I Got You: Kay's P.O.V ... I Have My Reasons

Kay's P.O.V

"Do you ... Do you like honey chicken? I can't eat all of this," I lied through my teeth. My heart was racing as I began to mentally slap myself for even dreaming of asking Christopher what was seconds from coming out of my lips. For sure if I asked him my real question he would be silent and then suggest taking me home with a lie that it was getting late. It was something he would always do years ago. But here I was about to ask bluntly if he...

"What did you really want to ask?" Christopher questioned as his eyes bore into me.

"T-That ... Was it." I said with a smile that I knew didn't reach my eyes. The expression that was planted on his face showed me that he knew I was lying.

Stuffing chicken into my small mouth I looked over the cliff at the city below, hoping he would just leave it alone.

"I am not going to stop bugging you until you ask me what was really on your mind moments ago," he said to me. I sighed and sat down the container of food. My hands fell in my lap as I glanced over and up at him.

"... Can you just drop it?! I decided not to ask you for a reason! Now either leave it alone or take me home," I tried to say in a stern voice. Christopher studied me for a second before standing up. I furrowed my eyebrows at him in confusion. "What are you doing?" I quizzed. Standing in front of me, he looked down at my sitting figure.

"I am getting up and about to put the food away so I can take you home," he admitted and then bent down to collect the food.

"Wait? What?!" His head turned and looked at me with a straight face.

"You said that if I wouldn't drop it that I might as well take you home, and that is the thing Kay ... I will not drop the wonder of what your question was. So, if you don't want to hear me ask over and over, it is wise for me to give you a lift home," he spoke and not once did his voice crack which showed me he was serious.

Anger started to boil inside of me, "I can't tell you because if I do you will avoid the answer and make some excuse to take me home!" I yelled at him.

"How do you know I will do that? You haven't even asked the question.”

"Fine, you want me to ask?!"

"Yes!" At this point we were both outraged and shouting at each other and in the heat of my anger I asked it:

"Do you love me?!" All traces of anger fled his face and a blank, expressionless look replaced it. I began to hear crickets and the sound of flies swarming around in the air. It officially was dead silent and I knew it wouldn't change. Bending down, I picked up Christopher's car keys and looked over at him.

"I am just going to go to the car and wait ... Take your time," with that I walked away and was not surprised that Christopher didn't call after me.

I began my slow hike down the cliff trail towards the car. I must have not been half way down when I heard the sound of a twig breaking behind me. I stopped walking and turned around, expecting to see Christopher. But when I twisted around I was faced with the uphill trail that I just walked down. Right then I knew someone was watching me.

"Christopher?! Come out! I know you are out there!" I called out knowing he was just joking around to lighten the tension that was bound to be between us.

After a second of not seeing or hearing him, I frantically let my eyes scan the forest around me. The feeling of someone watching me didn't fade.

Shrugging it off, I continued downward towards the car. Not minutes later a sound of a twig once again breaking behind me caught my attention. I stopped and my breathing became heavy as fear shank in.

I knew that if I turned around this time that I would be faced with someone because I could hear the sound of whoever it was breathing behind me. Their body heat was slightly making my back warm, proving they were right behind me, mere inches in fact.

Slowly I turned and saw...

"Damn you Christopher! You scared the shit out of me!" I shrieked when I turned and saw it was him. He raised an eyebrow at me.

"How did I scare you? I was calling your name when I reached you, yet you were just standing still on the trail and looked as off you were in a daze," he said.

"I just thought ... Never mind let’s get to the car," I spoke as the feeling of watchful eyes on us come over me, again.

The car ride to my house was filled with uncomfortable silence as I started to think hard about if Christopher did in fact love me after all these years and was just too scared to say it.

I can remember going to bed after he moved away and prayed up and down that he would just leave for a few more days/weeks and realized that he loved me and come back. I did however know that when we were ... Would you call it ... dating...? Anyways when we were messing around he would mutter in his sleep my name and the occasional I love you. It always gave me hope that he would say it when he was wake one day. I fooled myself like I am doing now because admittedly I thought since he did all this today, that he had to feel something for me. Leave it to me to over think the situation...

The car stopped in my driveway and I didn't hesitate to get out and close the passenger door.

I began to walk to my front door, waiting for the sound of his driver’s side door to open and him to proclaim he loves me ... it never came.

My sadness led me in my house and I closed the door as tears welled up on my eyes. I blinked them away...

I need my mom right now. Though she would probably be in one of her moods I knew that her advice was the best. Yet, as I looked up and scanned the house I noted that no one was home.

"Mom?! Dad?!" I yelled in a slight panic.

My legs froze when I heard a creaking of the floorboard in the living room.

"This is not funny! Mom?" I slowly walked in the living room and turned on a light. My legs carried me to the kitchen were in saw a note on the counter:

Dear Kay,

Gone out to dinner be back later

Love,

Mom

P.S- Left you a Dr. Pepper in the refrigerator.

I sighed and then walked to the fridge and saw the Dr. Pepper right in front.

A smile found my face as I grabbed it and within minutes the liquid was hitting my taste buds. I finished it and went back into the living room.

Another sounding of footsteps made my eye focus on the doorway from the hall to the living room. I could practically hear my heartbeat and it nearly stopped when I saw a figure enter the room.

The figure was a tall male with thick, curly golden blond hair. The guy wore big black rimmed glasses that screamed fake.

"Hello Kay," he said in a velvety voice.

"Who are you?! What are you doing in my house?!"

"I am Jeremy and unfortunately I am here on behalf of my brother. He has this whole scheme to-" Jeremy stopped talking and just looked at me with his dark brown eyes. "Anyways, how about you make this easy on both of us and follow me to my car." A dry chuckle escaped my lips before I took off towards the entrance that leads to the kitchen. I slammed opened the door and made an attempt to go out the back exit but found it was locked and I didn't have the key. I also realized that I was cornered as Jeremy walked in with a frown on his face.

"Kay, please calm down, I am in no way wanting to hurt you. I just have to do what my brother says and I have to have you come with me," he coaxed. I shook my head.

"You have to be mental to think I am going anywhere with you!"

"Kay! If I don't get you to come with me my brother will get you for me and trust me he will not be nice or gentle! I am going to ask, no make that, plead that you come with me, I promise that no one will lay a finger on you! Now, come with me," he egged me on. A plan flashed in my mind and I nodded walking away from the back door and back into the kitchen.

Rushing over the counter I grabbed a knife. Turning around I was faced with Jeremy.

My shaky hand reached out and I glared at him. "Come near me and I will stab you!" Jeremy sighed in anger.

"You can't even begin to understand how irrational you are being! Put the knife down!" He asked me with frustration clearly seeping in his voice.

Suddenly, my head started to spin and my body felt weak. I dropped the knife as my hands went limp. Jeremy quickly walked over to me and held me up as my knees buckled and started to feel like jello.

"W … what?! What's happen … ing?!" I questioned as my eyes began to feel heavy.

"The Dr. Pepper had a sedative in it, now calm down. I swear no harm will come to you Kay, just let it kick in," he muttered. I wanted to struggle and get away from him but soon darkness fell over me as my heavy eyelids closed.
