Revenge Eve

My life doesn't change much after Sebastian showed up. I am still going from home to work and vice versa, every single day.

+

But miraculously, I have never dialed Mary's phone again.

Guess Mary knows about the failed commerce last time, and she didn't receive the commission. So, she didn't call in either.

The other day, a special customer comes to the store while I am on duty. His appearance is even more unexpected than Sebastian's—

It is Joey, the man who had threatened my father's life in the hospital.

I knew I am back in the city, and that I would finally meet him one day. Or rather, I came back here for that very day. But I didn't expect that day to come so soon.

What shocks me, even more, is that Joey doesn't seem to remember me anymore.

But who would associate the drab clerk in her rustic overalls with the glowing, young, fashionable newlywed lady she once was?

"This, this, and this ......"

Joey, wearing sunglasses, in an Armani leather outfit, points at the expensive shoes on the display. There are two silent bodyguards standing on each side behind him.

To avoid his sight, I pick out a small shelf and turned my back to him to wipe the nonexistent dust off the shoes. The merchandise have been cleaned by my own hands just yesterday and is spotless.

I suppress my anger and nervousness, even though my hands are shaking.

Mia walks over to Joey very attentively. She now has a smile on her face that only appears when she meets a promising client.

"Your taste is just as good as your handsome face, these shoes you just picked are the hottest selling ones of the season ......"

Joey interrupts her coldly. A hint of murder is in his low voice.

"Except for these I pointed, pack the rest."

"What?" Mia's smile froze on her face, as if she couldn't believe what she had just heard. The way she opened her mouth slightly made her look a bit dumb. I stopped moving my hands too.

"You mean, all the rest of......" Mia cautiously confirms the information she has just received.

"I don't like to repeat my words."

The air in the store seems to freeze as Joey finishes those words.

Even through the sunglasses, I can see the stern expression on Joey's face from behind.

The two big men standing behind him look like the mafia in a Hollywood movie who would pull out a gun and put a bullet through Mia's head in the next second.

Mia probably realized that the man in front of her is not an ordinary customer, she immediately changes her attitude from attentive and enthusiastic to very calm and professional.

"Not a problem, sir. Please come with me to check them out."

I follow immediately to the counter and bend down to pretend I am searching behind the counter for a gift box ready to be wrapped with merchandise.

Joey seems to notice me as he pulls out his black card.

"......"

He didn't say anything, but I felt his gaze glued to me. I had to put my head down a little further, and by this time my heart was beating in my throat.

"Please sign here."

Joey's attention is drawn to Mia's pleading voice.

Thank goodness! I worship Mia, the lifesaver, in my heart.

In those few seconds, I glance up at the black card at relative speed. Joey signs the card and puts it away in his wallet.

"Thanks for coming. I'll see you next time."

Mia and I, along with the rest of the staff, bow ninety degrees and escort Joey and the others out of the store.

The moment I watch his footsteps disappear from my sight, the big stone hanging in my heart finally fall to the ground.

A a full day of busy work, I had to organize the merchandise, inventory, and so on.

After all this work, by the time I got home, it was already eleven o'clock at night.

Although my body is exhausted, my heart has never been so happy as at this moment. Even it feels like a sense of relief on the eve of revenge.

I clutch my underarm bag, which contains the data I secretly copied from the cashier's computer.

If I could find someone to help me decipher the password leaked from these transactions, I would be able to reach a shortcut to Joey's secret.

This revenge plan seems a little too easy.

As I am walking lightly back to my apartment, I hear a sudden metallic sound of footsteps in the darkness.

I draw a cold breath and jerk my head back, when I am suddenly swung to the ground with an iron bar.

My eyes went black and sharp pain came from my skull.

"Emm ......"

Before I can make a move, the person grabs my handbag and yanks it into his arms. It is clear that he came for money.

Absolutely not!

Losing the data in the bag would mean losing my best chance to get revenge on Joey!

I grit my teeth and roll to the ground, holding the bag tightly, and at the right moment kick the man in the lower body with my foot!

"FUCK!!!" He cries out in pain and fell to the ground.

His voice fades through the sluggish air to the end of the alley. I look at his face, which is red with pain and anger, and realize that this was the perfect moment to escape.

I briskly turn around and run wildly with my bag in my arms, but I didn't expect the bastard to grab me by the shirt rim!

My body steeply falls backward.

I throw my hands away from him without hesitation, but he suddenly pulls out a knife and cuts my hand deep!

"Uh!!!"

The smell of blood spread out in all directions. I winced, and in a daze of fear I lift the bloody hand. The dark red flowing blood--

It glows demonically in the night. I realize that pain can be so cold and penetrating.

The man is stunned by the horrific sight in front of him, and the fierce light in his gaze suddenly narrows.

I notice that his mask only covers the lower half of his face, and from his eyes, this thin man looks like his youth.

I let out a loud cry, and only to see his black outfit, like a fog, quickly blends into the dark street scene under the moonlight, and soon dissipated.
