Mrs Susan was restless after waiting for hours and Lora didn’t returned , she imagined where she would have gone to . Lara stayed up till ten PM when they was no sign of her , she went to the homes of her male friends ,in the estate to ask after her, but nobody had seen Lora. She drove to the estate gate and the security guards confirmed they had seen a girl of about sixteen years old Leave the gate , their description matched hers . Mrs Susan drove around Kado life camp if she could find Lora, but she was no where to be found. She returned back home around eleven PM after her thorough search , yielded no result . She thought of one other place she could have gone to

“Hello sister good evening,bhow are you doing?”

The weary mother said .

“Susan why are you calling me so late ? Is everything alright?”

Her sister who was not happy about her waking her up said bitterly.

“Sister all is not well oh! Lora ran away from the house since early this evening, I’ve searched for her everywhere but couldn’t find her, did she run to your place?”

Her sister was displeased with her.

“Have you finally succeeded in chasing your daughter away?”

Mrs Sharon who was Lora’s aunt said .

” Sister they had a fight, Lora and Lara, I stepped in to intervene, she got angry and stormed out.”.

Mrs Sharon was not convinced, she knew of her sister’s hate and bias against her daughter Lora.

” Taking sides with Lara against her , you don’t know you’re driving her away from you ? No she didn’t come here, I wished she did , so I can keep her safe.”

Mrs Susan was worrying.

” Have you checked at her friends place?”

Mrs Sharon said he had .

” Just go to bed , she’s fine I’ll come to your place Tomorrow morning so we can search for her together.”

Mrs Sharon was really pissed at her sister , she had told her severally to stop transferring the hate she had for Desmond to the poor girl. Susan couldn’t sleep all through the night, she kept toasting and turning worrying over the whereabouts of her daughter .

The next morning she called in sick at work . Her sister came around and together they searched for Lora, they had to report to the Life Camp police station.

At the Ghetto Lora didn’t want to go back home, Bedemi wasn’t happy about her running from home.

“Lora two wrongs make worst! How could you run from home to Chinedu’s place? Why didn’t you come to my house? I just pray you don’t get pregnant, how could you have unprotected sex with him, what if you get pregnant?

Bidemi complained bitterly.

“Bidemi I’m not going back to that house, my mum wants to kill me, she makes me wish to die, did I asked to be brought to this world? I should give her and her favorite daughter space , so they can enjoy their time togethe, they’ll find their peace and I ,mine .”

Bidemi insisted that Lora must go home , on the third day , early In the morning Lora went home, her sullen mum was looking drained, and stressed . When she saw Lora she embraced her .

“Baby I’m sorry I never meant to make you feel unloved, I just wanted to make you understand, that you have to look out for your twin sister.”.

Lora was dead silent . Mrs Susan escorted her up the stairs .

“Hi Lora.” Lara said to her , with an expression, like she saw Lora the previous night . While she continued with her breakfast of toasted bread, and tea with fried eggs.

“Lora where have you been , we’ve been searching for you, for the past three days , we couldn’t find a trace of you .” Mrs Susan asked.

” Mum I was at a friend’s place.”

Mrs Susan was happy her daughter was back , but unhappy about her running from home. She left for work leaving the twins at home . There was a cold war in the house the twin avoided each other as if they each had COVID 19.

Three weeks later Mrs Susan went to Banex plaza, to get her daughters phones .

“Hello girls am back”

Mrs Susan said excitedly. Lora and Lara both went to embrace her .

“Wait girls wait! I got you the phones I promised you! ”

She presented two phones to the twins .

“Mum you got me a Samsung Galaxy S10, I love you mummy!”

Lara kissed her mum on the cheek and ran up to her room to get her registered sim card. Lora frowned when she saw her own phone, it was a cheaper brand .

“Mum you got Lara a Samsung Galaxy S10 and got me a Techno pop one ? Mummy why can’t you just be fair for once? Must you always blatantly show your partial love? I’m tired of this impartiality,.”

Lora screamed And began to sob as she walked away

“How dare you ! You ungrateful girl! What have I not done for you? What has your useless father ever done for you ? If you don’t want the phone, give It back to me! I’ll return it back to the shop, and use the money to buy food , imagine this ungrateful child, I even bought a phone for you in this Buhari Government you cannot show appreciation, if you don’t like the phone. Bring it back to me , I’ll sell it and use the money to buy foodstuffs.”

Lora was surfing the net to check the prices of the phones her mum bought for them, her Techno phone was sold at thirty nine thousand naira, and the Galaxy S10 ninety nine thousand naira . Lora wept in bed, she was feeling nauseous, she ran into the bathroom, to puke.

“This is just so unfair”

She screamed under her breathe.

Lora had taken ill, feeling cold and feverish , she would visit the bathroom a million times to puke or cough out mucus .

“Lol are you pregnant? Why are you puking like a pregnant cow?”

Lara said as she ran into Lora cleaning up, after puking . Lora ignored her and went to her room .

She kept to herself avoiding her mother and sister as much as possible, she developed fever, that refused to go, she was having a dry cough, lost of appetite and mood swings .

“Lora why are you picking your food? You’re looking pale.”

Mrs Susan Osuji said over dinner.

Lora was scared of eating, because she felt knew she would have to to and puke, and she didn’t want her mum to ask questions.

Her mum had gotten her drugs from a pharmacy, which was not helping.

“Lora get ready, I’m going to take you to the hospital , to run some test, your fever isn’t reducing.”

Lora didn’t want to go .

“Mum I’ll be fine, I don’t want to go to any hospital.”

Lara chuckled at her mother’s ignorance .

“Mummy don’t tell me , you don’t see that Lora is pregnant?”

She said with a tone of mockery, Lora gave her a dangerous head to toe look .

Mrs Susan drove with Lora to the hospital. They waited for several hours, for the doctor to get to their turn, Immediately the doctor saw Lora’s face, after they had seated, she asked.

“Lora were you abused by anyone ?”

Lora shook her head.

“Did you have unprotected sex recently?”

Mrs Susan looked confused, and stared at daughter who was speechless, looking dumbfounded at the doctor, she ran away with her gaze from her mum’s.

“Madam I’ve written some test results you have to run in the lab. Please tell them , I need the results urgently, give the file to Dr.Akande,he all make sure, your samples are taken, and the test is done immediately.”

Mrs Susan took Lora to the lab , she paid, blood samples was taken and in two hours , the result was ready, the doctor studied the results for some minutes.

“Madam your daughter is three months pregnant, I’ll write her some drugs that would help with the fever and cough.”

Mrs Susan was volcanic eruption of anger .

” Doctor please my daughter is too young to have a daughter, her education would be ruined! Can you help us?

The doctor was puzzled, she didn’t know how, she was supposed to help.

“Madam I don’t understand what you mean? Your daughter is not actually sick, she’s just pregnant, with some few drugs, she would be fine.”

Mrs Susan summoned courage to say .

“Doctor I want an abort…”

Lora looked at her with shock over her face.

“Sorry madam, I can’t do that, its unethical, let her keep the baby.”

Mrs Susan was furious,She pulled Lora up from the doctors office .

“Madam be gentle with her you know her condition is delicate… Please take your prescription….”

Mrs Susan dragged Lora out and banged the door ,She dragged her striding through the crowd of watchful eyes , like an soldier,until they got into her car.

“Lora! What have I ever done wrong ! Is giving birth to you a crime? You’re going to remove that thing in your stomach!! You’re not going to keep give birth to that bastard.not in my house! You will get married responsibly, like a normal woman, you can never end like me .”

Lora didn’t want to abort her baby,she rubbed her hands on her flat stomach that had not started bulging, and felt her baby kick .

“Mum I’m keeping my baby! I won’t abort , you pushed me out! And I ended up in the arms of my friend, where I ran to in search of love! I got pregnant, mum I’m keeping this Baby.”

Mrs Susan was mad with rage. She slapped Lora and drove her home, Where the beating continued.

“Hello Dr Cletus , please can you come to my house? I have something to discuss with you .”

Cletus was the owner of the

pharmacy on the estate , he worked in a government hospital in town in the morning, then returned to his pharmacy in the evening. He drove to the Osuji’s apartment at nine PM. Mrs Susan had a long discussion with him , he promised to return the morning . She stayed home ,the next day , Dr Cletus came to the house and gave Lora an injection to abort her fetus.
