Cool Off

Evan's POV

"I can't believe you moved that girl into your house!" Aria snapped at me.

We were sitting in a restaurant, having lunch together. I had just told her the news about the pregnancy and moving Jasmine into my mansion. Aria was furious. We had been going steady for three weeks now.

"How are you even so sure that the baby is yours?"

"I took her word for it."

She scoffed and folded her arms. "Wasn't she the same one who left you for another man? Wasn't she the same one who embarrassed you at your gala last month?"

"Yes. That's the one."

"And, yet, you're taking her word for it?"

I remained silent. The thought of someone else fathering the child did cross my mind. If that wasn't my kid inside of Jasmine, I honestly didn't know what the hell I'd do. I wanted a kid. And, although Jasmine and I had parted ways, a fraction of my heart still belonged to her, and I was happy she was carrying a baby for me. I believed it was my baby.

"Even if she was lying, there's still a possibility that I could be the father to that child, so I'm not about to leave her out there on her own."

"Evan, you're a billionaire. It's obvious that a woman, and it just so happened to be that current former girlfriend of yours, is going to try and trap you into a constant connection with her. Why is it that the moment in time you moved on with me, she found out she's pregnant?"

"Aria, baby, maybe she didn't know. I know Jasmine. She wouldn't get pregnant with another man's child and move in with me."

"It was your idea to move her into your house!" Aria snapped.

"With all fairness, I didn't hold a gun to her head. I moved her in the mansion because she seemed scared of having a baby and caring for him or her by herself. You don't have to be so uncomfortable with this, or feel threatened by Jasmine. It's over between us."

"I'm not threatened by anyone and, in my opinion, I think you should issue a DNA test once the baby is born. You can't trust this woman."

"I'll do that, just to clear the air."

"And if you're the father?"

"Then I'll do anything and everything for my child."

"And what if you're not the father?"

"Then Jasmine would regret the day she met me."

_____________

Jasmine's POV

I was enjoying the mid-August atmosphere outside by the pool. I laid down on one of Evan's lounge chairs and sipped on my drink. The chef had made me a delicious fruit punch and me and the baby both were enjoying it. I sipped on my drink greedily while reading through a motherhood magazine. There were pictures of pregnant women and ideas on how to become the perfect mother.

Motherhood was a wonderful thing, indeed, and I felt bad for even considering an abortion and adoption. I silently apologized to the life inside of me. If he or she grew up and learnt that I wanted to get rid of them, they'd definitely hate me for letting such cross my mind.

I don't want my baby to hate me.

I finished the drink and craved for another one but I couldn't put down the book to go inside just as yet.

"Excuse me," I heard a voice said behind me.

Marking the page and closing the book, I turned around to see who it was.

Aria fricking Goode.

I straightened myself as she made her way closer to me.

"Can I help you?" I asked.

"Jasmine Blackman, right?" she asked as if she didn't already knew who I was. I was certain Evan had told her about me and that I was here. I couldn't believe he was actually going steady with her, although she was very beautiful and popular.

"Yes."

"It's finally nice to meet you," she said and extended her hand.

I only looked at it and rolled my eyes. I wasn't about to become friends with her.

"Lets just skip the formalities so you can say what you actually came out here to say," I said. I saw straight through Aria. Her entire stunt was made out of glass.

"Why the hostility?" she asked, taking her hand back and placing it on her hip. "I know black women usually are bitter you're extra."

I put up my hand, indicating that she should stop right there. "Aria, I'm pregnant with a C-H-I-L-D for the man you're dating. Are you saying that you want you and I to become friends?"

"Of course not. But, for Evan, the baby, and for peace sake, I believe you wouldn't step out of your lane."

"Excuse me!" I snapped and stood up to her figure. She took two steps backwards.

"You heard me. Honestly, I don't know why you're even here or agreed on coming here in the first place. You left Evan. And it's clear that you're unfit to even carry his baby. I really do hope that he's indeed the father, but it will be a win-win situation for us even if he's not though."

"What does that mean?"

"If he's the father, we'll be adopting the baby once we get married. And if he's not the father, we'll be sending you and your little bastard out of here so quick, it will make your head spin, Blackman."

My blood came to a boil very quickly, but that was exactly what she wanted. I wasn't about to let this woman get to me and send my blood pressure up. I blew out the steam and calmed myself.

"You're very funny and you have a unique imagination. No wonder you're a country singer. But let me make something very clear to that imagination in your head! You're not ever going to play house with my baby. And it wasn't my idea to bring me here, it was his. He wants to be there for his kid, and for me, so I'm letting him do just that. If you got a problem with that, then take it up with him.

"You called black women bitter; on the contrary, you're the bitter one. Bitter and aching at the heart that I'm the one who's actually pregnant with his baby and not you. But you just have to deal with it or get lost, and you can take that, roll it up nice and tight, and shove it up your Goode ass."

"Evan will hear about this!" she snapped and went red in the face.

She turned on her heels and walked away but I found myself walking quickly after her.

She turned around. "Don't follow me you bitch!" she said.

I have absolutely no idea what came over me but, the next thing I knew, Aria was in the pool and screaming out Evan's name.

He came through the opened glass door and came to the poolside.

"Why did you go swimming with all your clothes?" he dumbly asked her.

I snickered quietly to myself.

"SHE PUSHED ME IN!" Aria cried out.

Evan looked over to me. "You pushed her in Jasmine?" he asked.

"Well she needed to cool off," I answered. I picked up my magazine and glass, left them by the pool, and made my way to the friendly chef in the kitchen who instantly got me addicted to his virgin fruit punches.
