Life to me had turned really, really upside down.. I have no real job, no friends, and most of all, NO BOYFRIEND.

After Ben left… I didn’t know what to do.. In fact I couldn’t think straight.. I was expecting him to apologize for what he was accused of but to my surprise he left and left the painting he did of me..

I wanted to throw the picture away the picture but it was so beautiful.. And well painted, Ben had really captured me so well. Believe me, I spent hours dropping tears from my eyes as I stared at the picture..

Something in my mind told me I had made a grave mistake… Maybe I should have allowed him to explain himself..

My mom had heard about What was said about Ben and she came to talk to me about it.. But when she came and saw how miserable I was.. She was alarmed.

Vanessa Jesus… Miranda what’s wrong with you?

Miranda (cries) Mom… I messed.. up..

Vanessa Shush, it’s all right my dear.. I’ve heard what happened from Tina..

Miranda But Mom.. What if he was telling the truth…

Vanessa That’s what I came to talk to you about.. Don’t listen to those vile women.. That Ben isn’t the kind of guy that cheats on women, I’ve talked and spent some time with him that night at Tina’s party.. Believe me.. He’s not like those kind of men that mingle with women like these.

Miranda But mom, you don’t understand.. Ben and I are… We broke up..

Vanessa WHAT?? When did that happen?

Miranda Five days ago.. Mom he just left without looking back.. Don’t I mean anything to him.. He didn’t even bother calling or texting..

Vanessa Knowing you.. I know you made him leave with that your boyish temper.. Try calling him..you know talk things out and try to mend things up between the both of you.

Vanessa Why?

Miranda I won’t call him..

Vanessa Miranda.. You have a big problem.. You miss him and you won’t call him to talk things out.

Miranda I never said I missed him.

Vanessa But you do.. Don’t you?

Miranda Mom, Just leave me alone okay.. I need some time to myself alone.

Vanessa Okay o.. If I were you, I’d call Ben after all, it was your fault he left, you should have listened to him before you blasted him off.. You’d better make haste, he won’t be free for long.

After that Mom left, I do want to call Ben but I wanted him to make the first move before we patch things up but not for once did he bother to try to contact me in any way.

A while later, I went to my part time jib at the bowling alley, my own shift was this afternoon, Luckily for me, customers don’t usually patronize the place in the afternoon so it gives me time to sleep and relax.

Few hours later as I was busy listening to some music through my head phones.. One white lady and her 4 little kids came into the place.. I couldn’t help but stare at them in wonder.. The kids were so cute and they were all twins not quadruplets but each twins was different than the one. Their mother sat on the bench lacing her shoes while the kids roamed about.

Then suddenly one of the kids grabbed a bowl ball and came straight at me asking me where to throw it.

Alexander Excuse me miss.. Which way is the correct lane where I’m supposed to throw this.

Miranda Drop it little guy.. You might hurt yourself..

Alexander Okay.

Before I knew what was happening, The little rascal dropped the bowling ball on my foot.. I shouted out loud in pain jumping up as I let go of my phone on the ground grabbing my foot and in the process of doing that, I slipped and fell on the phone.. The cracking sound convinced me that my phone was way beyond repair.

Any African child would have apologized for what’s he’s done but this little white imp was just laughing.. I wanted to slap the day lights out of him but he was just so cute and so little to receive that kind of slap. So I decided to scold him thoroughly.

Miranda Naughty boy.. Why did you drop it on my leg.. And can’t you apologize?

Alexander It’s not my fault, i didn’t know your foot was in the way and you told me to drop the ball and I did.

I couldn’t say anything after that, the boy had a genuine point.. As I was trying to get up, The boy’s mother came towards us.. From the look on her face, I could tell she must have saw what happened.. As she got there, she pulled the boy towards her and smacked him all over.. I was surprised cause I thought white people don’t beat their kids except to give them punishment like the one they usually say “YOU’RE GROUNDED”

The boy cried of course and I felt sorry for him.. So I decided to intervene on his behalf.

Carol Alex junior.. You’re going to be in big mess when you get home.. Now look what you’ve done..

Alexander (fires) but it wasn’t my fault..

Carol Hold your tongue else..

Miranda Please don’t beat him.. It’s not his fault, he was doing what I told him to.

Carol If he hadn’t taken the ball, this wouldn’t have happened. Come on.. Go back to your sister and make sure you stay put.. Understand?

The little guy walked away slowly without uttering a word, After he was gone, his mother apologized on what had happened.

Carol I’m really sorry foe what happened to you, please let me pay you for phone.. I insist.

Miranda No.. Its okay, I have another one.. (for where)

Carol Seriously.. Let me pay for the damages..

Miranda Please, don’t. It’s fine.

Carol Okay.. Hold on.. I know you.. You’re the one who’s picture has been turning guys crazy with lust on television.

Miranda Yeah, its me.. I’m sorry if your husband has been….

I took a deep breath and told Carol everything from the day I met Ben to this present.. Carol laughed to my surprise and tapped my back.

Carol Babe.. I’ve been there as well.. You shouldn’t listen to anyone till you see it for yourself.. I mean that Olivia lady is your nemesis right and you know we women would go to any lengths to get something done..

That Olivia used her friend to get to you.. And it worked.. Now who’s the loser? It’s you.. You’re here sulking and she’s out there laughing at your back. The Olivia sure reminds me of my own rival Sandra.

Miranda Sandra? What did she do to you?

Carol Oh, the btch had gotten pregnant for man and claimed it was for Alex, I fell for it of course but when I found out the truth.. I gave the btch a beating she’ll never forget.

Miranda So what should I do now?

Carol Look, in my relationship with Alex I’ve Learnt one thing and that is trust.. Trust is the backbone of any relationship.. Without that it won’t work.. I may not know what happened, but you should talk things out with your Ben.. That is if you truly love him and if he really does love you, he’ll listen and forgive you.. There’s always a second chance..

As we were talking to each other, A man walked into the place.. I have to say he was quite dashing and had attractive features all around him.. Just then the white kids ran to his place jumping on him.. The man began to play with them raising them up high in the air.

From my guess that was the Alex, Carol was telling me about.

Carol Oh my.. Alex is here.. It’s nice seeing you.. Bye..

Miranda Bye..

Carol hurriedly went to him and gave him a loving kiss, Her husband held her waist as they kissed.. Their kids however went laughing and staring at them.. Making funny gestures as they imitated the way their parents were kissing, after that, They all left the bowling alley.. I really felt jealous of Carol at the time.. She had everything a woman could ever want.. And I hope I too get this kind of loving family someday.

So after my shift was over, I left the alley and went home.. I was on the streets heading home around 5:00pm, when I saw a call from my mom..

Miranda Hello, mom? What..

Vanessa Come to Garki hospital.. Quick!!!

Miranda Is something….

Vanessa JUST COME!!!

Miranda Okay, okay.. I’m not my way.

I hurriedly boarded a Taxi and went to the hospital, minutes later I arrived and hurried into the hospital premises.. As I got in, I saw my mom in the reception.. She was busy walking from left to right.. I called out to her and she hurriedly came to where I was.

Miranda Mama.. What’s wrong?

Vanessa It’s your sister.. She’s seriously injured. That Olivia lady and some other lady are here as well.

Miranda WHAT? IS SHE ALRIGHT? WHERE’S THE ROOM?

My mom dragged me to where Tina was.. As we got into the room, I saw Tina’s arm in a bandage, she wasn’t that hurt as mom said.. Tina was busy tapping on her iPhone with her other hands, on the laps was a burger and creamy chocolate drink covered in whipped cream…. Was this the serious injury, she got?

Miranda WHAT? I don’t understand..

Vanessa Can’t you see your sister is injured?

Miranda Mom but you said it was serious..

Vanessa Isn’t this serious? What were you expecting to see? A broken neck or leg?

Miranda Mom. Don’t start now.. I’m very exhausted and tired.. Besides what happened to Olivia.

Tina Its all a lie.. Ben was never like that.. She said all those things to make you and Ben break up and guess who made her do it..

Vanessa Relax, see how your temper is jumping.. Cool down before you do anything stupid.

Miranda But mom.. She ruined my relationship… GOD, I’M SUCH A FOOL… I SHOULDN’T HAVE LISTENED TO SUCH LIES.

Tina Yes.. Olivia and I were at work when her friend showed up and began accusing her for posting her pictures online like she did yours.. I was surprised when I heard that but nothing shocked me more than what came after.. They began throwing insults and curses at each other, Gina then confessed that what she said about Ben was a lie.. She said she had only helped Olivia to make her evil plan succeed after that revelation, A fight broke out.. They were fighting for real punching, biting and pinching each other, it was fun watching them at first but then I saw how brutal it had gotten and I decided to separate them but as you can see I got injured but mine is way better than the injury they both got..

Miranda Where are they?

Vanessa They’re in the next room..

I left the room and went to where Olivia and her now enemy was, as I got in, they’re were in bed, with bandages all over them.. Gina had hers on her neck while Olivia had hers on her on the left side of her face.. As she noticed my presence, she began to shout at me.

Olivia What are you doing here? You came to laugh at me abi?

Miranda I was but seeing you like this is good enough for me.. After all you tried to destroy my life and reputation and it almost worked but it seems yours is already over.

Olivia GO TO HELL!!! YOU B*TCH….

Miranda See you on the unemployment section, B*tch.. Enjoy your new look..

I left immediately before Olivia could throw any insults at me.. At that moment, I wanted to call Ben but I remembered my phone was smashed to pieces.. As I was busy thinking of a way to contact Ben.. Jim showed up and came to me.

Jim Hey Miranda, its been a while.

Miranda Hi Jim..

Jim So how’s work?

Miranda I’m still managing… Are you here to see Tina?

Jim Yes, I heard about what happened and it seems Olivia is the cause of it..

Miranda Obviously..

Jim Well, things won’t be so good for her.. Her sponsors and managers are thinking of giving her the boot.. And some of the worlds famous sponsors are begging me to make you accept the offer of being their model.

Miranda Welk, I don’t need to tell you what my answer is…

Jim Yeah.. Well, here’s a ticket to a Art show that would commence this week.. Since you’re an art freak.. I’m sure you’ll love it..

Jim left me alone standing holding the ticket shows in my hands.. Finally this was what I needed to get my mind of my worries.. After the show maybe I’ll go to Lagos and patch things up with Ben.. I just hope he hasn’t found someone yet.
