Charles’s POV

I wasn’t in the least surprised at Diana’s gesture towards Lillian. She has always been like that always helping those who wronged her. It makes me remember when we were in high school, there was a bully who always took the food and or lunch money from us the junior students. Diana totally changed the bully’s attitude towards us by bringing two packs of food every day for herself and the bully to eat. I can remember the first day she did it. We were all scared that the bully was going to beat her up. But indeed the reverse was the case as the bully thanked her and they became the best of friends. It turned out that the bully was just hungry because he didn’t get enough food to eat at home and from that day he stopped bullying us. I can’t forget what she said when I asked her why she brought food for the bully and did not report him to the principal; she said the best way to conquer hate is by showing love to everyone even those who despise you. Enough of the reminiscing; now back to the story after Lillian was released from the police precinct, I drove her in the company of Diana to her house. I was driving my black Ferrari and I asked her for directions to her place. When we got there, it was like a celebration was going on in that area. I couldn’t find a place to park my car and the place was one of the highest crime areas in the state. When I finally found a place to park the car, we got down and we went to Lillian’s house. It was a one room apartment where her, her mother and two brothers stayed. Right then and there I decided to get them a new house. As Lillian was trying to open the door to enter the apartment, one of her neighbours, a young lady of about 25 came and told us that her mother was rushed to the hospital a few hours ago. I enquired as to Lillian’s mother’s situation and she told us that it didn’t look good. By this time Lillian was already in tears as she was crying for her mother. Then I asked the neighbour which hospital Lillian’s mother was rushed to? She told us Saint Andrews hospital. I told Lillian not to cry that its better we go to the hospital and find out from the doctor her mother’s situation and Diana agreed with me and we were on our way to the hospital. During the drive to the hospital, both Diana and Lillian sat at the back seat of the car while I drove and Diana tried her best to console Lillian. As soon as I pulled over at the hospital parking lot, Lillian bolted out of the car and Diana followed her.

Lillian’s POV

I got out of Charles’s car and ran as fast as my legs could carry me into the hospital. Once in the hospital, I asked the receptionist or the nurse at the front desk where my mother was? She told me to calm down then she asked me my mother’s name? I told her and she told me that my mother is in room 151. I ran to the said room and I found a nurse trying to connect a drip into my mother’s arm. The doctor was there giving the nurse instructions on what to do. When the doctor realised that I was in the room, he asked me what’s your relationship with the patient? I told him that she is my mother. By this time Charles and Diana had joined us in my mother’s hospital room. Then I asked the doctor please what’s wrong with my mother? And he told us to join him in his office. Once in the doctor’s office, the doctor took off his white suit and hung it on a hanger in the office and he offered us a seat and all three of us sat down. Diana asked the doctor what’s wrong with my mother? The doctor asked sorry who are you referring to Charles and Diana? Diana responded we are friends of the family and the doctor looked to me for confirmation and I gave it to him with a nod of my head in the affirmative. He asked apart from her cervical cancer? We all nodded in the affirmative and he said that my mother was just dehydrated and that he had ordered for her to be given a drip to get fluids into her system. He said on her cancer that it was still in stage one and if she could begin chemotherapy right now the cancerous cells could be completely eradicated from her system. Diana asked how much would it cost to begin the chemotherapy? The doctor said $50,000 I screamed where am I going to get such amount of money! Totally forgetting that Diana offered to pay for the treatment. Diana pulled out her credit card and asked the doctor where can I make the payment? He told her to go to the account department at the hospital to do so. The doctor said to us that my mother’s next of kin has to sign the paperwork for them to begin the treatment as my mother was unconscious. That honour fell to me as my dad was dead. I signed the paperwork with shaky hands and tears in my eyes and the doctor said that we should wait until my mother regained consciousness before they can start treating her.
