We were all engrossed in watching the drama that was enfolding between Kim and the little girl.

I would have snapped, sincerely I would have because this occurrence was due to lack of professionalism but I didn’t snap because i was interested in whatever that was happening.

The little girl’s nanny rushed in a minute later apologizing profusely but the frown on Kim’s face shows that she was still annoyed,it was her fault that the girl left her sight to come and disrupt a meeting but that’s far from what is happening now.

The little girl was tugging on Kim’s neck like her life depended on it. She didn’t want to leave and we watched as they struggled to make an agreement. The girl was adamant on not leaving.

“You have to go with your nanny. You can’t stay here” kim told her for the uptheenth time and she shook her head again.

They were not loud,it was like a whisper but we still heard because the room was silent and everyone was interested in whatever was happening.

“Why mommy?”

“Because this is a meeting,you shouldn’t be here” she said again.

“But I want to stay with you” the girl pouted and I found it cute.

What’s wrong with you Ashton?

“I would be out in a few minutes,but you can’t just stay here” she told her still struggling to remove her hands that were wrapped around her neck.

That was a strong grip though.

“Mommy,I don’t want to go please” she begged.

Then the Tyler guy intervened by whispering something in her ear and she nodded immediately.

He seems to have a good relationship with the girl. He seems to be good with everything and it sucks.

F--k the guy.

“I would be a good girl, mommy. I promise I won’t disturb” she said raising her pinky finger.

What does that mean?

Kim closed her eyes before sighing, something I have learnt she does whenever she is stressed.

This was enough stress.

Tyler cleared his throat. “I am sorry for the disturbance. We honestly didn’t expect this to happen. I know this is unprofessional. I apologise” he said before gesturing to the nanny to leave the room.

“Really sorry about this. Like he said,we didn’t expect it…” Kim continued until one woman interrupted her.

“It’s okay. She is just a kid,you know you can’t predict what kids do” she said before smiling and others nodded.

“Is it alright for her to stay here Ashton?” I heard tyler ask facing me.

Not to sound proud,but they had to seek for my opinion right? This was my freaking building.

Say yes.

Say no,this is a meeting.

Just tell them this is highly unprofessional…but the girl was cute and most people already assented to her being here.

I can’t play the role of a sore thumb right and I didn’t want the girl to leave either if she feels comfortable with her mom and if it makes Kim HAPPY.

Not Tyler tho.

“Sure,she can” I said before focusing on the paperworks in front of me. “Let’s go on with the meeting then” I said again and several people nodded.

To say i was panicking inside right now was an understatement,I wanted this meeting to be over this instant so Charlotte and I can go home.

I didn’t expect what just happened after Tyler kept assuring me that she wouldn’t stray away from the watch of the nanny,but she did. She f-----g did and now she is exposed to every single person here including Ashton.

The f-----g ball shouldn’t have rolled to this room,not today,not here. When she entered looking for the ball,I almost spranged up from my seat but I decided not to,in case if she just picks the ball and leave.

I didn’t miss the look Ashton gave her,that was a long stare that definitely placed me on the edge of the chair,it was like he was thinking of something he couldn’t place well. I was terrified because the guy was smart and the moment he knows she is his daughter he would want to take her from me and that isn’t gonna happen,I promise that.

I was sincerely hoping she wasn’t going to recognize me among the people here,I even had to bend my head and pretend like i was engrossed in the paperworks but she still recognized me.

I didn’t expect him to agree to her being in here but he surprisingly agreed and I wasn’t happy about that,that little gesture made me squirm inwardly again. He shouldn’t show any act of kindness to her, Ashton wasn’t nice to kids and if anything kids freaked him out but him being nice to Charlotte doesn’t help matters at all.

I wanted him to not give a f--k about her,I wanted him to feel like she was just a random kid,then he won’t place two and two together that way. But if he kept on behaving this way it wouldn’t take long before everything comes out and I can’t risk that.

I can’t.

“Mommy” Charlotte called. She was presently in my arms with her head nudging against my neck.

“Yes baby” I said absentmindedly. The meeting was still in full swing, everyone was engrossed in the meeting except me of course and Ashton who kept on glancing my way putting me on the edge the more.

“I want to sleep” she told me twirling my hair between her fingers again.

“Sleep then,I would wake you up on our way home” I told her quietly.

“Okay” she paused. “Mommy?”

“Uhmm?”

“Are you mad at me?”. She asked softly and I shook my head immediately.

Can I ever be mad at her?

I don’t think so.

“No. Why would you say that?”

“I don’t know” she paused like she was thinking of something,her voice was sleepy. “Mommy, don’t be mad at me please. Remember Charlotte is a good girl” she said again her breath fanning my neck.

“I know you are and I am not mad at you. Go to sleep now”.

“I love you Mommy” she said again.

“Love you more” I said sincerely.

I love her so much and no one would take her away from me,I would do whatever it takes.

The meeting ended few minutes ago and Tyler urged me to accompany him to meet few of the people present.

According to him he said ‘we are a big business family now,we have to say hello to them’ much to my dismay because I was carrying a four year old child. Don’t get me wrong,I love carrying Charlotte but I didn’t like the idea of carrying her around why I went around the room with Tyler wasn’t a good idea.

I tried giving Charlotte to the nanny but she wouldn’t budge. She have always been clingy but she was extremely clingy today and it wasn’t helping matters because I had to carry her around with me.

We went round peacefully and Tyler did most of the talkings,I just had to butt in to drop a comment whenever they gush about how cute my daughter was.

Of course she was cute,she disrupted a meeting and now my head was working five times faster than it should because I was worried and edgy.

How cute Charlotte,how cute.

“Pass this way to the next floor Kim,I have to sign few papers in the next floor. I would be with you in a jiffy” Tyler informed me immediately we stepped out of the conference room.

“Okay”

“This route would be stress free because there is a secret exit in the next floor and you don’t have to bother about being mobbed by reporters” he said and I raised an eyebrow. “I know you wouldn’t want that and I don’t want to put you in an uncomfortable situation. I would be with you in few minutes,just be careful” he said before ruffling Charlotte’s hair and going through the opposite route. That was the route to the next floor.

Tyler have definitely studied this area to know the secret route. Of course I knew the route too,i and few of my ex colleagues might have passed here whenever they was reporters outside,on meetings like this and we would all sneak out through the route,it led to the garage.

The route was surprisingly silent and honestly I was glad that no one was walking around here. It gave me time to think and I couldn’t help but think of how desperate people were for attention,they all wanted to pass the main exit so the reporters can see them exiting the building. I.e they wanted to be in the news. No one was around this hallway but it wasn’t scary because there was light and i find it peaceful compared to how lousy today was.

“Mommy?”

“Yes baby” I said as we walked through the Long hallway.

“You didn’t come to pick me up today and you promised” she mumbled

Oh shit,she doesn’t do well with failed promises.

I stopped before dropping her down so I would be able to bend to her level “I am sorry,I wanted to but mommy was so busy that she wasn’t able to come and pick you up.” I told her.

“Really mommy?”

I nodded removing a stray hair from the side of her face. “Yes baby,I wanted to but I wasn’t able to. I would make it up to you”.

“Really Mommy? You promise?” She asked again but this time her face already lit up like I just mentioned santa Claus.

“Yes. I promise baby” I nodded before crossing my Pinky finger with her tiny one.

She was about to say something when she stopped looking behind me and I immediately turned to look at the person she was looking at .

It was Ashton,for Christ’s sake I wasn’t prepared for this yet not with Charlotte beside me. What was he doing here for Christ sake? I thought I already made it clear that I didn’t want to see him.

Not now please,I was far from ready for this even though I knew it was inevitable.

My breath hitched and my protective instinct rised up immediately because I stood up and dragged my daughter to my side but knowing Charlotte she still peeked her head out from my side.

“I saw this Mister” Charlotte said and he bent down to her level but I moved back automatically making her move back too but she wasn’t at my back again she was beside me but I still drew her back.

“Hello…?” He trailed off.

“Charlotte” she completed beaming at him and he smiled back.

What went wrong with all the ‘don’t talk or smile at strangers talk?’.

But was he really a stranger?

“Hello Charlotte”.

“Hello Mister” she greeted back.

Okay this was enough.

“What do you want Ashton?” I asked him.

He ruffled Charlotte’s hair and she chuckled before he stood up straight.

I drew her back again.

She was gonna hear from me immediately we left here. She was this free with a stranger?

Kim he is not a stranger.

“Hello Kim” he said smiling at me but I frowned at him.

I would have dropped a thousand dollar for this smile because he rarely smiled but that was before.

Before.

“What do you want?” I asked again.

I knew I was being rude but i wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries and for the love of Christ I couldn’t pretend like I was happy to see him unlike him because I wasn’t happy to see him. And I was aware of our child that was behind me.

How did he find me here for Christ sake. I was hoping we already left here and we wouldn’t have to see him.

“So this is your daughter?” He asked still looking at the little girl behind me.

The face his up here dude,I didn’t like the way he was starring at her.

“Yes. I am married” I blurted out and I immediately regretted it because of the little kid at my back.

But it was a white lie right?

Something flashed through his face before his expression went back to his neutral expression.

He was hard to read like an oujia board and that really s----d because you never can tell when he shows emotions.

Does he really shows emotions? For a moment there I saw something flash in his eyes but it was gone before I could place a name to it..

“Guess I was late then” he paused. “How old is she?”.

“She is four” I told him.

I didn’t have to lie anymore since he already caught the drift. I already had a husband so what’s the fuss about.

He should take the hint now.

“Four. So what’s the name of the guy?” He asked again.

“That’s none of your business” I seethed.

Easy Kim,way to show that you already got over him and you are married.

I shouldn’t have snapped.

“There is no ring on your finger” he pinpointed.

“I owe you no explanation” I deadpanned.

He shook his head. “I didn’t say you owe me one but I was just airing our my observations. I hope he treats you Right”.

I sighed.

Rich coming from him.

“Yes he does and he didn’t treat me like trash like you did”.

“I regretted that. I really did regret it” he said running his hands through his hair.

“That realization came pretty late” I said feeling myself getting angry than i was before. “I have to be on my way now,we have nothing else to talk about”. I said before carrying my baby.

I was aware of his eyes tracing us because Charlotte looked back occasionally but I didn’t.

I didn’t want to.

“Mommy,who is that Mister?” Charlotte asked immediately we got into the car.

“He is nobody” I told her before turning on the engine and driving my car out.

I didn’t wait for Tyler anymore because I just couldn’t. I didn’t expect things to turn out this way today.

I knew it wouldn’t take long before Ashton discovers that I wasn’t married yet because he wasn’t just going to believe me that easily right?

It was obvious i wasn’t married but a part of me hoped he bought the lie and leave us both alone.

What in the world does he mean by ‘guess I was late then?’

Kim forget it.

Just forget everything.

But I couldn’t and I have no idea why!

Of course,I personally think the dude would do something but it won’t be easy because Kim wants the child for herself alone ?
