-----------------------------------------------------------

I tried my best not to look at the iPhone on the table beside me. Right now, all I needed to focus on was completing my Physics worksheet and then go to bed. No time for distractions. I shifted my papers so that the phone wouldn't be in my line of sight.

As much as I was trying to focus on my work, my mind kept wandering back to this morning. There was something going on with Kevin, and as much as I trusted him, a part of me wanted to know what it was.

I shook my head in an attempt to clear my thoughts. After a few minutes of keen concentration, I finally managed to answer all the questions. I slid the papers into my folder and let out a sigh of relief. Now to get some sleep.

I'd just placed Kevin's phone on my nightstand when it started ringing. I picked it up thinking that it might be Kevin's mom calling. I'd called her earlier to let him know that I had his phone.

I was about to accept the call and let whoever it was know that Kevin didn't have his phone at the moment. However, one glance at the caller ID and I froze mid swipe. Ashton.

I didn't know why that surprised me so much, after all Ashton and Kevin were friends. It wasn't weird that he would be calling him.

However, I really wasn't ready to talk to Ashton as yet. I needed some time to sort through my thoughts and make sense of what happened yesterday, and I wasn't having too much luck in that department.

The longer the phone rang, the more anxious I became until eventually it went silent. I breathed a sigh of relief. Apart from the fact that I didn't want to talk to Ashton, I also didn't want to put Kevin in an awkward situation with him.

Recently, for whatever reason, Ashton was always looking for a way to separate me and Kevin. Quite frankly it was starting to irritate me. Partly because his plans seemed to be working and partly because I couldn't seem to understand how his plans were working.

Why did everything feel so different now ever since that night at his party? This was a question I couldn't answer but I had a feeling that Kevin might be able to.

I brushed my thumb over the phone screen in thought. Suddenly, I heard a clicking sound. I looked down at the phone to see that I had accidentally unlocked it with my fingerprint.

This was something Melissa, Callie, Kevin and I shared. We could access each other's phones with our fingerprints. That was how much we trusted each other, and it was super convenient too because every time we met up, we constantly swapped phones.

Callie liked Kevin's phone because it had the best camera quality, and Melissa liked using my phone because of my large online library. I ended up with her phone because I liked listening to her music and Kevin somehow ended up playing games on Callie's.

The first thing I noticed was his wallpaper. It was something I'd seen lots of times before, but I'd never really looked at it until now. It was a picture of a male silhouette with what looked like claws, standing at the edge of a cliff.

Now, it felt somewhat unsettling... a little too realistic.

A flash across the screen jolted me from my thoughts.

Meeting now ~Jackson

Jackmom, can't we do this tomorrow :( ~Jun

The sooner you get here, the quicker we can leave ~Beau

Great, now I was seeing things. I stared at the words, but the longer I looked, the more I realized that my eyes weren't deceiving me.

Jackson, Jun, Beau... those were Ashton's friends. They were the guys that I'd met yesterday.

And they just so happened to be nobles. How on Earth did Kevin know them? I shook my head with a frown. I was overthinking things here. Since Kevin and Ashton were friends, he probably knew some of Ashton's other friends too. That wouldn't be strange.

A brief frown crossed my face as I wondered if Kevin knew who Ashton was. But that was crazy. Ashton's identity was supposed to be top secret, would he tell his best friend? I would... but not if it would put them in danger.

I sighed. Something was definitely going on and I was going to get to the bottom of it. Kevin and I needed to talk.

Another message flashed across the screen, but I didn't read it. It wouldn't be right to invade his privacy like this. These were his messages.

I decided to turn the phone off. That way it could save battery for tomorrow when I returned it since I didn't have an iPhone charger.

I don't know what it was with iPhones, but the battery always ran down faster than I could blink.

I turned off the lights and got into bed and after tossing and turning for a while, I finally drifted off to sleep.
