what's downstairs before we raise the Citadel."

There was a long, uncomfortable silence, at the end of which Bathory turned to us humans who were now even more nervous. than we had been before.

"On behalf of my comrades, I apologize," Bathory said. "Let's go downstairs and have a look around, shall we?"

She moved to the stone steps and started down. Makala was shaking with rage, Alura was trying to calm her. Us humans were unsure what to do. From below we heard Bathory's voice echoing up the stairs.

"We aren't raising the Citadel until you know what's down here," she said. "So let's get this shit over with so either we can move forward or I can go back to sleep."

Alura gestured vaguely at the stairs while still talking softly to Makala. I crept to the steps and started down, followed by the others.

The chamber below was incredible. It was about the size of the room above. The walls were interspersed with glowing pink flesh mounds, casting a light around the room. The parts of the wall that weren't pink were plated gold that shone in the light.

Piled everywhere around the chamber was gold and jewels. It was breathtaking. I walked to a pile of gold coins and picked up a handful.

"These look like pictures I've seen of Roman coins - but they look new.

"This is ancient ceremonial Egyptian armor," Olympia said from another pile. "It's in practically mint condition."
