“Mom you don’t need to go there today. You can send one of the workers there”. Tyler told his mom.

She shook her head “no son,it have been a while I visited the farm and I don’t trust the words of the workers. They can’t be trusted you know”.

“But you pay them. You are old already,you can’t keep doing this job”. He persisted and his mom frowned immediately.

“Old? What’s wrong with the job I am doing? It’s not like I am the one harvesting the produce myself I just need to be there to supervise them,this is harvesting period and I can’t risk anything now”.

“Mom” the guy whined. “look,the weather isn’t looking so good,rain is about to fall. You can’t go out in this condition”.

“I would take my coat and would you stop behaving like I am a toddler instead focus on yourself you have a flight to catch and you are here whining”. She scolded.

“My flight is still 2pm”. He corrected.

“And what time is this?” She asked gesturing to the clock.

“Almost 1 noon”.

“Great,worry about yourself and leave me alone. I packed fruits for you in a disposable bag,you can share it with your personal assistant on the plane” she paused “he is a nice guy and I like him”.

“Who do you not like mom? I would have been gone before you get back since you insist on going to the farm”.

“Till when then?”

“Mom! I told you that yesterday and you are still asking again”.

She frowned again making her wrinkles more visible “the lady is already old,you can’t blame her. The only thing I remember you telling me is that you need to leave the country for a business trip I can’t really recall the rest”. She explained.

“Mom don’t you think you should continue using your drugs? You can’t really recall much things this days” the guy said worriedly.

“I am not sick” she snapped “old age isn’t a sickness and it is normal to forget things at times,not like you have a good memory either”.

“I took it from you”.

“Probably and I don’t nag you around to take cursed drugs”.

“That’s because I an still young”. He argued.

“So I am the old one here. Tyler you are giving me headaches with your constant nags. I am the mother here and you are the son remember that so don’t go on mother mood when you are with me, when are you gonna get back?”. She asked.

“Next month” he replied.

“That’s a long time”.

“I know Mom,but this is really important to me”.

“Right,I wish you all the best son. Do your best and make me happy like you have always been doing”. She encouraged.

“Take care of yourself mom, sleep and eat well. Remember you are already….” He trailed off when he saw the look on her face. “Just eat and sleep well mom and try not to go to the farm everyday” he grinned at her.

“Come and give me a hug son”.

“Talking about time mom”. He whined.

“You should make a ridge not just plant the seeds on any watered land” Lucy instructed the workers.

She got to the farm few hours ago and to say she was disappointed was an understatement. She might be an old woman but she still knows how to calculate her input. The farm was in a good shape fine but they didn’t plant the seeds with experience and now the crops where growing against each other competing for light and survival.

She knew she was gonna get more loss than profit in this year’s harvest and she was not happy about it because she pays the workers weekly so she was expecting them to work the money they were receiving on her farm. That’s the least they could do for her and they still couldn’t do that. Her son might be wealthy now but she still loved farming because that was the job her and her late husband did to train all their children and they were doing fine now. The farm was dear to her and she always made sure she got a double amount of the salary she pays her workers but this year might just be different.

After hours of coordinating them and joining them to do some of the work she eventually grew tired. She was about to enter her car when one of the workers called her again.

“Not today” she muttered under her breath rubbing her temple tiredly.

She really needed rest and she felt bad for always neglecting her son’s warning to rest and leave the farm alone. She couldn’t leave the farm alone, not for all the money in the world.

“What is it? Is there another problem?” She asked.

The guy nodded his head,he was panicking and that only grew her curiosity.

“What’s it?” She asked again.

“I didn’t do anything,I swear I didn’t do anything. I just saw…” He trailed off.

Didn’t do what?

“What are you talking about?” She asked “you didn’t do what? Is there a problem? Where is the farm manager” she asked questions after questions.

“He already retired home” the worker replied.

Talking about irresponsible leaders,she was yet to retire home and he already left for home waiting for his salary by the weekend. She was going to surprise him this week so she thought.

“What’s the matter then?”. She asked again because the man in front of her was still panicking. Whatever had happened wouldn’t be a good one.

“Ma’am can you please follow me?” He asked rhetorically.

“Let’s go” she said before gesturing for her driver to go with them. She was old and she wouldn’t want to risk anything that can take her life.

They walked further and they have long passed where her farm stopped,but they where still walking. She was beginning to get afraid but she didn’t show it because she knows that the lanky looking man wouldn’t want to hurt her and her driver more like bouncer could make him choke with just one punch but she was still worried.

“Where are you taking me too?” She asked after few more minutes. What on Earth do the lanky guy come to find beside a cliff,she knows the cliff was here but she never really walked to this side of the land because the cliff was high and some reckless guys must have been injured from the rough plays they had here. So she heard.

The guy was still walking and they followed him until he stopped,they all stopped.

She gasped when she saw what he pointed at “what is this?” She screeched.

“I swear I didn’t do anything. I wanted to release myself so I walked here because this is where most of us past our waste and….and_ I saw this lady. I swear I didn’t do anything to her”. He explained but Lucy wasn’t listening to what he was saying.

She was looking at the passed out lady with blood on her body. Was she dead? It didn’t look like she was breathing. Since her close to forty years experience on the farm,she haven’t seen a case like this. Why would they injure someone and throw her in this area.

She was scared,like really scared. What if the captors were still lurking around? She didn’t know how far the driver can fight with people carrying weapons. She couldn’t risk that but she was also scared for the lady in question who looked rather lifeless now. What the hell happened in this place?

“Should I call the police?” Her driver asked.

The police wasn’t a bad option but it wasn’t a good one either. A lifeless person was found few plots away from her farm,the police could twist the issue up and the time they use in calling the police would amount to nothing because they haven’t saved the lady in question. What if she wasn’t dead yet? They could still help her right? Without involving the police. But what if she already died?

“No we aren’t calling the police” she replied

“We aren’t? What are we going to do then. We can’t just leave her here right?”. The worker asked.

“Let’s help her to my car”.

“Ma’am that’s risky. What if she is already dead? I don’t think this is a good idea. We shouldn’t involve ourselves in issues like this, let’s call the sheriff” the driver suggested.

“I believe she isn’t dead yet and she deserves our help. We can’t keep on wasting time here,we need to help her. C’mon help him carry her” she instructed the lanky guy and they bent down to carry the lady.

“Ma’am this isn’t a good idea” the guy muttered still bending down.

“I don’t think it is too. She looks lifeless to me” the worker attested.

Lucy took a deep breath,she loved helping people and this lady in question looks like she needs help because she is in a good state. She might be dead but what if she was still alive. They can’t just deny her another shot to life because of their fears.

“I think she is still alive and she deserves our help” Lucy said sternly with no room for argument.

She hoped she didn’t regret this and the lady was still alive.

“I pray she didn’t die already” she said under her breath.

“Do you think she would make it?” Lucy asked the doctor immediately he came out of the room.

She had brought the lady to her house refusing to take her to the hospital because they were still going to ask questions. She opted for her family doctor and he was at her house few minutes after. He said he needed to remove the bullet and the lady was shot. That doesn’t sound good. So she left him to do the work and she prayed silently that nothing had happened to the lady.

“We removed the bullet already,it was lurking between her shoulder and her neck bone”.

“That doesn’t sound good” she said

“Yes,pretty bloody. But we are thankful it wasn’t anywhere else because the lady happens to be carrying a child”. The doctor said again.

“A child? Poor child. How is the baby or did she loose the baby already?” She asked flinching at the latter thought.

“Thankfully she didn’t because we got a heartbeat from the child and to say the least,it was surprising because the lady passed out and the heart of the child was still beating”.

“That’s a good news then. Do you think she would survive this?” She asked again.

“There is a high probability but she really lost of a lot of blood which isn’t a good thing in her Condition. We are working on that but right now she haven’t woken up yet but she is pretty much alive we just have to hope she wakes up soon because we placed her on anesthetics” the doctor explained.

“Thank you doctor. Thank you so much”

“We are trying our best ma’am. But if I may ask where do you see the lady?” He asked.

Then she sighed before telling him the whole story. She wasn’t a murderer neither were her workers. She didn’t regret saving the lady because there was a high probability of her not dying and she just saved a little child too. Even though the doctor told her that the actions she took were pretty risky she couldn’t miss the tone of admiration in his voice when he praised her for being bold. That was all life was about.

It have been three days since she helped the lady,it have been three days of the doctor and two nurses lurking around her house to check the lady but the lady haven’t woken up yet. It have been three days of her praying silently and she was glad that none of her three children were around during all this because they wouldn’t be happy with her for the step she took.

The doctor and the two nurses just left like an hour ago promising to come back in the evening like they have always been doing. She peeped into the room that the lady was kept and everything was pretty much the same except from the beeping of the system beside her there was no sound again. She was breathing fine but she haven’t opened her eyes yet,she closed the door after observing her for few minutes.

“I am fine” she said over the phone.

Her last child Tyler was on the phone and he was pretty much the child of the house because he haven’t grown up yet,he was in his late twenties but he still behaved like a child. He dotted on his mom like she was his wife and she liked it like that.

“Here is warmer than NYC and it’s like I just wasted my time in packing coats because I definitely didn’t need one.” He explained to her and she just nodded like he could see her right now.

“Did you eat already?” She asked him.

“Yes I already ate. India have pretty good food even though I don’t know the name of any of them and they take sweets alot. What about you did you already eat?”

“Yes I already ate” she lied because she haven’t eaten anything today,she was worried about the lady in the room and her baby.

“What did you eat. I hope you didn’t take more nuts because I know you sneak them in and take them whenever I am out of the country” he teased.

She did that before but she already stopped because it was only deteriorating her health. She already stopped whatever the doctor said she shouldn’t take anymore.

“I ate bread without yeast and I took my lemon tea” she lied again.

“That’s pretty light. You can tell the maid to prepare lunch already”.

“I already told her Tyler. Enough of me, let’s talk about you,how is the business you went over there to take care of?”

“Pretty good and quite interesting” he said and then he went on to explain everything single thing that had happened since he got to India. His mom found it amusing because Tyler was her favorite child and she just loved him too much.

“Ma’am,the lady already woke up” one of the workers informed Lucy and she stood up from her sitting position immediately.

She followed the worker to the room and they entered to see the lady looking around the room cautiously. She was probably confused on where she was. She was still thin, pale and she wasn’t looking so good.

When her eyes finally fell on the two figures in the room. A young woman and an old woman she asked the question she have been wanting to ask.

“Where am I?”
