TIA

Thanks for tonight Bishop. I had fun,” I say when he stops the car a few meters from my house.

The Bishop had an online meeting this evening with some of the partners of the church. I stayed behind and waited for him.

And when he was done, we went to a movie then grabbed dinner afterwards. I texted Zyair and told him I would be working late then I turned on my phone before he could respond.

He holds my hand in his,” So did I,” he says but neither of us make a move to leave.

“I would really love to spend as much time with you as possible.”

“The feeling is mutual.”

“There’s a pastor’s leadership conference coming up next week and I would love you to come with me. It will run from Monday to Wednesday. We have time for ourselves on Thursday which is your birthday and return home on Friday or Saturday. What do you say?”

“The venue?”

“We are still looking into Venues. Probably South Africa. Do you have a passport?”

“No I don’t. But I would love to come with you.”

“Okay, I have a few connections at the passport office. We can get you an express one by next week.”

“That will be amazing. You mean we will fly to South Africa?”

“Yes.”

“I am so excited that it would be the best Birthday present ever. Flying to another country on my birthday. Who else is coming?”

“Just you and me.”

“Wow. I can’t wait.”

‘”I should definitely fly around the world girl.”

“I would love that.”

“Great,” He pulls me into his arms and lightly kisses me, “goodnight. I will see you tomorrow.”

“Good night to you too,” I step out of the car, wave at him and rush towards the house. When I get in, Zyair is sitting in the living room watching soccer.

“Hello,” I say but he doesn’t respond.

I shrug,” picture no sound? Okay.”

I walk into our bedroom, change into my pajamas and walk into the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I return, Zyair is in our room checking my bag.

“What do you want from there?”

‘”Your phone.”

“What for?”

“You sent me a message saying you are working late and I couldn’t get through to you after that.”

“Battery low.”

“Why were you working late?”

‘”I stayed behind for a church meeting after work.”

“Have you suddenly become married to the church?”

“Stop being ridiculous.”

“Because you are always at church these days. You hardly have time to even clean the house or cook for me. Have you checked through the wardrobe of late to see how many clean clothes I have left?”

“You know I work and I have to attend church services and programs. If you feel like I am too busy to do all these things then let us get a maid.”

“And pay the maid with what money?”

“You are a man, you will figure it out.”

“You can’t be serious.”

“I am serious, soon I will start going to school and will have no time to do anything at home so the sooner we hire a helper the better.”

“You know we were fine before you joined this church? But now you have changed, I don’t even know you anymore. Look at the clothes you wear these days and the time you get back home. Even when you are home I don’t feel your presence because you are always on the phone attending online services. What is going on Tia because now I am tempted to call for a family Meeting?”

I laugh, “oh so now you want to make a mountain out of a molehill.”

“Because I feel like I am losing you to the church.”

“No you are not. I am here, I am the same woman you married two years ago. I am just focused on trying to create a future for us.”

“We don’t even spend time together anymore.”

“I will spare some time for you when I get back from South Africa.”

“South Africa?”

“I am going to a church conference in South Africa on Sunday. I will be there for a week and…”

“And you didn’t think of telling me about it?”

“I am telling you now.”

“You’ve got to be serious.”

“I was just told about it this evening.”

“And you accepted to go?”

“Yes. You wanted to say no?”

“You should have first come to seek approval from me, what happens if I tell you not to go?”

I laugh, “I am sure you know that I am stubborn. When I make a decision I don’t go back on it.”

“You don’t even have a passport.”

“The church will organize one for me.”

“Seems the church is doing the most for you.”

“Yes it is. Are you done getting upset because I want to sleep now? I am tired and tomorrow is a working day.”

“The family meeting definitely needs to be called.”

“I don’t see any problem here but if you see it then you call the family meeting just don’t get me involved.”

“And Zion has…”

“Don’t talk to me about that witch.”

“You don’t call my sister a witch.”

“If you knew what I know now you wouldn’t be defending her.”

“And what do you know?”

“When the time is right. The lord shall avail all things done in secret.”

“I hope you are not being brainwashed into believing my sister did something to you because…”

“Good night Zyair. When you decide to call a family meeting you will let me know. Otherwise I love you and I think you are overreacting.”

“Oh.”

“Turn off the light on your way out.”
