Finally getting a work as a mechanic, he worked as hard as he could and tried so hard to be just as efficient as they were. He avoided being the odd one out and this made his colleagues impressed. He learnt really fast and was one of the most hard working amongst all. Though he wasn’t as good as a professional but he worked just like a professional. He never behaved like someone ignorant and tried finding out what he hardly knew. His boss couldn’t believe be this. He thought of why a boy as smart as he was could be working amongst people like them instead of being in school.

Christian earned his first salary and showed it to his aunt against his sisters wish fearing she would collect it from him but she never did. Instead she blessed his earning and told him to save some of it for later use. He work much more harder and saved more money that after a few months he was able to rent himself a small apartment. His aunt seeing his effort tried supporting but he never accepted his support at all. Ladies admired him at work and gossiped about him just when they arrived from work after a stressful day.

“His wife will be so lucky to have him” One said to her friend who was buying roasted corn from a seller.

“Hmm… A man such as that will make sure his wife doesn’t complain of shortage of food at home. As I see him now, I don’t think he will be good way in two years time. God will surely upgrade him”

“But people do gossip that he is an illiterate. I don’t think he can go beyond this. That’s the life”

“Keep quiet my friend. If Dangote and Mark Zuckerberg could make it, why the hell can’t he make it? Those he laugh and make fun of him now will surely regret all this soon”

He was arriving from work a year later exhausted and hungry. His short was all stained with sweat and his some of his buttons had gotten loosed. He knew he would have to see the tailor soon. The sun took no mercy on him at all. He beard was getting really bushy now and he knew he would like to shave it but his sister kept telling him he better not which confused him. As he walked on dragging his feet unable to work anymore, he raised up his face to call for a bike and to his shock he saw a wealthy looking man instead bent over his car with a tensed look.

“Are you okay? ” He asked politely.

“Just get the hell lost. I didn’t call you” The man replied with a rude tone.

“It seems car isn’t good”

“Yes it isn’t. This crazy b---h had to break down here. Of the while places. I have to attend an important meeting on time. I have no idea how to get to office now. My driver isn’t picking up”

“I can help you sir. I am a mechanic” he had let him know pulling up his sleeves. The man threw him a disgusted look.

“No… No…. I won’t let you come near my car. This car is really expensive. I don’t need just anyone to handle it. I need an experienced mechanic”

“I am an experienced mechanic. I can help”

“Fine. Help me with this” The man finally gave in. Christian stared at his engine for a while and touched some few area before smiling. He tightened a bolt and requested for a new plug.

“Try the car now” Christian requested.

“This better be good else I will get you arrested ” The guy threatened him walking toward his car. He got into it and kicked it. To his surprise it started immediately.

“I will leave now sir” Christian told him in smiles. “Hope you arrive on time ” At this words he began again his journey under the hot sun. The young man stepped out giving him a stare.

“Wait! ” he urged. Christian turned back with a tensed look.

“What have I done now sir? ”

“Thank you. You are really a life saver ”

“It’s okay”

“Seriously, this deal meant a lot to my company. You don’t seem educated but you seem to have the skills man. You are like a machine”

“People say that… ”

“I want you to work for my father. Can you do it? ”

“I don’t understand ”

“Alright, I will explain better. My father owns a auto mobile where he has workers who manufacture cars and repair them as well. Expensive cars actually. I bet you can do it dude. Not only cars, power bikes, tricycles, anything that works on engine. You can work for as long as you want”

“I don’t think… ”

“Don’t be discouraged. You are good. You can do this. This is a big man business. You will be a special mechanic. You will more like a technical engineer. You will be more experienced. Don’t turn this down. It will make you rich”

“But… ”

“I am specially inviting you and my father listens to me. You don’t have much in your CV so? You will be trained and I will pay”

“I don’t know what to say sir. Thanks ”

“I am glad you understood my point… ” The gentleman brought out a card from his breast pocket showing his number. “call me if you need anything . Also come to the address on the card. The interview is next week Monday ”

“Thanks sir” Christian replied with a grin and began walking off. The gentleman recalled something and banged his head.

“My name is Stephen! I am Stephen” he had called on to him waving. The bead of sweat on Christian face didn’t bother him anymore. The heat didn’t either. He seemed so excited that he couldn’t stop grinning. The kind of grim he hadn’t had in years. He faces back with his cute dimples showing as usual at his new friend.
