I was walking down through the slum to my house when I heard someone call my name.It was Lucy’s father seated together with some elders.

I greeted them and Lucy’s father asked me to tell the elders what Lucy’s mother told me on the phone the previous day.

“Lucy’s mother told me on phone that Lucy’s father drove to her house this morning to see her family head.

She offered 200GH to the family head to be given to Lucy’s father after he complained a lot to the family head.

He had words that,Lucy’s mother went to Bro Mike’s house to add salt to injury.

She threatened that she would pay the money and find out who took the money.

The day she gave to pay back the money had passed,yet the money had not been paid.

She also complained that,Lucy belonged not only to her but to her father also,so they should share the money and pay because she did not have such an amount.

Her mother promised to give her some money but couldn’t fulfill her promise.Since her mother couldn’t give her the money she promised,she gave 200GH to Lucy’s father from her petty trading

but her father did not add a penny to the money,instead he gave the money to the family head to be given to Bro Mike.

The other elders started exchanging faces raising eye brows.Some critised Lucy’s father for not adding the rest of the money while some also supported him.

Those who supported him said that,since Lucy’s mother threatened Bro Mike to pay the money,she should be made to bear

the cost alone because she made it known to all and sundry that she could foot the bill all by herself.

Those in favour of her also said,she made an attempt paying the money but couldn’t get the money.Yet she paid some with the capital she gets.

Unlike Lucy’s father, she tried making an effort to pay.She was also right to say that Lucy’s father should pay part of the money because the elders say,when a gun strikes,it falls on the chest of a man.

One of the elders even suggested that Lucy’s mother’s money should be given to her and her father made to pay the full bill because in the Akan community,when

a man marries a woman and gives birth with the woman,he is made known that when the woman or the children brings something good,it is for

the mother and the children but when something bad happens,the man bears the cost…..
