You Distract Me - S01 E28

"Lo-long is . . . uh . . . he's in the wind."

"How the fuck did you let that happen?" I sneered into the phone.

The voice on the other side didn't answer. All that could be heard was the heavy breathing.

"I'm talking to you, goddamit!"

"He said he needed to use the bathroom. So w-we let him go."

I cursed at the idiocy I was hearing. "What exactly happened?"

"We stopped to get some gas, and he looked like he really had to go. But I swear, I sent one of the guys to watch him. He must have jumped out the win-"

I cut the line before the fool could finish.

Jason Long had been the only way to prove I had nothing to do with that Turkish investor, and I'd needed to make sure of that by transporting him to a safe location where he'd be safe from people who didn't want him talking. Only I hadn't realized the idiot was the mightiest of all idiots.

I'd be damned before I'd let anything happen to my growing reputation.

Sure I had plenty to hide, but discretion had always been my greatest asset. Always.

And with these public and false accusations, I could lose everything I'd built. Reyvox was the only honest thing I had. Losing it wasn't an option.

So I had to make a couple of important phone calls, but at the moment, I had my empire to run.

On cue, my secretary, Althea, called in through the intercom.

"Your ten o'clock meeting is here, Shayne."

"Thanks, Ms. Mowry, send them in."

I sat up in my seat as I straightened my tie, which I hated with every fibre of my being. The button-down plus tie attire only came out on important occasions. This occasion in particular involved another possible investor. In case things were to go south, I needed several safe spots.

I stood up when the door opened, revealing Althea's blonde bob as she opened the door to the two men behind her.

"Gentlemen, welcome," I said.

As soon as I made eye contact with them, it was clear to me that they were here to make their own demands. And I wasn't in the mood.

Nevertheless, out of courtesy, I offered a smile and shook their hands.

"Okay then, shall we start?"

Thirty minutes later, my observations had been accurate. The assholes had come here, not hoping but ignorantly knowing I'd give them what they'd wanted.

"You're practically buying my company, Reyvox isn't for sale." I could hear my voice getting harder by the minute, but the smile stayed on.

"Listen here, Ms. West, we didn't want to bring this up, but you leave us with no choice," the youngest of the two said. "We heard about the accusations involving the Turkish investor, and all we want to do is make sure that we don't lose much if things had to go bad."

"I do not know what you're talking about," I automatically defended.

The grey haired man smirked. "Of course you do."

Just as I was about to curse them out of my office, a sight I'd craved for the past two days appeared in my line of vision through the transparent walls of my office.

She was in jeans again. Fuck.

Her lush body looked almost painful to watch in that long sleeved, low cut blouse. A touch of makeup showed off the beautiful angles of her face as it was framed by her lustrous dark waves. And finally, those red strappy heels that gave me too many perverted images.
