FIVE YEARS LATER.

I cried when I first saw my baby,like the waterworks were just coming out and Tyler thought I was still feeling pain in my body.

No,not that. I was so happy that the tears couldn’t help but come out,she was beautiful,really beautiful and i made a promise there and then that there is nothing I won’t do for her as long as I had the power to do it.

Tyler have been so supportive along the years and sometimes I feel like all that happened to me happened to someone else because I didn’t feel like it was me it happened to.

Lucy might have come to pay us a visit every Christmas and my daughter saw her like a grandma because she was the only available grandma figure and Lucy liked it when she called her grandmother so there was no issue.

I ensured to send the priest a postcard monthly for five years now and she always replied by gushing about how beautiful my daughter was. Of course she was.

We lived pretty comfortable now,we moved out of the three bedroom apartment when Charlotte was just two. I kinda headed the company with Tyler and working with him have been great so far.

There were definitely down days but the up days where far better and he was so considerate.

He loved Charlotte like she was his own child and I was glad she has a father figure in her life,she have never asked me for a father and I hope she doesn’t because we are perfect this way.

Tyler shuffled between new York and the phillipines because he had to supervise both companies but I headed the one here whenever he was out of the country and that happens alot.

Everything was okay,I had my daughter,we had our own house and we were happy and contented.

Everything didn’t start of easy because I resumed work two months after I gave birth because Tyler wanted to leave the country again and there was no one to head it and that was my initial position. I worked really hard even though I knew it was a big position and I can honestly say I worked for everything I owned now. I didn’t depend on Tyler and milked him.

Speaking about Tyler,over the years we have gotten so close but I was quick to draw the like whenever things were going beyond the friendship line,the guy deserved someone ten times better than me,he was just too good for me and I wished him the best and moreover I knew he had s girlfriend so why should I lead him on? I wasn’t in a position to get into any relationship right now,I just wanted to take care of my daughter and myself.

We should continue to leave the life we have now,I want her to get a comfortable life and she shouldn’t be deficient in the love aspect too. I knew I had a busy job but that didn’t stop me from spending quality time with her daily,she was still a kid and she needed enough love,she shouldn’t just be spending all her time with the nannies at home or in school. That was why I took it upon myself to take her to school everyday and pick her after school but Tyler assists me to pick her in the afternoon and he ends up spoiling her with treats then she gets all grumpy if I pick her the next day unless I get her something too.

But she was just four and she already loved everything sweet.

I loved Charlotte no doubt and there is nothing I won’t do for her,all she has to do is ask. I loved her more than anything in the world.

Another good news is that, not up to a year after I got delivered of my baby,I met jimmy in a mall. It was crazy because we both jumped on each other,never in a thousand years would I have thought I would meet jimmy in the Philippines but the guy travelled alot. I got to know he has a fiancee and she was pregnant that Is why he came to get baby stuffs too. I was so happy for him and his fiancee and he set up a meeting for all of us.

I went with my daughter that day because it was a Saturday and we always spent our Saturdays together,wait.. we spend everyday together but Saturday was like our free day since she doesn’t have school and I don’t have work either. Jimmy’s fiancee, Marie was really beautiful and she kept on gushing about how she wanted a cute daughter like my daughter but the CT scan revealed that she was gonna have a boy child much to her dismay and she later ended it my jokingly promising me that her son would grow up to marry my daughter and we all laughed over the notion.

Jimmy was like a father figure too in her life since we saw him regularly after Marie put to bed. Charlotte and Marie’s son Andrea were best of friends so Andrea came to my house or I drop off Charlotte in Andrea’s house. They were really adorable.

So In summary,life have been pretty good even though it had it off and on days too. The on days were better than the off days and I had my daughter to get me through the off days. The tiniest smile on Charlotte’s face can lighten up a bad day, believe me.

“Mommy are you the one coming to pick me today?” Charlotte asked me. I could feel her arms on my shoulder, something she usually does whenever I was driving and she was in the backseat.

At first I thought it wasn’t a good idea because it felt like I wasn’t concentrating on driving but I have gotten used to her doing that and I get worried if she doesn’t do that.

“I think so baby,it depends on my schedule for today” I replied.

I looked at her face from the mirror,she looked confused.

“Schedule? What’s that?” She asked before twirling my hair in her small hand and I smiled softly. She was curious like a cat and she always wants to know the meaning of every word that you use that she finds foreign.

“Schedule is like the things I have planned for the day. Like the duty I have to perform that day. You know mommy attends meetings right?” I asked and she nodded.

“Yes,mommy also uses the big computer thing then she reads from it” she said chuckling like the idea was amusing her.

That’s her own definition of projector.

She was silent for a while,still twirling my hair in her hands. Something she always does,even after telling her to stop it hundreds of times she still can’t stop twirling my hair in her hands.

“Mommy”

“Yes baby”.

“Can uncle tee come and pick me today since you don’t know your ….” She paused and I laughed.

She have already forgotten the word ‘schedule’.

She called Tyler uncle tee and she definitely wanted her to pick her up because she is so sure of a treat.

“Baby,uncle tee might be busy with work too” I told her. This month was a busy month for the company and I highly doubt if Tyler would be able to squeeze in time to pick her up from school. I could squeeze in time but I wasn’t sure about Tyler.

“He isn’t busy mommy” she said drawling the last word.

“Why did you say so?”

“He promised to pick me up but he said I should ask you first. He told me that yesterday when he played dress up with me” she explained.

I sighed, Tyler and her were like a secret team. You don’t know when they have their weird discussions and she never tells me about it even though I promise to get her more toys she wouldn’t still tell me.

“What exactly did you and uncle tee talk about!” I asked and she chuckled again.

“It’s a secret mommy”.

“Really?” I asked raising an eyebrow.

“Yes,I already promised him and I even promised with my pinky finger,I can’t break the promise. Right mommy?”

I nodded “right”.

Pinky fingers promises were sacred to her since she knew how to pronounce her name. If you promised her something with the Pinky finger,she was gonna guilt trip you into getting it for her.

“Mommy can he pick me up today?” She asked again.

“Of course,if he have the time” I told her.

“Thank you Mommy,I loved you very very much” she squealed.

“I loved you more” I said before driving into her school parking lot.

“We are at your school already”. I told her after opening her side door and handling over her stuffs to one of the staffs. I bent over to her level “be a good girl Char” I told her before kissing her.

“Okay mommy” she said before pecking my two cheeks.

I watched as the lady led her into the school compound.

? Ashton’s p.o.v?

“For Christ sake mom. I can’t babysit,what the f--k were you thinking. I don’t do well with babies” I snapped at her.

“You don’t do well with adults either.” She retorted.

“Mom what exactly is your problem?” I asked her.

“You,just you. You never obey whatever instruction is given to you. Your sister wants you to help her stay with Diego until she gets back from the hospital and you can’t just do that?” She asked looking at me like I was full of shit.

I sighed “mom you should do that,what are you here for. Look I have tons of work to do”.

“Tons of work indeed,you have tons of work to do and you are here, sitting at home and doing nothing”.

“I am not doing nothing. I was about to have a nap when you barged in. I needed a break from work and I definitely didn’t want to spend it babysitting Diego. She has a nanny for f--k sake” I complained.

I can’t babysit my sister’s son,it is just too much. I might end of putting the kid into a freezer. Crap, I am not good with kids,I don’t even know what babysitting means. To save the little man and I from danger I wouldn’t want to babysit. She has a husband for Christ’s sake

“Of course she does but I still want you to be with the child. He is your nephew for Christ’s sake and you are his uncle. The longest time you have been with the poor boy Is about ten minutes,you spend the rest hours freaking out over a kid”. She complained.

Not my fault,I couldn’t stand the kid. He was weird and the type of games he plays freak me out,he was weird like his father.

If I knew my mom was gonna come here and guilt trip me into babysitting a kid this early morning,I would have just gone to work instead. I decided to take a week off and do something for me and then I get hooked with a babysitting job.

How old am I?

Imagine if the press or tabloids get holds of that information. I can’t babysit Diego.

“Where did Emily go to?” I asked,she can’t just leave me alone with her weird son right?

“She went to the hospital with her husband” she replied curtly.

“For?”

“They went for the CT scan of the baby in her stomach” she said and my eyes widened.

Kill me please.

“Emily is having another child?” I asked.

“Yes, isn’t that great news. Don’t tell her I told you,she wanted to surprise you by inviting you to the baby shower but I know you are never gonna attend it because you have gotten worst with everything over the years”. She remarked drily.

“I can’t freaking babysit Diego mom” I told her.

“Why? The little boy Is your nephew. Your elder sister’s child. You just have to pick him from school and stay with him till evening”.

“The kid is f-----g weird”. I snapped.

“Every kid is weird to you even adults are weird to you. What are you Ashton? Get me a cup of coffee and get a shower. We are leaving”

“Mom…”

“Ashton now.” She deadpanned.

? Tyler’s p.o.v ?

“Kimberly and I would be going to the states in a week’s time. We coolval stories got a partnership deal from one of the best companies there” I announced to the shareholders and the senior staffs present.

We were currently in the board meeting.

“That is a great news,we have been waiting for this offer for years.” Sebastian said.

“Yes,we are happy. After many years of trying to secure a contract we were given more than a contract we were offered a partnership deal” another woman added.

“You have no idea how happy I am. It was our hardwork that speaked for us. Let’s don’t relent. Let’s continue this way” I assured them.

“We should have a congratulatory dinner party” leo Yuan said with her think Chinese accent. “I know of a very good kimshi restaurant in town” she said again and they all nodded.

Leo Yuan thinks of nothing except food and we all love food and this was good news. We have been expecting this for long now.

? Kim’s p.o.v?

Tyler couldn’t have said we were going to the states. I haven’t been there in five years and I wasn’t planning on going there now either. I couldn’t go now when I have a daughter and everything was good with us. But he have been waiting for this particular deal too even though I don’t know the company. They are many good companies in the states.

I knew going back there was inevitable from the start but I wasn’t ready now. Security wasn’t an issue this time because I had well armed security team but I didn’t want to go back to where everything have started just yet. I was trying to replace the bad memories with good one,how was I going to back there just yet.

“Kim?” Someone called and I looked up to see Tyler sitting on my table. I didn’t even notice home walk in. “You okay?” He asked again.

“Yes,you want something?” I asked him.

“No. Just wanted to check on you. You have been acting really weird since this morning,are you sure you are okay?” He asked again.

“Tyler,do we really need to go back to the states. We can send someone” I suggested.

He sighed “I know this is what is making you brood but Kim you aren’t the same person again. You are more bolder, intelligent and rich and you are very important too,no one can step on you like you are trash again so you have to show the world that and forget whatever happened there. We won’t be there for long,we just have to finalize the deal”. He assured me.

I knew I was all that and honestly no one can trample on me any longer. I had my own territory and I was a changed person not the nice,so trusting former Kim. I was a different person but my fears were far from that,what if I met Ashton? New York was big but there is still a probability and the deal doesn’t look like a simple one there would be press coverage and I was scared for my daughter. No one could take her away from me. What if Ashton meets her and knows she is his daughter? Charlotte is my everything and I can’t survive if they take her from me.

“Kim?” Tyler called tapping my shoulder. “You zoned out again. I am here for you and no one would hurt you again. I just need you to be there for me,for the company”. He pleaded.

This guy have always been there for me,I couldn’t just bail on him now.

“How many months are we spending there?” I asked him and he smiled immediately,he was glad but I wasn’t but I still forced a smile.

“Three to five months and who knows you might just want to stay there. We can stay there,we have been in phillipines for long already. I miss new York” he told me.

I missed new york too but going there now didn’t seem like a good choice and I had no choice right now.

This wasn’t gonna be easy but there would definitely see a new me.
