Put Me Down

Before you read this chapter, I just wanted to thank you, everyone, for allowing my book to reach over 500 reads. I know it's not much compared to other books, but truly, I couldn't be more grateful. I love you all.

Shayne's POV

What the hell was she trying to do?

If her plan was to drive me crazy into oblivion, then she was doing a pretty good job so far.

I'd thought that maybe after seeing her, a week ago, the sleepless nights would stop, but no.

In fact, the dreams had even become more vivid than ever, adding on the newfound physical features.

As a result, my entire week completely went to shit. Practically everything irritated the crap out of me.

Now imagine my reaction when I see the centre of all my frustration in my workplace, looking so damn good that my brain almost short circuits in its confinement.

The first thing I noticed of course were the curves.

How could anyone not notice her? She was fucking beautiful.

And I wasn't the only one who thought it. The guys around were practically ripping off her little provocative dress with their hungry eyes.

I was suddenly filled with inexplicable jealousy.

And I'd be damned if that didn't spark my temper.

"Olivia, what the hell are you doing here?" I snapped, trying not to devour her mouth when it was right in front of me.

For Christ's sake, I'd just seen the girl a week ago.

"I uhm..." she stuttered, her blush getting deeper.

Why did I find that so hot and adorable?

"It's not a hard question goddamit!" I snarled, and she slightly jerked back.

It wasn't even my intention to frighten her again, but it was impossible to try and hold back my anger.

I felt the eyes of every single person in the cafeteria on us and decided that it wasn't the best place to talk.

"I prefer to talk privately. Come with me," I commanded, reaching for her arm.

But she moved out of my reach real quick.

"No, the last time something like this happened, I was called stupid and you were hit by a woman." Although the look of confidence and determination wavered on her face, I was extremely impressed.

But not amused, not even a little.

I closed the distance between us, and made her stare right up into my pissed-off eyes.

"Come with me, or I will carry you out of here with my bare hands."

"You wouldn't dare," she challenged.

"You wanna bet on it," I husked, slipping a glance down her lips.

"You would never do something like that in front of..."

In the next second, I didn't give her a chance to protest as I reached down, picked her off the floor and threw her over my shoulder like a bag of potatoes.

"Shayne, are you crazy?!" she screamed.

There were shouts and whistles of excitement all over.

"Shayne, put me down right now!"

"No, I warned you," I said, shifting her weight to make sure her lady parts didn't tempt me.

I stepped out of the cafeteria with her still screaming profanities at my back.

She soon accompanied her words with furious fists to my back. They didn't hurt as much as she probably thought they would, but I pinched her thigh when the last one hit my rib.

She gasped in shock and tried negotiating instead.

By then, I'd already started going up the emergency stairs.

"Okay, I'll come with you. But please put me down."

"Do I have your word?"

She didn't answer and I pinched the back of her thigh again. She shrieked this time.

"Okay, you have my word."

I placed her down on one of the staircase landings and watched her pull down her dress. The hem had ridden up to her mid thighs, and I'd be lying if I said that the loss didn't disappoint me.

"I can not believe you," she said disapprovingly.

I read her thoughts before she could go far.

As soon as she attempted to make a run for it, I swiftly picked her up off the floor and put her right back where she was.

Seriously, she practically weighed a pound.

Not really, but close.

"I am going to kill you!" she shrieked, once she was settled on my shoulder again.

"I doubt that," I said, continuing my ascent up the stairs.

"I'm thinking it, I might eventually act on it," she said, wriggling against me.

Not good.

"Well, I'm thinking about fucking your brains out, but I probably won't act on it. Why don't you do likewise?"

She immediately froze against me.

I smirked at her reaction even as I couldn't believe I'd said what I'd said.

I figured that would be the appropriate time to let her off my shoulder, seeing as I'd reached the final step of our climb.

She thoroughly composed herself and looked up at me with blank eyes. The cute blush on her face let on more than she intended to, but I didn't need to tell her that.

"Well, you said you wanted to talk?" She cleared her throat and flicked back her hair.

I wanted plenty more than just talk.

"Follow me."

I led her out of the emergency stairway and out into the main hallway of my floor.

"Where are we going?" she asked timidly.

"My office."

A few seconds passed before she spoke again.

"So you really are the CEO of Reyvox Records?"

"Yes, why?"

"Should CEOs be wearing what you're wearing, at work?"

I frowned and looked down at my black sweatpants that were accompanied by a black T-shirt and a pair of brown timberland boots.

"Is it mandatory to look like a snob all day?" I asked.

"Looking smart and impeccable doesn't make you a snob, Shayne."

I loved it when she said my name.

"Listen, I'm as much of a CEO as I am a music producer. How will artists trust me to produce their music if I appear unapproachable or unable to understand their passion for music?"

"Fine, I suppose there is a point there."

We were actually having a normal conversation. Absolutely nothing could ruin my day at the moment.

Except...

"West!" I knew that croaked creepy voice too well.

Gideon Pierce.

The man had always accused me of being an obstruction to his profession.

He usually said that if it weren't for me, his models would have more time perfecting their careers instead of worshipping me.

What the hell did that even mean?

And what on earth could he possibly want?

By the time I turned to the douche, I was already too late.

His bony fist flew straight to my face, and squarely met my jaw.
