Muffins

Jasmine's POV

"How was your trip?" Zenia asked as soon as I came through the door.

It had been a few weeks since my trip with Evan to the Bahamas. Once we got back he jumped right back into work. The day we got back he had a meeting to attend and had one of his personal drivers take me home.

With my work schedule, and Zenia's new work schedule, I hadn't had time to relay anything to her. We were always crossing paths but had not real time to talk.

"It was lovely," I answered, my mind reminiscing back to the heated sex I had with my boss. My body placed close to his. His tongue traveling to the sensitive part of my neck and my skin raising with goosebumps. He was quite the accomplished lover.

"You know you're smiling, right?" Zenia said, folding her arms as she smirked.

"Where's Mom?" I asked, changing the subject.

"Mom found a job."

"WHAT?!"

"Mom... found... a... job," she repeated slower.

"Where?"

"At a restaurant. She'll be one of their cleaners... or chef... or something."

I raked my fingers through my hair. Placing my suitcase against the wall, I sat down on the couch. I knew my mother. She was so headstrong and independent. She hated relying on anyone. She needed to be home resting, but there was no way she was going to take the full three months the doctor told her to take. She was too used to doing for herself-- and me and Zenia.

When Dad left us without a word, it affected her, but Mom bounced back as if he wasn't there from the very beginning. She took the role of fatherhood and motherhood into her hands and she delivered everything to the best of her ability.

"Okay," I answered.

"Yeah. I know you tried to change the subject though, but it's not that easy with me."

"Zen... please don't start," I groaned.

"Did you two have sex? Because, by the look on your face, there's a glow you're trying to conceal."

My sister knew me so well, but I wasn't about to tell her about it just as yet. "Put my suitcase into my bedroom, then I'll tell you everything," I lied. I'd been so busy I hadn't had time to unpack and had just dropped it to the side in the living room.

For new gossip, she'd do almost anything. Without hesitation, my suitcase was carried into my bedroom and she took the liberty of unpacking everything inside.

"Jassy! You brought this back for me? Oh thank you, thank you!" I heard her screaming with excitement as I tried to fight the sleep from my eyes.

"Yeahhh," I groaned.

Before Evan and I left the Bahamas we went shopping. He bought clothes and accessories of my choice. I knew Zenia loved fashion so I got her ten dresses, five pairs of jeans and five pairs of shoes. I also got her a few accessories like earrings, watches and a necklace. I was happy when she appeared to be grateful. Although she got on my nerves, she was my little sister and I loved her.

"Okay, so can you tell me about it now?" she asked. "Hello. Hello!" I heard her faintly saying.

But sleep had won.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. Without looking at the caller ID, I answered.

"I'm outside," a male voice said before hanging up.

Getting out of bed with my PJ's on, I went for the front door.

"Where have you been? Huh? I've been calling you and texting you. I even came by here but you were nowhere to be found!"

"Bradley... Umm, why are you here so early?" I asked, checking the time on my phone. 6:30 am.

"Where were you Jasmine?" His tone was a growl and I saw he was trying to control his anger. "I asked you a question!" he semi shouted.

"I was on a business trip," I answered, fear coming into my chest, and it was obvious in my voice.

"With whom?" he asked the question I was dreading to answer.

"My boss."

"Just the two of you?"

"No. Several associates as well."

His anger flattened and I exhaled with relief. I knew what he was capable of doing when he got angry.

"I missed you," he said, taking me in for a hug.

"I miss you too. I should've called," I found myself saying back to him as I returned his hug.

I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I was about to enter a playing field with two men. Why couldn't I just be honest with Bradley and tell him it was only me and Mr. Hollen? And it wasn't just a business trip.

Evan made it extra special for me. We had steaming sex and we made love for an entire night. He had ordered chocolate, strawberries and whipped cream from room service. He placed it on all my sexual parts and then he sucked and ate it off me. I had never had that done to me before and I would definitely never forget it.

Evan was everything in the bedroom and out of the bedroom. The hour we were supposed to leave, he had me screaming his name in a bubbling hot Jacuzzi. Just thinking about it, made me wet all over again.

But here I was, lying to a man I wasn't even supposed to get involved with ever again. A part of me felt like I owed him, I guess.

"Wanna grab some breakfast?" he asked, planting a kiss on my cheek.

"Sure. Let me freshen up first," I said.

"Okay. I'll be in the car."

I closed the door and went back to my bedroom. I took a hot shower, changed into a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and combed my hair. For makeup I applied a little mascara and lip gloss. I left a note on the kitchen island before leaving with Bradley.

"Why are we going somewhere different?" I asked as he passed the cafe where we usually had breakfast.

"I'm stepping up my game. There's this new cafe in the south that recently opened and I'm dying to take you there."

I smiled but remained silent.

We arrived at a big cafe and the aroma of freshly baked muffins was already in the air.

"Good morning and welcome to Jem's Cafe. What can you get you?" a waitress asked as we found a seat.

"I'll have a muffin and a cup of coffee, please," I answered.

"And you, sir?"

"Same as her, but make that two muffins."

"Sure."

"It's a beautiful place, right?" he asked when the waitress left our table to fill our order.

"Definitely. It's lovely," I answered, taking in the environment with a smile on my face.

That smile disappeared quickly when my eyes landed in the far corner of the cafe. Having a cup of coffee, and dressed in a business suit with two other men that looked just as powerful as him, was seated Evan Hollen.
