She is too good to be hidden away

I felt movement, and I slightly opened my eyes. Noticing that I have fallen asleep, leaning against Rylan's arm. She is carefully stretching over to the table, and I held my breath as she opened my drawing book. I tried as well as possible to remain steady as she moved through the pages until she found herself in there.

"She is good, isn't she?" I heard Joan, the flight attendant say and closed my eyes in a rush.

"Yeah," Rylan only said, and I could tell that she is scrolling through the pages.

"She hasn't drawn in a while," Rylan commented, and I felt my heart speed up, remembering that I always leave the date on the pages.

"No, she hasn't," Joan sighed; that woman knows too much, but she is amazing. She has always shown an interest in me whenever I fly.

"Hadley had a great passion for drawing and painting, but since her father took away the opportunity for her to use her skills somewhere else, she lost the passion for it," She explained, and it felt like my heart fell to the bottom of the ocean. The remainder is painful.

"She is too good to be hidden away," Rylan said, and I swallowed hard to those words. Nobody has ever said something like that before.

"She really is, and to point it out, Hadley had never drawn someone like you before," Joan chuckled.

"What do you mean?" Rylan asked; I could hear the confusion in her voice. I, on the other hand, am scared of what Joan is going to say next.

"One of her security guards, I have a feeling she might like you," She told Rylan, and without warning, I wrinkled my nose in annoyance.

"I'm not so sure about that," She laughed lightly.

"She is trying everything in her power to make me go away," Rylan breathed out.

"She always does that to annoy her father, so don't take it personally," Joan told her.

"I know, and I'm not. It's my job to protect her, whether she is willing or not," She explained, and I smiled unintentionally but tucked it away quickly.

"Sounds like the right attitude," Joan responded.

"We land in thirty minutes, is there anything you would like to have?" She asked kindly.

"No, thank you,"

Ever since I decided to get up from Rylan, I have stayed quiet as well as she. No words have been shared. Only a few when she asked me at the airport if I had everything or when she asked if I was okay.

In the cab to the hotel, the silence was awkward, mostly because I know she looked through my book. It's still embarrassing, it was foolish of me to draw her, and I shouldn't have done that. Yet, she is the only person I wanted to draw at the moment that I wished to draw after such a long time. I'm not sure why, but the fact that I know there is something more to her than what she is expressing.

I strolled after Rylan as we went out of the elevator, both of us rolling our suitcase after us until she stopped in front of our rooms but faced me instead of going inside her room.

"Am I expected to find you in the bar this evening?" She asked out of the blue, and I frowned at her words.

"Am I that predictable?" I questioned, offended as I tilted my head.

"A little," She said, and I rested my hands on my hips as I rolled my eyes.

"No, soldier, I'm not going anywhere tonight," I replied and sighed with tiredness. I think the tension of the plane trip has left me drained.

"Okay," She said, and I unlocked the door to step into my room, but I glanced back at Rylan, who I caught watching me intensely.

"Goodnight, Miss Hadley," She said and turned to her door.

"Why do you call me that?" I asked, and she halted in the doorway to face me.

"Why don't you use my last name?" I wondered.

"Because your name is Hadley, or would you prefer me calling you by your last name?" She offered as she stood straight with narrowed eyes.

"No, I prefer my name, It's just everyone else called me by the last name, and you don't," I commented, and she nodded.

"I'll keep using your first name then," She smiled softly, and she pulled a smile out of me as well. There was something about the look on her face that couldn't make me stop it.

"I'll get us a cab around 18:00 tomorrow for the party," She said, and I nodded but let out a breath of how sick I am already of this.

"I know this is not what you wanted, but it will be over before you know it," Rylan said, but I clenched my teeth.

"Yeah, until he sends me away to do something else," I blurted out harshly; it was not pointed at her, of course.

"Have you tried talking to him?" She asked, leaning on the frame of the door as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Many times, I can't get through to him," I sighed as I noticed that the look on her face is curiosity, but I also focus as if she is actually listening to me.

"Did you have problems with your parents," I wondered, yet she only shook her head as she gazed at the floor.

"I can't really have a problem with someone who doesn't exist," She said, and I think she did it unintentionally as her mouth slightly opened with a firm look on her face.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Miss Hadley. Goodnight," She forced a smile as she closed the door behind her.

"Night," I said even though I know she couldn't hear it, but I'm thinking too hard about those words she told me. I'm not sure if I understood her right. However, it sounded as if she never had parents. I might be mistaken, and I don't know.
