The Rejected Stone, Episode Six

"I know it's you Titi. You can't fool me because I have lived with you for the past ten years and I know exactly how your body feels. Tell me, what are you doing here? You must be out of your mind to think that you can deceive me because it is night? What exactly are you doing here? And where is my new wife? I hope you have not harmed her in any way?" Madu asked Titi who by then had removed her clothes and covered herself with the bed clothe. Despite what Madu was saying, she was hoping for a positive result, using her woman power. She knows exactly how Madu likes it and she intends to exploit his weak points. But first, she tries to use verbal persuasion.

"Calm down Madu. Remember, before the new wife came in, I was the one who gave you happiness in this room. I was the one who first shared this bed with you. I knew the day this bed was bought. I personally used my money to buy these pillows. Why are you being rude to me simply because you brought an intruder into the house? Why are you treating me like a common housemaid? I have come a long way with you and I don't deserve this shabby treatment. Please, calm down and listen to what I have to say. I'm still your wife weather you like it or not. "Titi said.

"What do you have to say? What do you want me to listen to? And besides, you have not answered my question. Where is my new wife and how did you come into this room? Why did she allow you?" Madu asked again. His voice was growing louder and louder and Titi was becoming embarrassed.

"Your so called wife is safe, nothing has happened to her. I'm your authentic wife and I don't need any permission to enter my matrimonial room. Or is it because I have been calm all these while? Please listen to me, I have not come here to exchange banter with you. I just want a simple favour." Titi said.

"What favour do you want? Be fast about everything you want to say because want to sleep. I'm tired and I still have to go to work tomorrow." Madu said. Titi started robbing her left hand on his shoulder, telling him how much she has missed him over the past three days. He began to calm down. The truth is that even Madu had missed Titi but has refused to admit it. He has been struggling to keep Titi out of his mind all to no avail. Were it not for his ego, he would have gone to Titi's room before she came. Secretly in his mind, he was happy that Titi came to the room.

"I want to get pregnant." Titi said without mincing words.

"You have not been able to get pregnant for the past ten years. What makes you think you can get pregnant now?" Madu asked.

"My heart tells me it is time for God to bless me with a child and I need you to support me as your wife. I have been going through a particular treatment which has been reported to be very effective. It has worked for many barren women and I'm sure it would work for me as well. All need is for you to deposit your liquid fertilizer. Please, don't deny me this opportunity. I'm currently in my most fertile moment. That is why I'm here this night." Titi said with a tender voice.

"Honestly, Titi, I'm tired. We have been to many places for treatment. I have heard this kind of promises before and there was no positive outcome. I think you should just give up and rest. Madu said. His voice was not that strong because inwardly, he earnestly wants to touch Titi, but he first of all wants to play hard to get to protect his ego.

"I know we have tried many things but I'm sure this one will work. Please don't deny me this opportunity." Titi pleaded.

"I'm not doing it and I'm not touching you. I think you should leave now." Madu said.

"Well, if you chase me away, I will go out there and do it with another man and get pregnant." Titi replied courageously.

"You will do no such thing." Madu said.

"Yes I will. If you push me out of this room tonight without touching me as your wife, I will run into the arms of another man in the street. Try me and see." Titi remarked. He is now very

angry. "Besides, are you aware that your new wife is pregnant?" Titi asked.

"That is not possible. She has just spent three days in this house. Who got her pregnant? And how did you know that?" Madu asked. She stood up from the bed and Titi did the same.

"I know because I'm a nurse. And by the way, she confessed to me that the baby is not yours. So, if you want, keep fooling yourself that you have a new wife. A new wife who came into your house with another man's child. You better open your eyes and be wise." Titi said. She took her clothes and started leaving the room but Madu held her back and threw her to the bed. He had missed her and he could not beat around the bush anymore. They made love.

When they were done, they started talking calmly the way they used to do in the past.

"About the new wife, are you sure of what you were telling me? Are you sure she is pregnant?" Madu asked Titi.

"Yes, and the baby is not yours." Titi said.

"Alright, I want us to keep this as a secret. Act as if you have not told me and I will also act as if I don't know anything about the pregnancy. I will take her by surprise. By the time I'm done with her, she will leave the house for us." Madu said.
