Bandit Baby - S01 E09

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 9

After telling me I cannot see the babies, I asked her to take me to the doctor’s office.

I was still without shirt and shoes and people were staring at me.

We got to the doctor’s office and I met two other men with him.

“Oh! Here is your man,” the doctor said as soon as he saw me.

The two men turned to my direction and surprises were written all over their faces.

As to who they were was not interested to me.

“Doctor why am I not allowed to see the babies?”

“No! No! No! No one is stopping you from seeing your babies. Just that the nurse is following protocols here. Where the babies are kept is not easily accessible by people, not without the management’s approval. In your case, you have been given approval to go there any time you want.”

“So can I go now please?”

“Yes, but not without clothes,” said one of the two men I met there.

They handed me a pair of shoes and a shirt.

After putting them on, we went to see the babies.

They were cute. For the first time seeing the other two, remember my light went off before the last two came out.

I shaded tears. Those were tears of joy, having seen them alive. Our efforts were not in vain.

I began to thank God as I cried along.

They were placed in the order they came out – the biggest first, down to the smallest.

“We were waiting for the names to call them, so we can issue them birth certificates,” said the doctor.

“This one is AYOMIDE, the second is EZEKIEL and the girl came last. Her name is ENOBONG.”

One of the men quickly wrote down the names.

“And your name please?”

“Ezekiel. Ezekiel Umoren.”

“So this one will be called Ayomide Ezekiel Umoren, and this one will be called…”

“No! No! No! Not really,” I interrupted. “They won’t answer my name because I am not their father.”

“Excuse me. What did you just say?” the doctor asked.

I began to narrate the whole story to them as we returned to the doctor’s office.

Little did I know that various news media were already saying I was the husband who turned midwife.

“Wow! This has never happened. Are you a medical student?” asked one of the men as I finished my story.

“No. I was just on my way to an interview, then it happened.”

“You did well. The whole social media space is agog with this development. You have a lot to tell the world,” said the doctor.

“So how do we locate the husband?” asked the other man.

“That’s not a problem. We’ll have to wait for the mother to wake up,” the other man said.

That was how we waited for three days before the mother woke up.

We spent five weeks at the hospital. We received various awards and gifts including cash gifts.

The babies were given scholarship up to the University level.

I was given a job. We had series of interview both with electronic and print media.

The nurse who cleaned me up became my friend.

Finally, we were ceremonially discharged.

Surprisingly, all through our stay, the husband did not come.

WHO REALLY WAS ENOBONG’S HUSBAND?

WHY DID SHE REALY NAME ONE OF THE BABIES AFTER ME?
