The death of Mrs Tom made Mr Tom more furious. When he walked up to his wife and saw she was dead he turned and walked away, he saw the body of Bruise in the ground but he said nothing, he just walked away.

The slaves were all scared and no one dared moved to the body. But Bush (Ukeh) did. He walked up to the already decomposing body and lifted it up and carried him far into the bush. He gathered woods from around and then he set the body ablaze. And just as he had promised Bruise, he gathered the ash and tied them in a nylon bag and went back to the ranch.

When he arrived master Tom sent for him.

“I saw you carry the body? What did you do to it?”

“I burnt it master” he replied. “It was already decomposed and unfit for the ground I had to burn it.

Master Tom looked at him and called his boys. And then he stands up

“Who gave you the permission to do that? Do you realize you are a slave bush? I gave an order that no one touches the body but you defiled me. Hold him down” he shouted

And he brings out a small knife. When Bush sees the knife he remembers it. It was his goodluck knife. He thought he lost it, he never knew it was with master Tom all along.

“I was linient with Brusie and look at what it caused me. If I become too calm for you, you will one day challenge me too”

With the knife, he sliced a part of Bush’s ear, and Bushed screamed so loud that the entire slave in the yard gathered outside.

“This will always remind you never to go against my order. ” Get out of my sight black stupid monkey.

Bush was bleeding so much. But he managed to walk out of the room and goes straight to his ranch. He had lost so much blood and was bleeding non stop.

The other slaves wanted to go to him but master Tom came out and stopped them.

“If any one of you foolish slaves go in there to render help to that son of a dog. I will have your head”

And one by one they turned and walked back inside thier ranch.

Smart walks up to Bush who was still whirling in pains on the ground.

“Help me please” Bush begged.

“Help you? Help you? You are one very stubborn boy you know? I have severally warned you not to go against masters order but you never listen. Now you want to drag me in with you?

“Please help me, my eyes are cover with blood I can’t see anything please”

Smart looked around and then carries a bowl of water and gives it to Bush.

“Take and wash the blood off your eyes. I can’t be seen with you if not I will be in serious problem. Please help yourself I am sorry.

And he turns and runs away while Bush lays in the ground crying.
