"Hi baby." I put the phone to my ear as I walk down the street with a big smile on my face.

"What are you doing right now?"

"No hi nice to hear your voice baby? How was your day? Oh it was okay thank you for asking. Your manners are lacking a little love." I laugh down the phone and run my other hand through my hair as I check for cars before crossing the road.

"Ever so sorry my love. How was your day?" Her voice is sarcastic but she manages to sound serious at the same time.

"It was okay thank you for asking, what's up? We usually don't call until after dinner." I try and walk a little faster seen as I'm not far from home and I don't like being on the phone while walking.

"Yeah sorry about this being so random I was just wondering what you were doing?"

"Well I'm about a minute away from my house so as of this very second I am walking. However in the next 5 minutes I'm gonna sat watching tv with a big bowl of pasta. I've been craving it all day." I turn on to my street and my stomach turns when I notice the outside motion light on. "Any reason you're asking?"

"Just hurry up baby." She hangs up the call before I can talk back and I walk quicker whilst trying to not look like a maniac to my neighbours.

The second I see her stood at my front door I run to her, my bag falling from my shoulder to my arm and she barely stands up off the step quick enough to catch my hug. Wrapping my arms around her and she does the same, neither of us letting go any time soon.

"Fuck." I let out a deep breath and wipe the tear in the corner of my eye as we slowly separate. "How did you? When did you? Fuck I can't speak."

"Breathe baby. I thought it had been too long since I last saw you and you've had a crazy workload lately so I wanted to surprise you." She leans down and picks up the bouquet of roses that I never even noticed, I was too busy trying not to burst into tears.

"God you're amazing." I kiss her quickly on the lips and unlock my door, taking the flowers off her so I can put them in the sink for now. I was unprepared and currently don't own a vase.

She walks up behind me as I run the water to fill up the sink a quarter of the way up. Her hands lace around my waist and she stands behind me, resting her chin on my shoulder and planting soft kisses in the crook of my neck.

"I missed you." She sighs and whispers in my ear. Butterflies starting to float in my stomach, we've said those words a million times to each other but for some reason it set off butterflies.

"I missed you baby. It's been too long." I rest the flowers in the sink and turn around so I'm facing her now, both of us smiling as we lean into kiss one another.

"6 months and 18 days." She mutters between kisses and I pull away with the most ridiculous grin on my face.

"You kept count?" I laugh at how crazy that sounds.

"Technically? No. It's just always cute when people do that in movies so I counted how long it had been before I got here." She feathers her hand over my cheek and runs her thumb over my bottom lip.

"Well I appreciate the gesture." Her eyes stay glued to my lips as I talk. It's very distracting.

She leans in my neck, hovering over my ear. "I need you sweetheart, I need you in ways a phone could never suffice." Her words send the butterflies spiralling, they're raging around in my stomach. "6 months." Her voice going lower
