Joan’s POV

When I walked into the hall at the FBI headquarters in Washington DC, with Paul at my side, all eyes were on us and I was feeling a bit uncomfortable but Paul gave my arm a light squeeze in order to assure me. Then Paul went on to introduce me to his co-workers I met and exchanged handshakes with almost all the high ranking officials of the FBI. We went and took our seats beside Lillian and Nate and Lillian introduced Nate to Paul saying Nate meet my friend Paul the person we are honouring today. Nate said so you are what all this fuss is about? Paul just smiled and they both exchanged handshakes and said it’s nice to meet you. Then the FBI director came on stage and said we are here to honour three fine agents. Agent Nicholas Octavo who is a 20 year veteran of the FBI, agent Amanda Elise who has been working here for about three years now and Agent Paul Davis who just started working here three months ago. Then he asked us I know you are wondering why they are being honoured today? He said don’t worry I’d tell you. He continued they busted up a human trafficking ring and arrested the most wanted human and drug trafficker in this country. He said that they were going to be given commendations for their very good work and they would even get medals. Then everyone in the hall started clapping and he invited the three of them on stage to say a few words. The most senior of them agent Nicholas Octavo went first he addressed the audience and after his speech he said thank you and we all gave him a round of applauds and the next person was agent Amanda Elise she was a very beautiful lady and I wondered if she worked with Paul on a regular basis. She also gave her speech and when she was done, the hall erupted in a round of applauds. It came time for Paul to give his own speech and he said that he was from a middle income family and that his dream ever since his girlfriend was murdered in front of him was to be a police officer. He continued I joined the NYPD about three years ago and when the opportunity came for me to join the FBI I jumped at it because I wanted everyone around me to feel safe. He added criminals be where your day of reckoning has come. He dropped the microphone and walked down the stage to a rapturous applauds. He came to where he left me sitting and asked can I have this dance? This was because at this time, a live band started playing some tunes. I said I thought you would never ask and we danced for minutes on end. While we were dancing, he looked into my eyes and said you look really beautiful and I said thank you and added you don’t look bad yourself. Then he said thank you and I asked for what? He said for coming into my life and for being you. After two hours the party was over and we all left the venue I left Lillian with Nate and Paul drove me to his house.

Nate’s POV

I was wondering why Lillian invited me to the party in honour of her friend Paul. I mean I liked her but I just wanted to know the reason why. So on our way back to school, I decided to ask her and she said that I was one of the first guys in school to introduce myself to her and besides she liked me a lot. I was driving at the time and when she said she liked me I forcefully stepped on the breaks and she asked what’s wrong? I said nothing and tried to start the car once again but the dam thing wouldn’t start. I stepped out of the vehicle and pushed it to the side of the road. Lillian asked looks like you are having some car trouble? I said yes and she asked me to pop the hood and I did and she went to the front of the car where the engine is located. After a couple of minutes, she said I should try to start the vehicle again and surprisingly it started. She shut the hood and came back to the seat beside me in the car. I asked her what did you do to make the car start? She told me that the car battery was disconnected and all she had to do was to reconnect it. I asked her where did you learn to fix cars? She said that her father used to own a car repair shop that was before he died. I sympathised with her and she said I’m all over it after all he died when I was ten. I asked her so before you were ten you were already fixing cars? She said no that after her father died and her mother developed cancer a few years ago she had to go work as a mechanic. I said oh I see. While we were talking I had already driven into the school compound and she asked where are you going? I said that I was going to drop her in front of her hostel and she said Oh no please don’t take me there Joan is with her boyfriend and I don’t want to be alone. I asked her so where would you like me to take you? She said to your place if it wouldn’t be a bother and so I changed direction and drove her to my house off campus. When we got there I parked the car and stepped out of the vehicle and opened the door for her to come out. When we got into the house it was a two bedroom flat with all the needed amenities by the way. Lillian remarked so this is how you rich kids live and I said yes pretty much and she sat on my sofa. She pulled her shoes and said my feet are killing me and I asked would you like a foot massage? She asked can you do that? I said yes took off my suit and folded the arms of my shirt then I told her that I’d be back and I went into my bedroom and brought out a bottle of oil and returned to the living room. I grabbed a stool and sat on it in front of her. I told her let me see it and she gave me her left foot and I went to work I took some of the oil and massaged it into her foot after which I asked her for the other one. She gave it to me and I did same to her right foot. While I was doing this she fell asleep on the couch. When I was done, I gently put her foot down and went to the kitchen to fix us something to eat. I was cooking spaghetti and some meat balls when she came to the kitchen and asked what are you doing? I said I was cooking and she said where I come from a lady does that. I smiled and said maybe next time when I come over to your house and I added you are my guest and so it’s my duty to feed you and she asked can I help? I told her to bring out the dishes for me to serve the food. When the food was done, I served it into two plates and I carried them to the living room and I set them down on the table I returned to the kitchen and brought out a jar of orange juice placed it on a tray with two glass cups and returned to the living room and set them on the table. I excused myself and went to take a shower. After 15 minutes I was done with the shower and I came back to the living room only to find Lillian hadn’t touched the food. I asked her what’s wrong? She said nothing that she was waiting for me and she added in my house we all sit at the table to eat together. I opened the food and Lillian smiled and said it looks appetising. I handed her a fork and she said thank you and she dug into the food and when she tasted the food she said this tastes really good and she asked who taught you how to cook like this? I said as she was close to her father, I was close to my mother and she was the one who taught me to cook. Just then we heard a knock on the door and I went to open and I met my mother at the door.
