Lillian’s POV

I was indeed shocked at the way Nate poured out his feelings to me and I didn’t know what to say I mean I liked him but I wasn’t sure he really loved me or he was just using me to pass time. So what I did was that I told him to give me some time to think about it. He said that I should take all the time I need and that he would be here waiting for my reply and he drove me back to school. On the ride to school, I was silent all through and he noticed and he asked are you okay? He added you had a faraway look on your face. I told him I was okay and that I was just thinking and he asked about what? I said never mind and I turned on the radio in the car and the song which was playing was one of my all time favourites, it was Celine Dion’s my heart will go on and I started to hum the song. After a while Nate joined me and we hummed the rest of the song together. After the song finished playing, Nate complemented me by saying that you have a nice voice and I was like me? He said yes you; no one has ever told you that? I smiled and said thank you and I added you are not too bad yourself and he smiled and said thank you. I asked him so how come you like Celine Dion’s music? He asked why what do you mean? I said I thought that most guys liked gangster or rap music and not slow soppy songs like those of Celine Dion. He said first of all I’m not most guys and secondly to your question my mum loves those kinds of songs and in fact I practically grew up with songs like that. Finally we arrived the front of my hostel and he wanted to kiss me and I said hold up I’m not your girlfriend yet. He laughed and said a guy has to try doesn’t he? I got down from the vehicle and waved as he drove away. When I got into the room, I met Joan lying on her bed with a chemistry textbook on her chest and I said hi best friend what’s up? I added are you done preparing for your date with Paul? She said I’m done with all that and pointed to the door to her closet and I saw the most beautiful black gown hanging right there and she added thank god you are back I’m having trouble with this topic pointing to the textbook and I said give me a little time to freshen up and I’ll help you out with it. Then I went into the bathroom and did what I had to do and came out I dressed up and went to Joan’s bed and I asked her what topic are you having trouble with? She showed it to me but while I was trying to solve the topic, I wasn’t concentrating and Joan noticed it because I was cancelling and rewriting and doing same all over again. Joan asked is anything wrong? I said no and went back to trying to solve the topic but I was failing terribly at it. Joan held my hand up off the book and she looked into my eyes and said there is something wrong with you and she added what is it? I said that Nate just asked me to be his girlfriend and she jumped up and said oh my friend is going to have a boyfriend. She noticed that I was sad and she asked why the long face? I said I don’t know if he truly loves me or not and besides you were the one who told me that he was pompous and a ladies’ man before I came to this school and I said I don’t know what to do. She said you must be really stupid and I asked what do you mean? She said since you came around have you ever seen him with another girl or girls? I said no but and she asked but what? She added that guy loves you I can see it in his eyes any time he looks at you. She continued my only problem is why you haven’t noticed it yourself and she asked me and what did you say when he asked you to be his girlfriend? I said I told him that I needed some time to think about it. She said to think fast or else some other girl would come and snatch your man and she asked how do you feel about him? I said to tell you the truth I love him and I added I’ve loved him ever since the first day I saw him and she said that’s your answer and she added go get your man. I stood, went to my closet and pulled out the best gown I had and wore it and I picked my purse and cell phone and I asked would you be okay with that? Referring to the textbook and she said not to worry that she would be waiting for me when I get back. I went out of the room and took a bus to Nate’s place but on the way the bus broke down and I had to go the rest of the way on foot and I noticed that I was being followed by a group of four guys. I tried to outrun them but then tripped and fell and was cornered by them in a dark alley and they wanted to rape me and they dragged me to the middle of the street and wanted to do the deed right there. In fact they had torn my dress before Nate came out of nowhere and rescued me from the gangster rapists.
