Jake was surprised to see his grandfather sitting in the living room at that hour of the night. He had been expecting him to be in his room, since the doctor has recommended a 14 days bed rest for him.

“Grandfather” Jake greeted with a bow which his grandfather replied with a curt nod.

“It’s either you’re really trying to kill yourself or you’re trying to wear me out” Jake said to his grandfather as he took his seat on the sofa opposite him.

“And it’s that why you came back in a taxi? Where’s your car?” Grandfather replied with a question of his own. His butler had seen Jake entering the residence in a taxi.

“It’s with Blake” Jake replied.

“Then why are you looking so sullen?” Grandfather Beau asked. He was a really observant person. He knew his grandchildren well.

“What do you expect when I’ve been worried about you and taking care of the company at same time. You just had to choose this time to make me pick up the reins of the company, how perfect” Jake complained as he leaned back on the sofa.

“You don’t like doing both? But you shouldn’t be worried about me”

“And why won’t I be. I’m not always at home all day and I can’t stop thinking Hillary might show up here again. And you’re yet to tell me what you both talked about” Jake said looking intently at his grandfather, who has been tight lipped about his conversation with Hillary.

“That doesn’t concern you. You should focus on the company more”

“Did your bringing me in have something to do with Hillary? You knew she was returning didn’t you?” Jake asked curiously.

“I heard you have a new project, is it true?” Grandfather Beau said changing the topic, while Jake signed exasperatedly.

“Then if you heard it, then it must be true” Jake said standing up to leave.

“Why are getting up? Angry?”

“Grandfather you should know better than to keep stuffs from me. I’m not a child who needs your protection anymore. So if you want to hide things from me, then I better retire to my bedroom” He said bowing to his grandfather before heading to his room.

If his grandfather wants to keep things from him, then he’ll have to unearth whatever it is.

KARAOKE PLACE

Amy and Jade spent a long time singing different genre of songs. Amy didn’t mind doing all that as far as she made Jade feel better.

Jade was totally grateful to Amy for keeping her company tonight and for really trying to cheer her up.

“I heard you haven’t been to work for days now. Are you trying to get fired?…that’s only if you aren’t fired already” Amy said looking at her as they got ready to leave. It has been a tiring day for both of them. Amy had hurried over to Jade’s place after work, so she hadn’t rested the whole day.

“I took a sick leave actually” Jade replied.

“So when will you be returning back to work. Remember this is just the fifth month of your internship”

“I know, but…” Jade let her words trail off.

“But what?” Amy asked looking at Jade intensely. She could tell what was going through Jade’s mind at the moment.

“You’re not thinking of leaving your job, are you?” Amy asked curiously, while Jade shrugged in way that affirmed to her thoughts.

“Are you crazy?” Amy asked looking at Jade incredulously. She couldn’t believe Jade was thinking about something like that.

“You can’t leave your job. That’s unacceptable” Amy said in a flash of anger. She knew how Jade was feeling at the moment, but she also didn’t think it was right for Jade to leave her job because of Cale. It wasn’t easy for Jade to attain her internship spot at Xenox Inc. Xenox was one of the leading gaming company in the country, if not the continent.

Jade had helped Cale tremendously in gaining a job there and had also walked her ass off into acquiring her internship at the company.

Amy felt Cale wasn’t worth the hassle and sacrifice of losing a lifetime opportunity or worst, ruining her life chances for a total jerk.

“It definitely won’t be comfortable working with Cale at same company anymore” Jade said sadly. She really did love her job, and she was fully aware it might be next to impossible to gain an internship in any reputable company at the moment if she was to reapply.

“Jade!”

“Just let me think about it. I’m not so sure of anything right now” Jade said dismissively, while Amy looked at her exasparetedly as they walked out of the karaoke place.

“Promise not to think so much about all of this, but do think about how important your job is” Amy said giving Jade a hug.

“Sure” Jade said with a nod.

“Then I’ll call to check up on you tomorrow. And Jade don’t quit your job okay. I love you” Amy said before putting Jade into a waiting cab. She waved at her as the taxi drove away before getting in another taxi.

______

Jade had cried last night after returning back home. She had thought about all that happened at the hospital with Cale and about her conversation with Amy. She felt Amy was right about what she had said. She had woken up the next morning with a new resolve. She shouldn’t give up on such a great opportunity because of a man who didn’t love and value her. She was going to get her shit together and live her life beautifully and not sulk or whine for a man who doesn’t deserve her and who’s probably lying in the arms of another woman right now.

She had worked hard enough to get to where she was today and she’d be damned to ruin her life because of Cale.

Yes she might have loved him like no other and she couldn’t say she has totally gotten over everything yet, but she also believed she deserves better. And she was definitely going to get what she deserved, ‘better’.

She got out of bed and rushed into the bathroom to get herself ready for work.

She put on a nude color slit skirt, nude camisole and a black blazer which she paired with a black plump heels. She stretched her hair and packed it in a bun at the back of her head and applied her favorite lip balm.

She looked at herself in the mirror and she was pleased with her look.

“You can do this Jade” She said to herself before leaving her bedroom.

Grace and Kelvin were both shocked when they both saw Jade walk into the living room.

Kelvin looked at their mother with wide eyes before glancing back at Jade. A grin appeared on Grace’s face. This was too good to be true. They couldn’t believe their eyes as they saw Jade looking pretty and obviously ready for work.

“Mom, I’m not seeing things am I?” Kelvin asked in disbelief with his eyes still staring at his sister.

“You’re definitely not” Grace replied almost in a whisper.

“And why are you guys staring at me like you haven’t seen me before?” Jade asked as she dropped her bag and took her seat at the dinning table.

“Well it’s not like we haven’t seen you before, it just…you took us by surprise” Grace explained with a smile.

“Sis you’re really going to work right?” Kelvin asked just to be sure things were exactly as it seemed. Just last night his sister was moving like a walking dead with big dark circles and a sulken mood. But now she was looking good and vibrant like she wasn’t the same person he had seen last night.

“Yea, I am” She replied as she served herself breakfast.

“You are not leaving your job?” Kelvin asked again.

“No. Why would I want to leave my job?” Jade asked back before taking a bite of her toasted bread.

“Amy said you wanted to” Grace replied. She was just as curious as Kelvin.

“Well I’m not. As you both can see, I’m ready to report back to work” Jade said. She couldn’t believe Amy would tell her family about it. Thank God she had changed her mind about this.

“That’s good” Grace said with a smile. She was happy to see that her daughter was gradually getting her life back in order.

“But that scumbag still works there. Sis, tell me if he bothers you at work okay. I’ll teach him a good lesson for you” Kelvin said in all seriousness.

“Yes sir” Jade said in mock politeness as she got up to leave.

“I’ll see you guys later”

“But you haven’t finished your meal” Grace said with a frown when she noticed Jade had barely finished her breakfast.

“I love you both” Jade called out as she walked out of the house.

Jade had only arrived the company when she received a call from Amy.

“Hey girlfriend” Amy greeted cheerily.

“Thank you for telling my mom about what we talked about yesterday” Jade said sarcastically.

“You’re welcome baby. Now tell me you’re at work already”

“I’m at work already” Jade replied repetitively.

“That’s my girl. You’ve got to show that bastard that you’re not a push over. Show him you are way above his league both intellectually and emotionally” Amy said in a happy tone. She couldn’t be any much happier that Jade was not caving away in hurt.

“I hope you’re dressed well for your emotional rebirth. I really hope you’re dressed to make that bastard uncomfortable all day” Amy asked suspiciously. Jade was not a fashion person but she could still dress herself to look pretty when the time calls for it.

Jade looked down at her outfit and said, “I think I look good enough. I wouldn’t want to change myself because of him. You taught me that right?” Jade said.

“I did, but you also…Jade I’m going to have to call you back” Amy said her latter words in a whisper before abruptly ending the call, when she saw the man that appeared before her desk with a smoothering smile.

‘Blake Beau’ Her heart squealed excitedly.
