A Cozy Little Café

Olivia's POV

Shayne still hadn't told me where we were going.

We'd left the church thirty minutes ago, and we were still moving.

Neither of us had said anything, but I could literally feel the harsh unspoken words from her. As though she were daring me to say something.

But unfortunately for her, I opened my mouth before I could stop myself.

"Are you angry because of what I did the last time we saw each other. At the barbeque?"

Silence.

Thankfully, I'd stopped stuttering.

If only she hadn't looked at me so hungrily back in the parking lot, maybe I would have been able to control my momentarily malfunctioning brain.

I risked a glance at her, but then I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

I'd never seen someone so perfect. That remarkable jawline was tempting.

"Am I the only visible thing around you?" Shayne said, sounding icy and plain mean.

Despite the furious blush that caressed my cheeks at being caught staring, I was starting to get really frustrated.

But I still couldn't look away.

"Seriously? You're still pissed even after three months?" I said hotly, just as the car came to a stop.

I looked away and found myself staring at a cozy little cafe. It's location seemed a little isolated, away from attention.

"What are we..." I turned back to Shayne, only to find her so close, so very close.

I could clearly see the golds, greens and browns of her eyes, the golds being the most dominant.

"Look, I don't give a crap about what you said or did three months ago."

Ouch.

"Then why are you so angry at me?" I said, pretending that I wasn't in any way affected by what she'd just said.

"It's what we didn't do. For some reason, I can't get you out of my head."

Well, she had a special way of showing it.

She wasn't ashamed to drop her gaze to my mouth.

"So we're gonna have a talk, clear everything that wasn't said three months ago. Then maybe I won't have you clouding my mind every time I close my eyes."

I didn't know whether to be flattered that I was on her mind or to be offended that she didn't want me on it.

She moved away but still kept her gaze on my lips.

"Why here?" I said, watching those devastating eyes travel down along my neck. They stopped at my chest, and jumped back up to my eyes.

My inner goddess grinned. The dress had no cleavage to show off, no way of captivating a certain pair of hazel eyes.

"It's far from cameras."

Oh.

I'd almost forgotten that I was talking to someone famous.

"You don't want to be seen with me."

I desperately hoped that wasn't the reason.

"No, I don't," Shayne said, looking away and reaching towards the backseat.

It shouldn't have hurt the way it did, but it did.

"If you're seen with me, then you'll officially become my new play toy. Do you want the whole world to think you're the girl currently warming my bed?"

Oh.

"Of course not." I didn't even sound convincing to my own ears. But Shayne didn't say anything.

She handed me an oversized denim jacket, while she wore a black baseball cap.

"I get the cap, but why the jacket?"

"That dress is showing off too much. It could attract unwanted attention," she said, opening her door.

"It's below my knees, Shayne."

She didn't reply as she stepped out of the car and went around it. I didn't waste the opportunity to admire her attractive profile and her broad shoulders.

How often did she work out?

I was surprised to see that she'd come around to open my door for me. I blushed as I stepped out.

"It's not the length I'm worried about, it's the figure behind it."

I stared up at her. "Excuse me?"

I wasn't as slender as I was three months ago, but I also wasn't disturbing to look at.

Shayne looked at me, confusion all over her gorgeous face.

"Don't you know that...forget it, just wear the jacket."

I rolled my eyes as I put away my shawl and wore the jacket, the hem of the sleeves reaching way past my fingers.

I gasped when she released my hair that was neatly held up by the dark veil.

"What are you doing?" I snapped, trying to reach for the pin, but she held it above my head.

"What good is hiding your body, if your face is exposed?" Shayne said. I could see the hidden amusement in her eyes.

"Fine," I said, realizing it was hopeless defying her intimidating height.

I stopped breathing when I found a torturous jaw dropping smirk on her face.

There's that smirk.

It was my turn to admire her sexy lips. It wasn't fair that they were so perfectly shaped. As though they were carved by a famous Greek sculptor.

I jumped when the car door suddenly shut closed beside me.

"Sorry," Shayne said, looking nothing like an apologetic person. The smirk was replaced by an easy smile, but just as mesmerizing.

I just rolled my eyes at her again, enjoying the sudden change of atmosphere between us.

"It's a cute place. Have you been here before?" I said as she led me along.

I didn't object to the hand she placed on the small of my back, but it didn't mean I wasn't nervous about it either.

"We've been coming here every Sunday afternoon since we moved. It's kind of like a tradition."

"We?" I said, thankful that I didn't stutter.

"Yeah, me and my grandmother. She was my date to the barbeque."

We stepped into the neat and cool café, spotting a few customers, none of them paying any attention to us.

I faked a gasp. "Shayne West, I can't believe you. You had a date to the barbeque. I thought I was your supposed girlfriend."

I swooned and melted inside out when I heard her warm and husky chuckle.

How had I even gone three whole months without hearing it?
