No one needed to tell me that I could never marry a man like Ryan.

I had thought that he was an angel.

But that aggressive and self centered part of him, I had not seen it earlier.

Thank God I had waited.

How could he spoil our plans?

How could he???

I had fallen out of love the moment I had seen that side of him.

Raymond didn’t contact me for two months.

Was he just being faithful to his friend or just staying away from trouble?

The moment Raymond stopped calling was when I realized that all these while, I didn’t have a true friend except him.

Raymond was the friend I never had.

As I walked to Sparkles ladies room to relieve myself.

I saw Gretta’s two friends right there.

Clara and Diana.

Diana was crying and Clara was trying to comfort her.

“What happened?”. I asked worriedly.

Diana made eyes at me and looked away. “I don’t talk to murderers”.

Clara met my eyes. “Gretta’s secret book. We read it and found out that our friend had suffered so much and she didn’t tell us anything”.

Diana glared at me. “But why? Why did you kill her? She always talked about you. She liked you”.

“I didn’t kill her”. I managed to say but when I saw that no one was believing me, I walked out of the toilet.

The urine that was trying to press out of my bladder before had disappeared.

I walked into my office and tears filled my eyes.

Hope someone somewhere still believed that I didn’t kill Gretta.

Someone…

Someone knocked on the door to my office and walked in.

Clara.

She looked pitifully at me. “You don’t have to pay attention to Diana, she is usually rash with her words and she was closer to Gretta than I was. I hope you don’t take it to heart that she accused you”.

I watched her closely. “What about you? Do you believe that I killed her?”.

“Have you forgotten that adage? A person that everyone suspects is not usually the killer”.

Mirabel sent me to deliver an information to the manager in his office upstairs.

As I returned from his office, Ryan appeared at the far end of the stair case .

My heart slipped at the sight of him.

He went on his knees. “I am sorry about what I did two months ago. I am sorry about everything”.

“Are you satisfied? Raymond has not contacted me for two months. I don’t even know whether he is having a hard time because of you”.

“Why do you care about Raymond so much?”.

“…when i was struggling to change myself, Raymond reached into my soul”. Tears filled my eyes.

“You love him? You love Raymond?”.

I walked past him but he held back at my hand.

“Answer me before you go. Do you love Raymond or not?”.

“We just barely spent a month together! How can I love someone in just one month?”.

“Is that your only stress? The time you knew him?”.

“Yes! I miss him and I don’t even know if he is having a hard time”. I frustratedly walked into my office.

It was lunch hour.

I headed to the cafeteria.

None of the workers ever sat with me to eat, including Benson, my friend.

The food was bland in my mouth.

As I eat on, I caught Diana glaring at me and whispering ‘Murderer’.

It felt so frustrating.

I had changed for good now, why can’t anyone still believe in me?

Suddenly, a person placed a tray on my table.

I looked up at the person.

It was Raymond Maxson.

I was nearly out of breath at the sight of him.

I didn’t mind my manners, I began to cry like a baby.

He walked to me, wrapped his arm around me and kissed me on my forehead. “It is alright, Rosa. I promise never to leave your side again”.

I observed him closely. “Are you okay? How have you been all those while? Did you even eat well at all?”.

He chuckled and squeezed my cheek. “I am perfectly fine”.

We hugged.

After eating, we trudged to Sparkles parking lot, holding hands.

“Were you able to continue on the case while we were not together?” I asked him.

He cleared his throat. “Steve Austin remained in Nigeria. He didn’t go abroad anymore”.

“Why?”.

“I don’t know yet. He never visited Nathan since that day that Ryan had spoilt our plans”.

“Why?”.

“It is obvious that they usually meet somewhere else”.

I nodded thoughtfully.

We had fun again at the amusement park that day.

…and I forgot all my worries.

Raymond had brought light to my dark day.

“Your B.P arose again”. Doctor Cole told Dominic.

She nodded thoughtfully. “I got myself thinking again”.

“Why? Ryan?”.

“No, my sister”.

“What happened?”.

“She still believes that i am part of those that condemn her. She has no idea that I took up this case to prove to the whole world that my sister didn’t do what she was accused of”.

He nodded. “Are you sure you don’t want to tell her?”.

“No, if I do, she will see more reason to let go of Ryan for me and I don’t want her to sacrifice that much for me”.

“Are you sure you want your sister for Ryan?”.

“Why not?”.

“Ryan is the angel you don’t know”.

“How do you mean?”.

“He told me two months ago that I should do everything to make you fall in love with me so that you can convince Rosa that you don’t love me and she can go back to him again. He told me that if I didn’t do it, he would sack my parents from KIA motors”.

I had just finished making a video call with Raymond that evening.

We had even sang together.

It felt so exciting that Raymond was back for real.

Suddenly I heard my dad call my name from the sitting room.

I rushed to the sitting room.

My sister had just returned.

“The both of you should sit down! I have something important to tell you”.

We sat down on the cushion obediently just like we had always done since we were kids.

He cleared his throat. “I met Judge Joel Maxson today, and guess what! He told me that Rosa is a murderer. He told me that he wouldn’t mind locking her behind bars irrespective of our friendship! You know why I am telling you this? I don’t want you to have anything to do with that man! Dominic, I will find another law firm for you, and you, Rosa, I don’t want you to have anything to do with his son again”.
