"I forgot that you are ...... my brother's wife."

Sebastian's voice is cold as frost dousing my enthusiasm. My cheeks turn red as I retie my robe and correct him, "I was."

"You know our relationship better than anyone. It was a marriage for a business union, and neither Steven nor I were happy. I didn't want to marry him at the time, but my father ...... made me do it or his company would have been swallowed up. Although it all failed in the end, I was just focused on saving him at that time."

Sebastian drops his head down, avoiding my gaze. I know he knew about Steven's affairs all along.

"Andrea ......" I hear him call my name and look up into his deep eyes. I thought he didn't want to expose the past, but I read another meaning in his eyes: He is too sympathetic to hear me finish it.

"To exchange my marriage for your family's help was the only way." I say, "It was a deal." Just like what I had just done.

Tears are forced back as these memories crush my heart like razor blades. I find myself holding the glass in a hand that can't stop shaking.

"Steven is a good man who helped my family and ...... forgave me. I have great respect for him. Other than that, I have no other feelings for him."

I take a sip of my whiskey. The ice has all melted in the glass, but the whiskey seems more bitter than before, so bitter that it stimulates tears in my eyes.

Sebastian sees the tears on my face, and he seems to reach out to stroke my cheek but pulls back.

"No matter what you and Steven, what your relationship is ...... we should not keep it going on."

"Why?" My stubborn gaze at him as if it were going through his body.

"Because it would make me suffer ......"

His eyes darken, "You know what? After Steven found out that you were the smuggler, he locked himself in his room for a whole month and didn't see anyone. I even feared he was preparing to commit suicide. Then one time I used a spare key to force open his door and bring him food, and I found him staring at your wedding pictures."

Sebastian is silent for a few minutes and his eyes become very hurt: "Andrea, do you remember the first time I met you when I came back from abroad?"

"Yes. That was when we had dinner in the garden of Steven's villa."

"That's right. I remember that time, our whole family loved you very much, my mom cooked you her best dish, and my grandma gave you her ruby necklace."

I recall these warm images, which act as a magic switch, evoking more and more tears as I get chills all over my body. That's when I realize that I've never forgotten these things, I just don't let myself think about them.
