A Letter Of Choice

" Just open those beautiful brown eyes for me, Xander..." I muttered under my breath, tracing a heart on his palm. It's been already 1 month, and I'm still waiting by his bedside--- I was long discharged.

The doctors labelled him as a patient who is in a coma, but I'll never come close to saying that. Maybe it was because I never enjoyed facing reality.

I rather label him as sleeping beauty, one who will wake up when the time comes. He will wake up. Soon.

I was only 20 years old, and having possibly the first love of your life in a coma before your eyes is something I never imagined myself seeing.

A knock on the ward door snaps me out of my gaze. By the door stood Blake with a sympathetic smile.

" I have something for you, Alexander wanted me to pass it to you." I frowned upon hearing his words.

"Why would he give you a letter for me when he could just give it to me himself?" Something didn't feel right.

Blake took a seat beside me, rubbing his arms. " He wanted me to pass it to you in case he didn't return back from saving you."

It felt like an atomic bomb just dropped before me. It felt as though the air in my lungs was slowly sucked out.

" And you just let him go?! Fuck, this is all my fault!" I stood up abruptly, walking over to the window.

" Maybe if I didn't treat him so harshly or go uncovering his past...this wouldn't have happened. Jesus! I bet he hates me! I always thought he was unreasonable but look at me, I'm undeserving of him." I glanced over my shoulder to see Blake with a smile plastered on his lips.

Why was he so happy? Especially at this moment?

Blake lets out a laugh of disbelief, stretching his arms.

" Come over here lil' bro," his voice was gentle.

Heading over to him, Blake held out Alexander's wrist.

" Now tell me he doesn't love you? "

On his wrist, was a new tattoo -- still slightly fresh. I examined the tattoo.

It was a small paintbrush tattoed on his wrist, it was so simple yet intriguing. I let my fingers trace over it gently, biting my lip to hold back the tears.

Blake draped his arm around my shoulder. " You know why he never tattoed his wrists till recently?" He paused.

" Alexander told me that he wanted to follow what hid mom did. His mom told him to only tattoo on hid wrists something that represents someone important in his life, possibly a person he loves or changed his life. And it's you, Gabriel. That's why I find it so ridiculous that you even come to think that he hates you." My eyes were glossy, at the brim of tears. 8

I rested my face in my palms. Why do the best people always come upon the nearest chances of death or unfortunate incidents? 8

I swallowed hard. Blake passed me the letter with a nudge.

" I'll leave you to it." 5

I was alone once more, with a sleeping Alexander of course.

" If you can hear this now Xander, I'm sorry...for not loving you the way you deserve to be. Why do we always end like this? With one always hurt, always leaving each other with a memory of a kiss. To be brutally honest, when you wake up, I might hit you with a pan for being so stupid to save me. But...I really do love you Alexander." I plant a kiss on his forehead before tearing open the envelope.

Here we go...

Dear Gabriel,

Where do I begin? Hi, hello, Hola (?) You know I'm the worse at easing tension, but I'm gonna dive right in anyway. If you're reading this letter, something might have happened to me or maybe I'm dead now... but there's something important I need you to know & follow . I want you to continue living your life. I want you to move on, let me go. Don't waste your time overthinking and instead follow your dreams. Remember the night when I asked you what your dream was? Well, do just that. Along with this letter id a phone number. So hit my friend up and he'll organise a world tour for you, bring a friend along too. I want you to accomplish your dream of travelling the world & see all the art works of the world. You deserve it. 1

I licked my chapped lips, holding back the tears that were threatening to fall.

How can I just leave him? 3

How does he expect me to move on with my life when he became everything my life revolves around?

I let my fingers carass his cheek, admiring those freckles that danced across his nose. Taking a deep breath, I gave him one last look over befire exiting the room. There were many others waiting to have a moment with Alexander, and I was very sure I annoyed many of them --- hogging the room for hours.

" Kai, wait up! " I jogged over to Kai who was heading to the coffee shop.

Adjusting his glasses that rested on his nose, he gestured to follow him.

I decided to find a seat while he ordered us coffee.

" How you feeling bro?" Kai began as he took a seat.

" Not good if I'm being honest." I took a sip of my coffee.

"You have all the right to feel low Gabriel, I see the way you both look at each other. It's love, it really is." I smiled softly upon hearing Kai's words. I couldn't have asked for a better brother.

Pulling the letter out from my pocket, I slid it across the table. I trusted Kai enough to allow him to read it. I watched his eyes move across each sentence.

" What should I do Kai...I can't just leave him." I leaned back with a heavy sigh.

" If this would make him happy, I say do it. Both you and him need time. He won't wake up tomorrow Gabriel, let's be real. And you...you need time away from everyone. Recover and come back stronger." Kai squeezed my hand before continuing.

" I'll be here and you'll be the first I call if there any updates on Alexander, I promise. What do you think...?"

I massaged my forehead in thought. I would do anything to make Alexander smile but should I really leave him when he's in this condition?

However, at the same time, I trusted Kai with all my heart, I knew he would look out for Alexander.

" I'll...I'll go." I announced which made Kai nod with a smile.

" I won't go alone though." I added on which brought a frown to Kai's face. He eyed me curiosity, unsure of who I'll bring along. Alexander told me that I could bring someone along with me so I might as well bring someone special.

" Angie will be coming with me. If Alexander can't look after her at the moment, the least I could do for him is ensure she keeps smiling and is taken care of. "
