I was livid, mostly horrified but it was easier to convert my fear to anger.

I had a fairly good day at work. Even Sasha had asked about the absence of my usual scowls. Of course she'd immediately known the cause.

But then I come home and Olivia looks like she doesn't want me anywhere near her. The moment I give her some space and head back to our room, I find it unoccupied.

I was angry then, but that anger doubled the moment I saw her in the kitchen, surrounded by people that were ridiculously loyal and wouldn't dare cross me.

But it didn't mean they were saints. If I was going to let anyone dangerous near the center of my existence, it would be someone I knew through and through. Like Freya, Laura or Byron.

I myself was the pure opposite of a saint of course, but Olivia was mine. Even though I didn't have the balls to say it to her, she meant everything to me. I'd have to shoot myself first before I'd ever lay a hand on her.

Which was why I had to check my temper right then.

"Olivia, I can't leave for work and have to worry about your safety all at once. I thought I made myself clear when I said you weren't supposed to be with anyone other than who I've instructed to you. And I know damn well Byron couldn't have defied my orders without your help."

She ignored me, going about the kitchen like I'd never even stepped in the room. Her back was turned to me and I had to fight the urge not to smack her lush and round ass as she wiped down the counter.

The image of her thong clad backside attacked my hormones just then, riling in the rest of what took place in my office the previous night. Christ, I had barely gone through the day without nearly drooling from remembering her taste and watching her cum all over me.

I wanted—scratch that—needed more.

But for now I wanted her to talk to me. I wanted to know what had been going through her head ever since she found out about her dad.

First we had to check the attitude though.

I approached her from behind and watched her body tense significantly. She slowly turned as I reached her, her big beautiful eyes etching up to mine.

I gently brushed off the flour that had gotten on her cheek, failing to keep my gaze from dropping to her soft, plump and pliant mouth.

"It's not polite to ignore me, Olivia," I said, gripping her chin and lifting her face to mine.

To my surprise, she recoiled from my touch, pulling away from me and moving around the counter to place it between us. That was the second time tonight that she'd refused my touch.

What the fuck was going on?

She seemed to be having a tough time holding my gaze. "Neither is it polite to treat people like you just did them."

I folded my arms, scowling for the first time today. "They'll get over it. They know too well I don't want them interacting with you."

She met my eyes. "It was pretty clear when I stepped in. I felt like some sort of infectious disease, Shayne. Did you even care to ask how I feel about all of this? How lonely I feel when there's no one to talk to?"

"Look, Olivia, I understand what you mean, I swear. But it's my job to protect you, and that means cautioning off anyone who can be a threat to—fucking look at me, will you?" I ordered softly and icily.

Her eyes immediately came back to mine, and I stopped short. She really was upset.

I sighed out my frustration, pinching the bridge of my nose. "Fine. Fine, okay?" Oh fuck, Shay, you've turned into a total weak-ass smitten fool. "I'll introduce you to everyone, if that's what you want."
