Wife Swap - S01 E37

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 37

I gaze out of the car window as Rome navigate through the bustling city streets. I wish we would have just remained there never to return. The burden i left here reenters my soul. The world outside seemed to mirror the thoughts swirling within my mind—a mélange of excitement, uncertainty, and a touch of trepidation. I can't help but wonder what the future held for me, for us. I look over at Rome, his attention is on the road. We have crossed boundaries we should have and now i feel like the light is shining on am and i can finally see myself and deeds.

I allow my mind to entertained thoughts that i shouldn't. What now becomes of us? Is there more that can ever materialize between us? I think not. Our destinies seem fated to intertwine in a never-ending cycle of misery. From our initial encounter at the National Archives, where grief consumed me after losing my father, to the subsequent twist of fate involving a wife swap, and now the troubling situation involving Lia, we find ourselves here, entwined yet again.

I exhale and dread of the uncertainty that awaits.

"You seem distant. We are already home." Rome comments.

"I don't want to be here." I mutter.

"Me too, but we can stay indoor and watch whatever you want until you are ready to come out of the house." He tries to reason with me.

"I don't think i want to continue with the wife swap arrangement." I say.

He looks over at me with concern, "You want to end it?" he asks.

"I just wish it never existed to begin with." I feel like something has shifted within me. Can I find a way to bridge the chasm between who I was and who I have become?

"There is nothing back about reflection, you have come so far." He says proudly.

"Did the detective make an arrest for Tyler?" I ask instead.

"He has just texted me that they have." He replies and i feel relieve wash over me. At least semblance of justice is served.

All those days Mason hasn't bombarded me with text or calls that are nothing short of insults. I have to wonder if he finally decided to give up and just be with Esme. It is unsettling thought.

Lia is yet to respond regarding Jax. I asked Fiona to be with her at this time. Mason's parents don't want to let Lia have her son.

I am glad when i realize we are already at the apartment. I look forward for a warm bath and nice sleep for several days before i can integrate back into the world.

Rome insist on carrying everything. He did buy a lot of souvenirs.

As we get closer to the door, i notice that it seems unlock and Rome notices it as i do. He steps in front, protecting me from any unseen danger. I stand as i watch him twist the doorknob and open it slowly like mine field. Once the door opens he stands upright and i see disappointment in his face before he walks in and i follow him.

I am surprised to find my bags packed and placed by the door. I first notice Esme, then Sienna.

Esme stops on her tracks when she sees us, her shock is momentarily, "Honey, you are home." She says.

Rome is still in shock and confused, "What are you doing here?" He asks her.

"What do you mean? We are married." She dismisses his concern.

I remain rooted in a corner, a silent observer of this unfolding spectacle, feeling as though I've stumbled into an alternate reality.

Rome turns to me and sees my bags. "Why did you put those bags there?" He demands.

"I wanted to save her the trouble of packing."

"To go where?" His anger reverberates in his outburst.

"Her husband, of course."

Rome huffs, clearly upset. "The wife swap agreement is not over."

"Well, we are now even and can go back to our normal lives." Esme says and all this time i am just

"Even?"

"I am sure those days both of you were away, you were not playing catch. I forgive you and you forgive me. We both have learnt our lesson." Esme says.

Rome attempts to speak but he is trembling i can't tell what is he is about to do.

He cast me a quick look and just storms away to his room, leaving me with his wife and Sienna.

Esme, her disgust palpable, sneers, "I didn't think you'd cave in so easily to sleep with my husband" In a way i feel the same towards myself.

"Why now when you could have disagreed from the beginning?" I ask her.

"Sometimes we don't know what we have until it's lost." She responds. "I am sure Mason's misses you and so do you."

I shake my head, refusing to accept her twisted logic. "How can you so effortlessly intrude upon people's lives, wreak havoc, and see no fault in your actions?"

"Your husband has been a womanizer before i met him. Blame yourself."

"I can help you carry your bags outside." Sienna offers with a sarcastic tone.

"do you know your friend here was always trying to make move on Rome?"

"I rather lose to her than you."

"What have i ever done to you?" I inquire, bewildered by the depth of her animosity.

"I hate how you walk around like you are better than anyone, and still people will want to please you," she spits, exposing her raw hatred towards me, a sentiment I suspect she has harbored since our initial encounter.

"Leave!" Sienna orders.

"I have to hear it from Rome." I find myself hoping desperately he will come back and chase them away... Choose me.

"I am his legal wife and i will be within my rights to defend my property." She picks my bags and throws hem out. It is not long before the two girls push me out just as Rome reemerges and they lock the door on my face.
