I joined him also to look at the mattress he was concentrating on,

“What is it doing outside? My father finally asked.

“I just decided to air it today, I sweat a lot, I replied and he just went in which I followed behind to dress up for school.

When I arrived school, I walked into the class like a mouse and my class mates looked at me surprised Jessica is coming in at past 8a.m unlike her. I was so moody and distracted thinking about a lot of things ignoring that I was even hungry.

I got home and took my mattress in and my mother returned with Cyril,

“How are you? She asked when I welcomed her.

“I don’t know, i replied.

“Kayode is still not in school and I got his address and traced his house but they don’t live there, my mother said and I looked at her.

“I don’t understand, did they vacate or something? I asked.

“No one knows them, looks like they gave the school a wrong address or something, my mother replied and I heaved not knowing what to say and she touched me.

“Maybe you drank a lot of water last night, don’t worry about it okay it was only a mistake, she said and I nodded.

I don’t know if that was to make me feel better, it would have worked if I didn’t bedwet again when I woke up the next morning.

This time around I didn’t find my voice to shout when I saw myself soaked again. I sat down staring at my body and wondered how I can sleep comfortably on my own urine despite the stench without feeling it until it is morning. The door immediately opened and my mother walked in just to check if I have repeated it again, and of course I didn’t disappoint her.

She was speechless with one hand on the door handle and the other covering her nose because of the odour that hit her bad. I just remained there crying my eyes out, I didn’t have a single strength to come down and clean myself up until my mother had to drag me to the bathroom.

“We’ll go see the doctor today, my mother said after she cleaned me up but I could not say a word. Whatever that was going on was seriously affecting me emotionally and my mother feared it will break me down. All she did was to encourage me and hide any kind of anger from me that will make things worst, of course she knows her daughter is better than this.

Again, i took my mattress outside and my father caught me red handed,

“Is this a new development or what? Or is the air conditioner not working that will make you sweat every night? My father asked but I could not reply him.

“I am talking to you Jessica! Why are you airing your mattress again! He shouted on me as I bowed my head and Cyril came out and held his hand,

“Daddy, sister is now weeing in bed, he said and i looked at him shocked. Indeed you can’t hide things from children, they will just disgrace you without remorse.

“Cyril! My mother shouted on him when she came out and heard him.

“What did you say? Jessica wee wee? My father asked making Cyril to face him so that my mother look won’t influence him, and he innocently nodded.

“Keep your mouth shut! My mother said and attempted to take him away from my father.

“Now you keep your mouth shut! If you dare touch him eh you will regret all your life in this beautiful Saturday morning. So your grown up daughter is urinating in bed and you’re covering her up huh in my house! Mr father shouted.

“Your grown up daughter also, or is she an outsider? What do you care about her? Would you have done something about her condition? My mother replied.

“This is good, you better start getting a house for her because she won’t stay here and make my house stink. Just imagine, you should be ashamed of yourself, thou senior girls school prefect! My father shouted giving me a disgusting look and went in with Cyril while i stood with my teeth shaking. We live in a rented apartment though spacious, but my father loud voice was just enough to call the neighbors outside to see us and I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.

It was no longer a secret, finally Jessica has been exposed that she pees in bed. To make it more embarrassing, I have about two junior students who lives in the compound, my pride has just been tarnished as they were just there looking with their hands covering their mouth.

“Let’s go in, my mother said taking me inside and I cried on her in my room.

“Jessica its enough, you’ve wet my skirt with your tears, my mother said touching my hair as I placed my head on her Laps, but all I saw was the faces of my neighbors standing at their door looking at us.

“Why did daddy do that to me? At least he should have take me in to scold me but he disgraced me outside. What did I ever do to him? Why does he hate me this much? I cried and my mother breathed out.

“Ssshhhh its okay I’m here for you right? dress up we’ll be going to the hospital. Make sure you get dressed I’ll be back, my mother said lifting my head up and cleaned my face before leaving.

We got to a private hospital and met a doctor friend of hers who my mother told her the latest happenings,

‘Do you drink lots of water during the day? The doctor asked and I shook my head.

“Okay, do you see yourself urinating in the dream? She asked again and I shook my head.

“Alright, do you feel any pains? Come, Stand up dear, she said and I stood up and went close to her and watched her touching some parts of my body asking if I feel pains but I shook my head.

“This is serious, I’ll run a test on her to see if she has any kidney issues or any infection or obstruction in her bladder or something that can trigger this. But then stress can cause enuresis………. “Nothing stresses me, am very free, I finally spoke up interrupting her.

“Calm down dear, I will look into this and you’ll be fine, the doctor assured and I breathed out.

All tests came out negative and every therapy I was advised to do was futile. Prayers seems not to be working either because There is no day my eyes closes to sleep I don’t urinate and it made me scared of sleeping. My mother could not take it anymore, she cried out in the school begging anyone who knows the whereabouts of Kayode to please help her out. She was ready to lick their feet if that will make me well, but surprisingly no one knew where they lived neither could they reach out to them.

I didn’t know my mother did such a thing for me not until a colleague of hers who left the school heard what happened and decided to visit her. My mother cried narrating everything to her,

“His grand father said I will see him, but I didn’t take it serious. I was just angry that day that the school authority declined my request to take care of my sick daughter despite they are owing me, and Kayode urinated making my child fall, I was so angry and let it out on him for the very first time. Its two months now and I’ve tried everything but its not working, my mother said and her colleague heaved.

“I have a reason of resigning when a small girl I beat in class stretched her hand and asked me to bet her if she won’t deal with me. When I heard that my dear, i quickly apologized o because I don’t know who she is, because the school I left before this, that was how my friend beat a boy and woke up with a goiter on her neck the next day after the boy promised to pay her back. When I saw that I left immediately and came to this school, and here was a small girl telling me to bet her. Children are dangerous nowadays and we have to be extra careful, you should have just ignored, the woman said and my mother was just shaking her legs.

“Ahhhhh But my daughter has nothing to do with this, I regret taking her to school that day. The more I think about this it pains me more that I took my daughter to school to meet such a mess, this punishment is too much for my daughter! My mother cried out as I peeped at them and cleaned my own tears.

My mother doesn’t joke with us, she keeps saying whatever she is enduring in this marriage of hers is because of us, and this happening to me is just happening to her also.

My skin was beginning to react to my urine and it made my mother to sleep in my room so she can be waking me up at intervals to urinate, but despite the stress, i still urinate before morning.

We tried native and every recommendation that was given by concerned people who heard about my situation but Jessica has already recorded 3 months of constant bed wetting. The Jessica in me was gone and every pride I had in me was dead. I struggled with my examinations and was able to finish it and it was time for our graduation ceremony.

I hated sleep and fights it whenever it comes even at the eve of my graduation party. My mother begged me to sleep but I couldn’t, I was just awake watching movies till the next morning so I won’t sleep, and congratulations to me I succeeded, at least I didn’t urinate that night.

But who am I to cheat nature??

With my swollen eyes, I dressed up for my graduation and my mother happily applied a moderate make up on my face to make me look better and touched my cheeks,

“My daughter is beautiful, she said and I just gave a weak smile. I don’t know what would have become of me if I didn’t have her.

“Okay we’ll join you later in school, bye, my mother said and I left first for school, but sleep came knocking.

I prayed, casted and binded as the graduating students were seated in the hall well decorated. I was so scared and thought of how to escape, but as a popular person in school I was always held one way or the other by teachers until I found myself sitting in the hall just in the front. Soon I began to doze off with my head bowed I slept off. Then I heard a tap on my hand followed with my name and I woke up looking at her blank,

“Your name is being called, go take your award, my classmate said and I looked at the stage to see my principal and some teachers looking at me to come up, but sadly the worst has happened!!!
